Brotherdan, this one is really good too.
many of you have heard this recording, but i wanted to post it again for some of you (bottleofwater) that will possibily be in jc's soon.
rick townsend does an excellent job (imo) of attempting to defend his position to the elders.
in nearly every category his arguments are stronger.. it is a bit frustrating to listen to because of the elders lack of reasoning ability, but rick is amazing.

Brotherdan, this one is really good too.
we all talk about the negatives about the ugly face of the watchtower that i thought i would start a 'happy' thread.. what are some of your favorite non-wt quotes?.
here's a good one to start:.
you cannot be, i know, nor do i wish to see you, an inactive spectator.
“Now observe that when that clever harlot, our natural reason (which the pagans followed in trying to be most clever), takes a look at married life, she turns up her nose and says, “Alas, must I rock the baby, wash its diapers, make its bed, smell its stench, stay up nights with it, take care of it when it cries, heal its rashes and sores, and on top of that care for my wife, provide for her, labour at my trade, take care of this and take care of that, do this and do that, endure this and endure that, and whatever else of bitterness and drudgery married life involves? What, should I make such a prisoner of myself? O you poor, wretched fellow, have you taken a wife? Fie, fie upon such wretchedness and bitterness! It is better to remain free and lead a peaceful, carefree life; I will become a priest or a nun and compel my children to do likewise.” What then does Christian faith say to this? It opens its eyes, looks upon all these insignificant, distasteful, and despised duties in the Spirit, and is aware that they are all adorned with divine approval as with the costliest gold and jewels. It says, “O God, because I am certain that thou hast created me as a man and hast from my body begotten this child, I also know for a certainty that it meets with thy perfect pleasure. I confess to thee that I am not worthy to rock the little babe or wash its diapers, or to be entrusted with the care of the child and its mother. How is it that I, without any merit, have come to this distinction of being certain that I am serving thy creature and thy most precious will? 0 how gladly will I do so, though the duties should be even more insignificant and despised. Neither frost nor heat, neither drudgery nor labour, will distress or dissuade me, for I am certain that it is thus pleasing in thy sight. -- Martin Luther
expose article on dangers and misrepresentations of a number of new drugs - some points made:.
1) - according to an agency for healthcare research and quality report in 2001, more than 770,000 americans die each year from drug complications.. 2) - care patients don't need of failing to give care that is necessary accounts for an estimated 30% of the annual health care budget - more than 2.4 trillion dollars per year.. 3) - avandia, the diabetes drug made by glaxosmithkline was subject to 42 studies and a 2007 report by dr. steven nissen which showed it plainly increased chances of heart attack and death.
the u.s. senate committee on finance says the company knew about the cardiac side effects for several years before this report was published.. 4) - in 2002 jama published results of a huge study, called the antihypertensive and lipid-lowering treatment to prevent heart attack, or allhat, which showed that inexpensive generic drugs such as diuretics were just as effective as name brand drugs for controlling blood pressure.
My husband and i once saw a tv commercial for some drug that treats toe fungus. Then at the end, at a lower volume, a voice said "risks include heart attack ,sudden death, stroke, liver failure, ,etc....." and we looked at each other, laughed out loud, and figured we'd rather cope with the toe fungus!
Even if you don't agree with all of it, Suzanne Sommers' book on cancer called Knock Out, really exposes the insurance/drug co/doctor triumvirate. Even though some within the system are caring, health care has become such a big business, meaning TO MAKE MONEY.
just wanted to let anyone who is interested know that the videos from the 2010 "witnesses now for jesus" convention are up.
you can view them at:.

Debator: You admit they are imperfect men? Here are a few WT quotes:
“You may wisely decide against putting your trust in imperfect men and their fallible predictions and promises.” 3/15/66
“Build your hope on Scriptural truth, not on the imaginations of imperfect men.” 1/1/68
“ Can you imagine the potential for abuse if Jesus’ power were placed in the hands of an imperfect ruler? But Jesus was sinless. (1 Peter 2:22) He refused to be tainted by the selfishness, ambition, and greed that drive imperfect men to use their power to hurt others.” (Close to Jehovah, p.93)
“Do not despair, neither trust in imperfect men, who come to disappointment, but look to the secure and certain Fountainhead of all government and the Source of life.” (referring to God) 11/1/66
“According to First Timothy 6:20 it would be unwise to fill one’s mind with philosophies of imperfect men” (9/1/1975)
"as he is a god of love.. these things serve to protect individuals aswell as the congregations.
as a parent i fully understand the concept of wanting my children to choose their friends wisely, to be careful about literature they read & so on & would i cast them out for being wayward?
yes, i have, & they learnt their lesson & were welcomed back with immediacy the minute they made the necessary changes.
Unshackled: Your sister would probably identify with this gal, whose also 17, in case you haven't seen this already:

Unshackled: That is all SO sad. Is it legal to 'kick out' a 17-year old? Couldn't one get in trouble for child neglect/endangerment, since they're under 18?

We were all hurt at that time & deeply affected & yet we all healed from it... because we followed God's prescribed course!!!
so there's wisdom in what God has decreed. All is for our benefit... !!"
It's one thing to read about the harsh shunning, and then another to hear directly from someone how they put this into practice. Having read so many stories on here, and knowing a few people who have experienced it, in real life, this just churns my stomach. just....wow.
march 1, 1983 wt page 25 - consider some of the other twisted things used to mislead gods people today.
on occasion opposers will question the various teachings that jehovahs people hold in common.
often this becomes a debate about words, just as it was in the first century.
They should direct your mind, and influence your every decision. But if you try to call them out on anything, the GB, past presidents, and WT writers are just....imperfect men!
i know this has been a often discussed topic.
but i just can't understand the wt's take on this.
they freely admit that we do not know how god's name was pronounced.
The JWs like to claim they are a restoration of the eary church. So to one, i mentioned that the early church did emphasize the divine name. In the NT, the description of the earliest church is in the book of Acts. So, you can see how they emphasized the divine name by looking up all references to the word "name." :) Easy way to find out whose name they emphasized and preached. The person said they knew the truth, and didn't need to do that. -- (Hey i did not see Brother Dan's last post before i wrote this. LOL)
