as far as doctrine goes, what finally convinced you that this isn't the truth?
Of course, I had doubts like so many others and those doubts became firm convictions that the WTS was not God's sole channel. But I had dabbled with pretending to believe and still go to meetings ( for the sake of keeping up appearances). I think the one that sent me over the edge was finding out that they teach that Jesus is NOT the mediator for all of mankind. All while I was investigating their history on my own, I continued studying the Bible and reading the book of Romans in a different bible, really made an impact on me. ANY organization that teaches that a relationship with God or Jesus must come through an 'organization' as an intervener is clearly teaching falsehood.
have posted this on the other thread but just making this one as well:
i need to let you know that dad passed away this morning at 8am.
he fought so hard but in the end they could not get his blood pressure to rise and he died of heart failure.
My deepest condolences. I am very sorry for your loss.
they mean the leadership.
all of this is code for: one who is not ready to really study and accept how the leadership of jehovah's witnesses use the bible to their own self serving means.
but to be fair, jw's teach that most all of these characters refer to the leadership of jehovah's witnesses, the governing body.
Everytime I think I know all there is to know about this sham of a cult, I read things like this:
The one I refer to the most is as an answer to one of the questions on a Gilead test, Elijah prophetically pointed to Judge Rutherford, Elisha pointed to N H Knorr. That is my favorite, that is when I realized I was mislead. But to be fair, JW's teach that most all of these characters refer to the leadership of Jehovah's Witnesses, the Governing Body. (GB)
and this:
As the video brought out, each student gets a loaded 3 ring binder with the schedules, tests, and homework. Toward the end of the class, there is a "shredding" party that would make Nixon proud. Everyone has to turn in their binders, it is loaded into carts and taken into the Patterson basement, next to a garage, where we gleefully shred every bit of the schedule, and all of the tests. YHWH knows they don't want that crap getting out.
Wow. Just wow. I could fill several books with the volumes of information that I did not know PRIOR to joining this group or as part of the rank and file. Yes, they truly must save these nuttier teachings for those who have 'excelled in maturity' = become living drones. I never understood the concept of the WTS heirarchy giving only certain ones access to 'special knowledge' - ie, pioneer school, MTS, Gilead training. I mean if its ALL truth and scripturally based, why not teach it during the book study or better yet, the public talks. What parts of the bible are for some special ones, but not for others? Where is the precept in the Bible for this type of structuring of information or who gets special access to this special knowledge?
I can't imagine how some R & F would react to knowing these things, on the other hand I can imagine how some other witness would, probably say something like... " Oh joyous day, look how the SLAVE has provided this wonderful spiritual food for us!"
ATJ...Thank you so much for sharing this information and this is also going into my favorites. I will need these kinds of facts since I'm seriously contemplating disassociating myself from this group. This fade is not working and I cannot continue to look people in the eye having them think I believe all of the crap the WTS teaches or questioning why I no longer attend meetings. Your Africa experience is really enlightening also; I wholeheartedly agree that the only ones that buy into this group as adults ( not born ins) are ones that lack access to this kind of information.
my cousin passed away last week from cancer at the age of 49. the cancer spread so fast it took our family by surpise.
we figured she had a couple of years instead of months.
she left 4 children(3 were baptised and 1 was disfellowshipped a couple of years ago).
Coincidence stated:
good lord ... how the hell did we join this shit of a religion :(
Exactly what I was thinking. Before being baptized, I had a strong revulsion to the shunning policy, but got dunked anyway thinking that eventually I would see the benefit of this crazy behavior.... SAD
just curious, what percentage of people here actually left the jw org because of this site or similar sites?
do these sites really help people to get out?
yes, I was still in but had doubts when I came across this site this past March. Let me say that I no longer doubt, but I KNOW its not 'the truth'.
OMG.. is this even a question?
Oreos! Hands down! The only reason Hydrox even exists is for those trying to save a few coins on their cookie purchases.
part 3 of our series "question jehovah's witnesses," questioning jws ability to question.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnqq2taqgio.
.
Great work V! Thanks so much for your efforts!
i don't come by here very often any more (trying to wean myself away from this board in anticipation of when we cannot ever post any more.
in the last couple of years, and leaving this mess in jesus' hands, things have not only begun to emerge as "fixable", but have most definetely been fixed at long last.
i was invited to the youngest grandchild's (of this son) sweet 16 birthday party last summer and i teared up when i realized that this was the first birthday party of all three of these grandchildren that i had attended.. we have been invited to thanksgiving dinner ( for the fourth year) with our whole family and that of my dil's family (she is one of seven) and to spend a few days at christmas at another son's home.
Wouldn't it be great if this post can be forwarded around like those JW emails? This post warmed my heart. THANK you so much for posted your success and newfound peace and family happiness. Despite their claims, the holidays are lonely time for so many witnesses. It's good to hear from someone who has been able to mend family relationships. This is great inspiration for all those who had been trapped and isolated by the WTS.
Take care and Happy Holidays!
Edited to add: One of the most fear inspired lies the WTS instills in its followers, is if they leave the Watchtower organization, then they leave God. I believe this is one of the most powerful absurdities that manages to keep JWs in, afraid to question what they are taught, even though there are so many holes in their ever-changing doctrines. Your post is a testament to the real power of God and Jesus in the lives of believers!
