JWs having Facebook Sex - Strongly warned to get off FB at CA yesterday
by shopaholic inso it appears that jws are letting their freaky side come out on fb for everyone to see.. there was talk on the ca yesterday strongly warning all true lovers of jehovah to delete their fb accounts.
the talk was solely about fb.
the speaker mentioned that jws are associating with people that would not associate with in real life, often using the excuse that the person is a relative.

I think the thing i liked about it was that over the years, i've observed that the various "education" programs in the schools only seem to increase the behaviors. I've read some articles and research that suggested the same thing. I remember being in jr high and learning the names of various kinds of drugs, and i had never heard of any of them before.

Helping others
by jdhf ini have recently become aware of many inconsistencies that we teach as jw's and it has really distressed me.
a few from our cong here in ireland get together and discuss the real truth from the bible.
we were wondering teh best road to go down to help others find out thetruth, without being labelled as apostates, esp at assemblies etc.

help with parenting ?
by creativhoney infor those who are now out and we can't use the 'what would jehovah think' method any more, has anyone struggled with discipline since leaving?.
my parents were so strict and laughter and silliness was frowned upon.
- especially by a militant stepfather.

I had 8 children, and know much less now than when i first started. But, i think if they are "generally lovely boys", you probably don't have that much to worry about. Over the years, i've gotten more and more laid back. I'm guessing that your intuition is correct, and they are just normal. I feel very uncomfortable around people who "super discipline/control" their children, and the kids act like perfect little zombies. THey're just human, they have moods, they get cranky, tired, sugared out, etc.
Sometimes if i see that pattern developing, of always fighting me about doing something, giving attitude, etc, i'll just calmly tell them that i'm adding on even more chores. That usually helps break the pattern, at least for a while. -- Often i'll say, you must do such and such, before you can do whatever (the more fun thing.) -- Sometimes i give them a bit of a break on being "mouthy", but other times i crack down, especially when i see a pattern, a habit of it.
Good luck, it's a challenge alright! but I'll bet you're doing great; you sound very conscientious and caring. :)
cheers, auntbee

Christmas Card Count?
by lovelylil2 ini am getting writers cramp right now after addressing and writing messages in 40 cards so far.
most of my cards are going to family and friends, a few coworkers and neighbors.. how about you?
how many cards are you mailing this year?.
-
AuntBee
I love Lovelylil's guideline for who to send a card to! hehe. I'm even more hardcore. I don't send one to anyone who sends me one with only a printed Christmas letter about their amazing kids and outstanding personal achievements. I only send one back to anyone who wrote me a personal note or letter along with the card. It's always under 10.
Maybe it's Scrooge-ish, but i value close friendships and relish personal correspondence. Call me some relic from a past era.....

Who believes in the POWER OF PRAYER?????
by whereami in.

If you mean by the "power of prayer", you asked for a certain request, and it happened.............I'm not sure i see that very often.
The way i look at it, though, i do believe it has power.
" 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. " -- I believe that i have experienced this, that praying about things about which I am anxious and worrying, does often result in an experience of the peace of God here spoken of.
I know also that when i pray for others, my love and concern for them is increased. It takes me out of my own little world of hurt and problems, and forces me to see behind the eyes of those around me, and care more about their sufferings. -- (and I'm not implying at all that those who don't believe in prayer don't care about others....... )
