I just wanted to throw in my two cents on theron ware, as he seems pretty modest and unassuming. Theron has had a brilliant career in two different fields, and has more than one published work-related book. I was beyond impressed that he achieved all of this with no family/parent support whatsoever, the trauma of shunning, etc. Not only that, he's a good conversationalist who doesn't talk down to an average Joe(sephine) like me! A really great guy, it made my day to meet him.

Then (1960) and now (2013)
by theron ware ini was raised as a jw from the age of 7. i was df'd for apostasy in 1971 at the age of 23. it has been 42 years since i have had contact with any jehovah's witnesses, including my family.
last year i moved to tucson.
when i read that a district assembly was coming to town, and that it would be at the convention center only minutes from my house, i decided to check it out.

Why won't JWs have "civilized" debates with home owners?
by ilikecheese init seems kind of crazy to go to someone's house touting your religion as truth and then not even defend your own beliefs.
why do jws stop the chat if someone just tries to calmly reason/debate with them?
i'm not talking about crazy preachers who start slamming bibles and yelling about how they need jesus or something.

As a "householder' whose been visited many times over the years, i think their willingness to have long discussions is not what it used to be, say, ten years ago. I don't know, maybe it's just true in my neck of the woods...who knows. My all time favorite was the woman who was almost cursing and literally shaking the dust off her feet as she left, after i had recited a generous sampling of WT false predictions. -- A year ago i asked a couple at the door if they could call me, because it was an inconvenient time, and i would like to discuss with them the 144,000 doctrine, but they never got back to me.

Cell Phones Distracting from the LIfe-saving message
by AuntBee ini dont' use my cell phone when with friends, to show them how important they are to me, and i am focusing on them, etc.
i turn it off completely.. i'm doing a free bible study with 2 really nice jw ladies.
but today, one of their phones went off loudly twice, and she had to check each time who it was etc.

I guess everyone has their own take on cell phones!
Thanks for the link, AnnOMaly, LOL!
Yes, it sure was helpful in that situation, Quarterback.
I'm pretty easy going and wasn't really taking it personally, i just made the observation, because i've spoken to JWs for years (usually by their initiative ) , and i think they are changing. I think there is noticeably less zeal and relish for defending their doctrines, than there used to be. At least from an outsider's perspective.

I was kind of surprised by that!
PS don't worry, i'm not trying to join the WT...

Expectation is not a false prohecy, Is the Watchtower Society in the clear ?
by wasblind inbecause there is a difference.
to expect somethin' doesn't mean it will happen.
for years the wts made a direct prophecy and have claimed to meet the qualifications.

I'd like to add - even if it was 'wrong expectation', the WT's VERY LONG list of "wrong expectations" shows them to be at best, a very poor interpreter of Scripture!!
I told 2 JW ladies last week, that i was once tricked by a guy named Hal Lindsey. He wrote a best-seller called " The Late Great Planet Earth", and said the end would be in the '80's, based on his understanding of the term "This generation", its length combined with his chosen starting point. Seeing as he was completely wrong on this, i no longer read any of his books, or listen to anything he says. -- I just kind of left it there for now, for them to make an application if they so chose.

Blondie's Comments You Will Not Hear at the 12-09-2012 WT Study (SHOW SPIRIT)
by blondie inspirit do you.
their spirit.
in the congregation today?.

Your reviews/comments are awesome!
It's interesting to note that the verb "show" is not really in this verse. This is clear when you look at the Kingdom Interlinear. In most translations, the verse reads simply: "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, amen"
The NWT does the same thing in Galatians 6:18.

untitled
by Terry inniight has fallen at the beth sarim mansion.. president joseph franklin rutherford (the "judge") sits calmly sipping whisky from a flask on the edge of his silk sheets at bedtime.
he sets the glass on the night stand.
he begins cleaning his nickel-plated pistol to high gleam.

Meet a friend of mine: G.K.Chesterton
by Terry ini love the mind of g.k.chesterton!.
he has a wonderful way of looking at things and then getting you to see them by saying something simple.. chesterton was a very creative man who was able to take on every subject with wit and turn things inside out.. as wiki describes him:.
he wrote on philosophy, ontology, poetry, plays, journalism, public lectures and debates, literary and art criticism, biography, christian apologetics, and fiction, including fantasy and detective fiction.. .

G K Chesterton defined absent-mindedness as present-mindedness about something else. LOL. Makes me feel a lot better.
I like the one you gave about tradition.
