Why were you baptized?
by bluecanary ininspired by another thread.. i was baptized at 12 years old.
i had a cousin, two years older than me, who was prettier, more outgoing and more popular in the hall than i was.
i couldn't beat her at any of that stuff, but i figured i could be a better jw than she was.

Walk Away Quietly, Go Out with a Bang, Protest, Disappear- What's Best?
by OnTheWayOut inthere are many different things that each of us deal with, but the biggest reasons most come here is for support in their own lives and in dealing with the jw's in their lives.
so many are lurking or new here, so maybe they need to hear why some of you chose the path you chose.. for each of us, the decisions on how to leave the wt are our own.
i fast-faded and don't look over my shoulder worrying about the elders trying to trap me because my wife doesn't spy for them.

I faded because I just wanted to live my life, but not make any waves. Now I'm seriously considering DA'ing. I don't enjoy seeing former associates and deciding if I should speak to them or not, wondering if they'll ask about my status. If someone makes trouble I will definately DA! I should have DA'ed when my former friend called me from out-of-state to grill me for visiting my in-laws' church.

What Were Some Stupid Rules In Your Hall?
by minimus infamilies with younger children had to sit in the last 3 rows or they were counseled!.
disfellowshipped persons were told not to sit next to each other and talk because it "looks like they're unrepentant"..

I attended congregation in a predominantly black city. For a while, they didn't want women to wear braids. They came up with some b.s. reason. But I think it was because some of the older "friends" didn't like Afrocentric hairstyles. Self- hating, imperialist morons!!!!

WHAT WAS YOUR AHA! MOMENT THATIT WAS TIME TO EXIT THE BORG?
by freewilly01 ini had a huge light bulb on moment as i wasy in therapy dealing with a nasty anxiety disorder for many years and having a huge trigger in my life finally silenced.
it was almost the last thing that i thought i would end up doing expecially if you asked my wife and myself even a year before our decision to " live " thats how i view it not decision to leave...........it was a decision to live.. .
my therapist psychiatrist asked me who are you?

The meeting where the article regarding "approved bible study materials" was discussed in the September 2007 KM. I didn't want to drink the kool-aid anymore.

What Freedoms Do You Enjoy That You Couldn't As A Witness?
by minimus inas jws, we were in bondage to the organization, its rules and its whims.
now, we do not have to follow their direction and believe that whatever we were being told was by "theocratic" arrangement.. so, what freedoms do you have now that you have been liberated?.

My husband and I watch porn together.
We got to adult stores for goodies
I think for myself.
I LISTEN to people when they speak, not just look for a chance to proselytize.
I set goals and make longterm plans
I enjoy the company of my non-jw family, well I always did, but now I'm free to admit it.
Oh, I listen to GOSPEL music without shame!!!

I saw a former acquaintance recently. I saw her first from a distance. She later approached me and started a conversation:
Jw: PurplePlus? How are you? What congregation do you go to?
Me: None
JW: Yeah, I haven't seen you around. Why not? Are you alright?
Me: Do you really want to know?
Jw: Yeah
Me: I'm not gonna get into it here. It's a long story. I looked into some things and stuff is not adding up.
Jw: Do you want to talk later?
Me: No. I'm okay.
Jw: I hope so. I hope things turn out well for you. See you later.
We KNOW that even if she was sincerely interested, talking to her would do no good.
