I didn't want to take the chance of asking, if it would embarrass him, if it was a JW thing. He seems to really like keeping the 2 worlds separate. And i'm more than happy to accomodate that.
But i agree, who knows with teenagers. Mine are strange sometimes too. (lots of times actually, LOL)

Various random people, and friends of the kids eat here all the time. LOL. Maybe i'm just paranoid, and he just doesn't like my food! (He was a little shy at first, but i know he feels at home and welcome here.)

Blondie said: " I first heard the words "miracle wheat" when I was 19 shouted out from a house I had stopped by in my "ministry."
I'm going to pass on this tip to my family and friends. Perhaps a useful idea to keep in mind, when the doorbell rings, and one is not inclined at that very moment to argue the Trinity or the Divine Name.

Lots of familiar JW doctrine in Ellen G White
by AuntBee inhttp://www.greatcontroversy.org/books/gc/gc.html.
see especially chapters 17 - 24, for those who are interested.
basically, this is ellen white recounting in her own words the millerite movement, the great disappointment, and how she and others would never accept that he was wrong.

"ate the same mushrooms" ROFL, Lawrence! My impression was that she was somewhat mentally ill, maybe Narcissistic Personality Disorder? But i suppose some bad mushrooms would have the same effect. hehe.

See especially chapters 17 - 24, for those who are interested. Basically, this is Ellen White recounting in her own words the Millerite movement, the Great DIsappointment, and how she and others would never accept that he was wrong. IT's a truly bizarre thing to read. It's basically someone cutting and pasting verses from the Bible, and using flowery language for pages and pages, to prove that black is white. And false is true. -- After a time of intense seeking and re-studying the chronology, guess what conclusion they came to? The Second Advent did indeed occur in 1844, but.........IT WAS INVISIBLE!! Hmmm, sound familiar?
Some recurring themes I noticed were:
churches bad, us good
Our group, or individuals in it are....people or prophecies in the Bible! Like, we're the wise virgins. And some guy's prophetic chart was the fulfillment of a prophecy in Habakkuk! LOL.
"new light" "more light" "clearer light"
Those who got disillusioned after the false prophecy lacked faith, were worldly, couldn't endure, etc. God used the false prophecy to 'test' people, and weed out those with bad motives.

Timing Christ's Presence
by Ultimate Reality instartfragment.
obviously, this is an ongoing discussion.
in a past post (which was so popular, there were 0 replies) i mentioned a book by james stewart russell: the parousia: the new testament doctrine of our lord's second coming, which was written in 1878. the book is a discussion of the new testament as it relates to the subject of the parousia or christ's presence.

Another book that is a bit more accessible and shorter is called Last Days Madness by Gary DeMar. (I would think exJWs would just enjoy the title!) I think there are some differences, but much that is similar to the Parousia in his book.

Armageddon and Inward sins
by AuntBee indo jws believe that one will be destroyed at armageddon for inward sins, such as lack of love, unforigiveness, doing a 'spiritual' work from wrong motives ('to be seen of men'), lusful thoughts?
sins of omission, like not caring for the poor, not praying for one's enemies or rulers, not thinking of others more often and more highly than yourself?.
are some sins higher up on the sinfulness list, in that only some are 'mortal' sins, and with others, you can still get by?.

Yet what profit would it bring us
If our motives were not pure?"
Wow, that's heavy. I"m not sure if I've ever had a pure motive in my life. One completely free of self-interest. Having pure motives is a tall order for us humans.

Cawshun,
I concur with One Flew OVer the Cuckoo's Nest. It's so eerie, and really stays with you. DId you ever see the lady who played Nurse Ratchet on Deep Space Nine?
FOr people that like horror movies, i find nothing scarier than really BAD people. Like:
Misery
Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (very old, but has Bette Davis. really worth seeing. very creepy)
