How to prepare for a JC defense

Many of you have heard this recording, but I wanted to post it again for some of you (bottleofwater) that will possibily be in JC's soon. Rick Townsend does an EXCELLENT job (IMO) of attempting to defend his position to the elders. In nearly every category his arguments are stronger.

It is a bit frustrating to listen to because of the elders lack of reasoning ability, but Rick is amazing. I hope I will be like this during my eventual JC, if it ever comes.

On the other hand, why bother attending a JC at all? You may plant a seed or add a straw to the camel's back but one committee DFing isn't going to un-Dub an elder.

I've thought about that too, Mad. I guess I feel like I would want to go to mine for closure and so that I know that they know that I truly believe that I am doing the correct thing. I think JCs for apostasy are more for the one leaving than for the elders. It's not really to give them a witness (although it CAN do that as well) but to make your own defense before God.

That isn't really what I meant, Outlaw. It's allowing you to defend yourself to people that oppose you. This can have some healing effects on the person involved. It's dealing with and closing out a painful piece of your life.

Some people don't meet with them and never feel that that part of their life was officially closed. This is the same reason that many write letters or emails to their friends and family explaining themselves. While it may plant seeds of doubt in others, that is not the main reason for sending out the letters.

They don`t care what you think..

They are going to tell you how it is..Period..You don`t have an opinion in a JC..

If you think thats healing and will give you closure..Go for it..

maybe...maybe not. If you no longer accept their authority or subject yourself to their rules, then what point does it do to defend yourself against them?

I can see where DAing may give closure for some. But even then you don't have to subject yourself to their kangaroo inquistion. Just send them a three word letter (GFY) and that should be closure enough.

There is a point where you have to be comfortable with who you are and what you think and what you believe and you don't care if people oppose you. There will always be people who oppose you in something. You can't expect to have a court case everytime someone calls you out on your beliefs or opinion. Might as well as start with ignoring dumbass elders.
