Minimus - You are probably talking about big decisions in life, but I have to say that after being out for 11 years, I am still shocked at how many little things I do that still produce pangs of guilt. I bought a pair of camouflage pants for the first time and felt as if I was about to commit an evil act of war. I joined the YMCA two days ago and wanted to shout it out to everyone that I had the audacity to join the Y, but then I realize nobody could give a rats ass

What did you regrettably not do because you were a Jehovah's Witness ?
by minimus injehovah's witnesses cannot do a lot of things.
i remember pioneers having to quit their jobs because they could not work in a convenience store and sell cigarettes.
i know of a young man who was offered a scholarship to any college or university if he wanted to go to because of his football abilities.

Why do trolls do what they do?
by Londo111 ini truly don't understand the mindset of a troll.
i know it's been explained, but i still don't get it.
it is hard to distinguish between a troll and a jw apologist at times because the reactions are very similar.

They must be so desperate for any kind of connection with people. It is really sad to think of any member of society so in need of just a little human attention (even if it is negative)

Cooking With Cast Iron
by Simon ini can't even remember what got me interested in pans, probably wanting to try cooking more and watching some cooking videos on youtube, but i kind of started wanting to get a cast-iron skillet specifically so started reading up on them.
hey, if you're going to spend $50 on something you need to study them and create a comparison spreadsheet ... right?.
not only did cast-iron look great for cooking but there are some studies that show risks to aluminium / teflon cookware ... not that the wts was "right" about aluminium, but teflon can give off carcinogenic chemicals if overheated (so what if it chips off into your food?).

I have an obsession with cast iron pans. The FINEX brand is my absolute favorite.....I can find this brand sometimes at TJ Maxx and/or Marshalls for a good price.
My last move, I had to give up cooking on gas and had to switch to an electric stove....... I hate it. I cannot get the pans the correct temperature ever. Does anyone else have this problem with cast iron and an electric stove?

Living with Your Parents Well Into Adulthood the Norm?
by Sorry ini don't want to seem like a jerk.
i know full well economic times are not the greatest.
there's no shame in struggling and staying with your family until you're back on your feet.

Maybe things have changed a lot in the last 35 years, but when I graduated from HS I would have loved to move out of my parents home, but that was not a choice I had. It also had absolutely nothing to do with finances either. As a "female" I was required to stay home and pioneer until I married a spiritual man that my parents approved of. Most of my JW girlfriends were in the exact same boat.....And for some crazy reason we just blindly obeyed (cause that's what you do)
It could be that the 3 woman mentioned in the original OP are not allowed to leave home until they find a spiritual husband.

Thanks for posting this darkspilver
Slightly off topic.....
My daughter Lexi lives on Fiji and almost lost her life in that cyclone last March. It was the strongest cyclone to make landfall in the South Pacific and it barely made the news here in the US. She gets a real kick out of the witnesses always on the beach with their carts and loves that kingdom halls have windows there - something she never saw here in Colorado.

How about prayers being used as a talk?
by NikL inanother thread on here made me think of it.. its a personal peeve of mine.. you bow your head in prayer and the brother says thinks like thank you for the lessons we learned today like bla bla bla and for that wonderful point about yadda yadda yadda.
jehovah we know that etc etc etc therefore we must...well you get the gist.and on and on it goes.
absolutely drives me mad..

Growing up in the rurals, Thursday nights were the absolute worst. We had already been in school all day. Did chores, got prettied up, squeezed into the family car with two parents and five siblings and then had to drive 30 miles on country roads. The meeting did not end until 10 PM, but 9 times out of 10, the brothers would go way overtime because what they had to say was so very important. The final prayer would get started by one of my long winded foreign speaking Ukrainian uncles and the majority in the audience just wanted death........

So, how did the 'beard article' go over yesterday at your congregation?
by neat blue dog inat mine the conductor was somewhat awkward and minimal and there were nervous chuckles from the audience.
two people, including an elder, gave reasonable comments that it's okay as long as it's not extreme styles, etc.
but then another one of the elders commented that nothing has changed and they still aren't proper locally.

Doctor Who...One dumbo of an elder in our congregation said how it's not socially accepted in our area
What stupid reasoning, Then I guess the JW men in my town should all start sportin' the man bun along with a beard since this is the norm and what is socially accepted and somewhat expected.

Sam Harris on Trump - The Most Powerful Clown
by cofty inharris is at his incisive best in his latest podcast.. he likens the situation to being on an aeroplane where the pilot has died and somebody with no experience of flying has grabbed the controls.
we should all be committed to his success.
prize for the best line goes to - "caligula with a iphone".. even if you love trump and despise harris you should appreciate his clarity.. waking up with sam harris....
