That was stinkin' hilarious!
When told from that perspective, it makes it seem rediculous that Jesus would have come in 1919 and approved the "watchtower bible and tract society".
ok, that's shameless, but it's the premise of this overdub i did of a jesus movie.
i'm somewhat partial i know, but i think its pretty funny and very telling.

has anyone else heard tell of interviewees in convention parts being told what to say?
the way i've heard it is you're contacted to be interviewed in a convention talk because you've had a great experience in some form or other and they need you to boast about it.
so, you meet with the brother handling the assignment and you go through your experience with him (boast about it).
I was telling my wife last night about an experience I heard at a DC about a girl who was in her last year of studies to become a doctor (and get her PHD). She explained how she felt it was important to abandon her studies to pursue full time service and get a mediocre job.
To my dismay, everyone clapped! How could someone be so stupid!
I have also heard experiences where other friends of mine left college to pursue "spriritual goals". I knew, however, that the truth was that they didn't leave by choice, but had failed 1st or 2nd year. Does that not warm your heart?

Lisa, that's a funny experience!
I too had a similar experience. I was in my teens and the bro asked me to state how I was dealing with the pressures of being a JW at school. The truth was that I had no pressures, and I regularly participated in extracurricular activities. So I said that once when I was in elementary school (grade 4 or 5) the teacher and kids saved some halloween cookies for me since I didn't go to the school party. I said "no thanks." That was it. But the bro wanted me to make it sound like it was recent. So I did.
Some of my friends came up to me afterwards and asked if my high school still had halloween parties, and I said of course not. I had to admit that it was a very old story. It was kind of embarrasing, but in my defense I told everyone who asked the truth(tm).

our dc isn't for another couple of months.....(i have agreed to two days at the pool only).
i was reviewing the 2006 resolutions (family discussion) in regards to number 5 & 6. http://www.sendspace.com/file/uy054k.
and was hopeful that someone who has attended could scan them in or post them in this thread.. thanks .
I don't get it. What was the point of resolutions?
Aren't they just a rehash of doctrines that were supposedly accepted when a JW was baptised?
And where do they get these resolutions from? Who comes up with them?
i haven't been here long...so is it just me or are the long standing jwd members noticing an influx of newbies?
to me it seems they are on the rise!
newbies stand up on this thread, be counted -- and welcomed!
The WTS is always interested in numbers and statistics. They wish to know how many active ex-jws there are on this board so they can include it in their year end report (under negative growth).
hi people,,,what i mean about personal decision is that, if someone wants to believe what they really want, what will the problem be, so why do some people have to question their beliefs and their type of life.
wouldn't it be better if we try to respect everyones life, no meter how they do it.
hope that you all get my point...
well i see so everybody its against something, so u still dt accept what i meant by personal decission,so if someone is still in the truth why do u for example say to them oh thats rong etc etc,,,,,
Purealb, I think you are entirely missing the point of every post in this thread!
It is because JWs are still in the "truth" that they will always treat everyone outside as "worldly" or "apostate", therefore shunning them entirely.
Most non-JWs don't care what you believe in. It's your personal choice. But when beliefs harm relationships and families, that's when the line must be drawn, regardless of your religion or background.
Do you really believe your own words? Would you follow the society's council to "shun" a family member if he/she becomes disfellowshipped? Do you still go out in the ministry because you need to convince others that their religion is wrong and that if they don't change they will be destroyed in armageddon?
The reality is, my friend, that you cannot, and they society will NOT allow you to, let people have their own opinions and accept them if they are contrary to the WTS.
What more can be said?
i wouldn't be suprised if the society bans jws from surfing on youtube in the near future.
isn't it a very dangerous place for witnesses?
if you type in "jehovah's witnesses" or "watchtower", you are immediately flooded with "apostate" videos.

Isn't it a very dangerous place for witnesses? If you type in "Jehovah's witnesses" or "watchtower", you are immediately flooded with "apostate" videos. Sure, there are a few videos that support JWs, but you need to filter through the "bad" stuff first. Even viewing one or two videos could be enough to plan a seed of doubt deeply within that would eventually cause the witness to start waking up.
The GB must be aware of this and must be very afraid that many will "just wake up" upon visiting youtube.
What's worse, how about those JWs that actually posts comments on these apostate videos attempting to defend the "truth"(tm)?
Could the GB outright ban YouTube? Could YouTube sue the WT for defamation if this happens?
Curious.
the one that got me recently is the matter of elders being removed if they encourage college education in the cong.
where in the scriptures?
any others that spring to mind?
My favourite is the 2 year "forgiveness" rule.
If you committed a sin (up until a few years ago this also included adultery or fornication), but no one found out about it, but your exemplary behaviour over the past 2 years has demonstrated that Jehovah's continues to bless you, then you are "forgiven" and neither reproved or removed from congregational responsibilities.

I'm not sure where this is going either.
If this is truly your belief, then you are indeed a unique JW. The GB has relentlessly put up an effort to build walls around JWs in order to separate them from the rest of 'the world.' And by doing so, they have created labels for those people, including "wordly", "apostate", "unbeliever", "opposer", "satan's follower", etc. Don't you think this does much harm in personal and family relationships?
If the GB eliminated this, along with a few other harmful doctrines, then I would have no problems with them. We could all just "get along" fine.
i opened another thread with a similar title and thought it was going to be a discussion about belief in god but it wasn't.
so i started my own.. although i'm not sure of much at the moment (since i had my beliefs whipped out from under me like the floor under my feet) i feel fairly certain about one thing.
there is evidence of intelligent design and beauty in the universe and i don't logically think this is accidental.
Primatedave,
A very funny link, indeed! I needed a laugh! I found about as much "science" there as the average Awake! magazine only not as well written. Here is a good link that about sums it up: Straw Man Fallacy.
And this is a perfect example of the "straw man fallacy." I did say that everyone is entitled to their opinion. I also said that the site was a wealth of information, not scientific data.
And no, the awake unfortunately does not use logic that comes remotely close to that used by the emails and arguments presented on the site.
For a detailed explanation of the "straw man", I encourage you to visit and read this site:

Have a nice day.
