excommunication/disfellowshipping is pagan practice!--by request!
request from researcher: hi atlantis or n. or whoever!
one of my friends on the board said that she downloaded the 1947 awake pdf that "bereanbiblestudent and invetigator 74" posted, and in the first issue on page 26, it said that excommunication or disfellowshipping was a pagan practice.
HOOOOLLLLLLYYYYYYY SHIIIIIIIII
that is insane
couldn't help but post this recent strip.. doesn't it sound familiar?
the first caption should read: "through considerable prayer and discussion, the gb has decided to provide web cams for congregation elders to keep a loving watch over you.
" lol.
good one hon...
Typical JW... clueless
i'm a new member as i've not completely left the org yet and being a "good lil jw" would never have looked at a site like this previously!
there is one elder in the cong who calls around every so often to "chat" as i only stopped attending meeting a couple of months ago.
i've spoken to him about certain subjects - eg the un thing and the misuse of quotes - but he has no useful answers for me.
There are some very good points made thus far. You don't want to give the elder any ammo, even if he appears to be sincerely caring. If you wish to simply fade, it is best to be as low key as possible.
Welcome to the site! Can't help but agree with what others have said... and my hubby too.... don't draw attention to yourself if you don't want to get the big D and F.
Glad you're here.
ok.... are you a glutton for punishment?
you'll love this "encouraging email"..... .
i just received this experience from a friend, how loving a father jehovah is!!!
don't know what to say other than
my mom prayed for 20 years to move back to where her family was... 20 years it took. She still to this day believes God finally answered her prayer.
one time, a elder said like "heavenly father jehovah, thank you for the meetings.
i pray thru jesus name amen" i was so stunned it was a very short prayer.
.
I can't tell you the shortest but the longest was 12.5 minutes, I timed it...it was dreadful.
I know those ones, at conventions especially. They would ask one of the oldest, probably anointed, brothers to do the prayer. They were extremely heartfelt, but extremely long. But remember, because he was of the anointed, I am sure God listened to his prayer above any others that weekend... and since we were all there to hear it, it was like we were talking to God. double So much for going into a private place to pray... when you can be awed and admired my thousands.
Short prayers didn't happen... they were always too long for me.
a non-jw friend in a southern state has close ties to a jw with a late teen-aged son.
this son is pioneering during late hours, meaning 11 pm to 2 am.
i'm told his car group calls on, among others, convenience store workers where they apparently have much idle time on their hands.
I think this is common practice. Now I heard of people driving long distances, and I mean long distances to go on vacation or what not and count every second as they would stop at gas stations and stores etc.
When I was a young JW, we would drive to our street territory and stop in at the gas stations along the way. We normally headed out the door around 5am. I was such a zealous teen... never did that as an adult. LOL
here is the complete volume of the awake for 1947 in pdf.
about 45 mb.
bookmarks are updated with the newly scanned pages.
thanks!
didn't have much money...everyone wanted to come, so i reluctantly invited many.
we had lots of good food and nice bottles of wine, white and red.
so it cost a bit to set up....my soon to be wife said: "don't worry, your a pioneer, i'm sure the brothers will be generous with their gifts!
After the wedding I found most envelopes were empty or had $100 dollars from a family of 5 working people who came??!! I ended up getting afew hundred dollars from 120 people.
That is my wedding all over again. Hubby and I couldn't have a huge wedding, but we still spent WAY too much as it was. We felt obligated to invite ones from his congregation, being that they were friends of the family for years. Needless to say, we got CRAP! And I mean CRAP. Hardly anyone gave money, and if they did it was a $20.... and yes, I know what you mean when it's a large family and they give you a small, and I mean small gift. Many, many gifts were horribly tacky, like they had been picked up at a thrift shop or dollar store, I am not kidding. Rooster napkin rings??? come on!!!! Needless to say, we gave away most of the stuff or just tossed it. It was extremely sad and pathetic. One brother, a personal friend of mine for years actually showed up at my wedding and gave me the excuse he left my gift in the cab. But then again this is the same guy who shows up at house parties and brings “WinK” (a low quality soda) and asks “where’s the beer” (that actually happened). Needless to say we have lost touch.
Crapy gift givers. My non-jw relatives are incredibly generous and put the JWs to shame... its embarrassing.
those grand boasting sessions have begun, some of them starting with children still in school (and some when they needed to be at school to take final exams).
and yet they insist on people skipping school (and work) to be at all three days of these wastefests.. now, why might there be reason to go?
curiosity is one, and that is the kind of curiosity that often leads to trouble.
poor nursing mothers had to nurse in the bathroom (YUCK!)
I experienced this and it is as disgusting as it sounds. Chairs directly in front of stalls where woman, and not always mothers, came in and did their business while you are feeding your infant. My son nursed a lot and took a long time... so I was in that washroom most of the convention.. Ever since then I have raised the issue with the brothers/elders. So, anyone know what it is like in Kitchener this year??? Probably the same old 'crap'.
