If you felt/feel that you had/have good, close "friends" in the org, how did/does it feel to just give them up?
by Crisis of Conscience inthis is my biggest dilema.
although mentally i really feel i could walk away from the org right now, i still have genuine love for the people i have come to know over the years.
i love people!.

When I decided to think for myself, I drew away from my "friends". I knew they wouldn't share my views about the organization.

Thank you for the encouragement guys!
@sizemik: I like your translation.
@ambersun: Isn't this board great! I hope you and your hubby have an open discussion with your relatives. Who knows what will come of it.
@Quandry: Yes, I'm curious about people's reactions when he shares this encounter with others.

Thank you for the replies.
Yeah, JW's expect us to be ashamed and miserable for leaving the borg. If only they knew the truth.

Hello everyone,
While at a gas station, I saw an acquaintance from my JW days. I spoke to him first and he responded. We had a little small talk.
We parted ways for a moment, then he mentioned that he hadn't seen me at the hall in a while.
Me: "Oh, I don't do that anymore." said as if I was referring to smoking or some other bad habbit
Him: "What?" as if to confirm what he just heard
Me: "I don't go to the hall anymore"
Him: "Oh, what happened?" like he really wanted to know
Me: "I looked into some things, and the things didn't add up."
Him: "Well, I can understand that... How's your mother and father?" we were in high school together so he was aquainted with my family
Me: "We're all happy and healthy"
He said something else before that, which I can't remember. Then we said our goodbyes. Anyway the point is I told this guy that I DON'T go to the hall by CHOICE. He's probably an elder at his congregation now. It felt good to be honest and forthright. Yay me!

What has the WT$ TAKEN from you?
by VampireDCLXV inif you've been around here long enough, you will have seen people saying how they "gave up" or "sacrificed" certain things so that they could be good little jws.
what about those of us who were growing up in it and we didn't even have a choice in the matter?
what about those of us from whom some things in life were forcibly ripped away, things that 'normal' people take for granted in their life?.

The WTBS took my 20's away from me. When most people are ambitious and driven, I was complacent. I did just enough to support myself and be a "good publisher". I know I have the potential to do great things. However, I'm still mourning those years of suspended animation. "I would have been further along if I did such and such when I was 24 or 25." Thoughts like that still haunt me.

It's been a year now... (Yay me.)
by VampireDCLXV ini guess that my one year anniversary here has come.. i've made lots of friends... and perhaps a few enemies.. i've made people laugh... i've pissed people off.... i've made people think... i've made people cringe.... i've moved ahead in some areas of life... still stuck in some others.... i've had a lot of fun... i've had some tense moments and tears.... i've been able to make sense to people... spoke utter nonsense at other times.... to my 'fans' here: thanks for the support and having my back... .
to people who hate my guts: go ahead... take your best shot... .
either way, i win.

DO NOT have children in this system!!
by What Now? ingrowing up, this is something that my other always told me.
i've had several conversations with older sisters who have said that if they could do things over, they wouldn't have had children.
other couples my own age are horrified at the thought of raising children in "this system".

I've heard this statement several times while I was a JW. My sympathy is with anyone who WANTED children, but didn't have them because of the Borg's mind control.
When I first got married I didn't want to have children "in a divided household". About a month later, I stopped going to meetings and have since reconsidered my decision. Four years later I'm pregnant with my first child. I'm happy and anxious at the same time, like any other expectant mother.

Did you Fade Gradually or Stop Attending Meetings Quickly ? Reasons ?
by flipper inbeen thinking about this and curious about what makes us all come to the decisions we came to in our fade/exiting the jw organization.. i think for myself having been born-in & raised a jw my doubts about the generation doctrine had simmered for years within me quietly and by the time i finally left in 2003 i had reached my breaking point.
also seeing unjust treatment of rank & file witness ( myself included ) just propelled me into my decision even quicker.
so - one day after meeting with 3 elders in a back room before a meeting and seeing their judgmental aggression towards me - i just told myself " enough is enough ".
