Philip Schaff quote in the Watchtower? COOL! He's a Lutheran theologian/author from the 19th century. I think that quote is from his book on Christ. He also has a multi-volume tome on church history that is highly regarded. It is indeed srange that they would quote him in the WT, but wouldn't 'approve' or 'allow' Witnesses to read Schaff's works. :( I believe reading an excellent in-depth church history, would be extremely helpful in seeing the WT for what it is. Pointing to a few awful episodes in church history gives only a distorted view, as it leaves out the rest! Christians of all stripes really do stand on the shoulders of giants, not on the shoulders of a twenty-something who said he would now sit down and REALLY figure out the Bible for the first time in history! ROFL. William Miller, Joseph Smith, etc. did the same thing.
PS I'm not looking for an extended argument here, Schaff is one of my favorite authors, and i'm just basically commenting on the WT quoting him. I'm too menopausal to aruge about Christendom or church history today. THank you.
