It's a control issue.
They would much rather be the landlord and have total control of all the properties than be the lender.
With the new arrangement everyone pays rent and not a mortgage. Which changes the ownership to the WT

The Assembly Halls are big money, the one in Montreal is valued at $14.5 Million dollars and in Gatineau $8 Million dollars. The most expensive KH in Montreal is on Ward street valued at $3.1 Million.
Just 3 properties add up to over $25 Million.
Properties in Toronto and Vancouver must be even more expensive. The value of all the KHs and AHs worldwide must be staggering

I believe the GB has realized that in today's world the money is in the properties that the sheepies have already paid or are paying for. It's free money for the GB.
The new financial arrangement shows that the GB want full control of all these properties that have been constructed over the years. In my opinion, thats where the money is and the GB wants it badly.
Waiving the mortgages owed to them is a facade to show they're the good guys, only to eventually have all the properties in their name, I bet the arrangement of transfering all properties in their name is coming up next.
How much money does this represent??
I did a rough calculation; in the Province of Quebec most municipal evaluations are public, easily accessed by internet. In this province alone, I counted 99 Kingdom Halls and 2 Assembly Halls (there may be more), the value of all the properties are approx $90.4 Million dollars (I could not find th values of 14 KHs because they are in very small towns, therefore I did not include them in the $90.4M). Technically the amount should be higher.
We can estimate the value of all the properties in Canada and USA (excuding the Bethel facilities) by using a KH to publishers ratio. In Quebec there are approx 27,000 publishers, Canada's publishers are 115,000 which will give us an estimated value of $390 Million in Canada alone. The USA have 1.2M publishers which gives a value of $3.5 Billion in properties. This does not include the Bethel properties.
Just in Canada and USA the GB have access to approx $4 Billion dollars of properties that most elders would just sign over to them. If I'm missing something or calculating wrong, let me know.

by restrangled init was a long time coming for me.....when i read about the extened generations, after being raised on1914 being the be all end all, and millions would never die....that was the end.
i was part of the 1975 fiasco, the 6 month only truth book studies, suffered through a disifellowshipping and their version of a rewind.
i finally am free and hope others can eventually look in instead of inside looking out!

Raised in it since 1970, was the goodie JW for many years, pioneer, ms, elder, etc... went through the 1975 bs and stayed, confused about the generation teaching and started the fading process in 1995, however, still thought I needed it, maybe I was wrong, is it really the best way to live, not sure where to go, still attended some meetings, assemblies and memorial, then for me the biggest WTF moment was this:
When I researched 1918 claim that Jesus inspected religions and only chose The Watchtower.
How do they know that? An incredible claim indeed.
So I researched the WT's situation in 1918. The Judge and all his antics, bullying into the presidency, driving expensive cars, 2 homes in Cali, 1st class trips around the world to give speeches, never took his wife but his secretary, never went in service, a known alchoholic, crazy teachings that make no sense at all, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff.
I'm still upset at myself for giving the WT so many years of my life. Regardless, It's nice to be FREE!

WT is a corporation that made HUGE profits selling ETERNAL LIFE for over a century.
Their product: JW's be saved and we'll live in Paradise as a youth forever, which is really amazing. Once you believe it's very difficult to let go and who would want to let go.
WT make you jump through hoops to keep the hope alive. You have to Go to Meetings, Service, get Haircuts, Shave, wear Suits, Dresses, Be Modest, Repeat WT arguments as TRUTH, such as defining GENERATION, so we can be saved. Ridiculed for not participating in anything, just because We're DIFFERENT., etc, etc....
Reality, they are no different from any other religion out there. WT calls BULLSHIT with all other religions, like the Catholics, when it was the Catholics that voted in which books are to be included in the Holy Scriptures, to which we say it's from GOD. If anyone would come down from a mountain today and say, I SAW GOD, GOD wants us to do the following..... We would put him in a mental institute, however we believe it when someone did it 4000 years ago. We're INSANE.
I was raised in the WT way since the late 60's, did all the pioneering, MSing, Eldering, Public Talks, good little JW. Hoped for the new system since I was a kid. Today, there is even a GB member who is younger than I am.
I SAY ENOUGH BULLSHIT, and to the WT and the apologists i say, SHUT THE FUCK UP!!! All Religions should be flushed. Shame on all of them, including the WT for lying to us and profiting on FALSE promises
