New JW/exJW social network - Do You Know the Truth?
by passwordprotected ini've put together a basic social network with the demise of jwd in mind.. .
it's got forums, the ability for everyone to have their own blog, the ability to form private discussion groups, the ability to share photos and videos etc etc.
if you want to have a look it's here; do you know the truth?

It's just a little bit different in that it's not just discussions but the ability to plan events, have private areas where you invite your friends only, the ability to blog, the chance to upload and share videos (even from YouTube and Google video) and to connect to people in a social networking environment.

I'll Bet Many Won't Know What To Do Without JWD
by minimus inafter coming here almost every day for years, it will be bewildering to have no jwd.
and the truth is, there are other places that will pop up in the years to come but i doubt very much anything will be of this magnitude in regard to assisting others out of the organization.. i think if any are so inclined, they should make their emails available so as to make further contact with our cyber friends.. well now, i'm sure a lot of lurkers are kicking themselves for not joining here.
too late!

Freeminds - Announcements
by sweet pea inbarbara anderson recently posted that she felt at a loss as to where she would now be able to make her announcements.. hopefully freeminds can be the main place where we all go for big announcements once they are no longer available on jwd - freeminds helped many to initially find out the substance behind their doubts and i'm sure if there's not an announcement feature right now, randy can sort one out?
randy - where are you???.
one day there will be a site that will help doubting/fading/free ones to find a safe, caring and stimulating community, i can feel it in my bones.... .

I've suggested to Randy that he build on a social networking module to freeminds. There are free, open-source options out there that could totally expand the functionality of freeminds.

Watchtower CLUB Society.....
by justhuman inthis is actually wt's real name.
wt has become actually a social club and nothing more.
jws are in a "religious" club with activities that includes picnics, staying in hotels(assembley) going out for leasure, excursions in the "holy land- brooklyn".

I think you're right. How often at the meetings do the JWs get to chew on anything remotely solid scripturally? How often do they engage in hearty theological debate while going door-to-door? More often than not all they talk about is the latest gossip from the KH.
Now that I no longer attend meetings I'm seeing it more and more often; those who are the most die-hard JWs are those whose involvement with the cult is socially-motivated. Very close family members have actually told me, without a hint of shame, that the reason they're a JW isn't to worship God but rather because all of their friends are JWs. Oh, and they quite fancy the idea of a paradise to live in (good luck with that...).
Religious morality doesn't come into it. It's a club. And once you stop going to the meetings your social network collapses. -

New Light - July 15, 2008 SE of the WT - Sower and Seed - another angle
by independent_tre ini've seen the topic where they try to explain invisible growth, but something else about this wt magazine stands out.
if this isn't adulterating the word of god, i don't know what is.
the wts has done it again and managed to usurp jesus' position and interject themselves into his place.

No, they're not changing the GM book. But they are, as previously mentioned, choosing to refer only to Mark's account of the parable.
This is exactly the same as only every mentioning Matthew's rendering of the 'faithful and discreet slave' while choosing to ignore Luke's.* They choose the Gospel account that most closely matches whatever agenda they're pushing.
*Luke give a lot more detail as to why Jesus asked that rhetorical question, including some key features he'd be looking for on his return before bestowing his earthly belongings to anyone... -

Let's be careful. They aren't BLATANTLY being dishonest about how they're applying this scripture. They're focusing on Mark's version of the account. However, the cross-reference to Matt 13 suggests that Mark's accounts corresponds to Jesus talking about the field of wheat being over-sowed with weeds and the sower being the Son of Man.
However, it's clear that the 'man', while having no explanation in Mark's account, is clearly being shown to be Jesus - the Son of Man - in Matthew's account.
