What about when the FDS err by appointing child molesters, drunkards and fornicators? They never admit that either!
I'm almost tempted to attend this Sunday so that I can hear the drivel that's going to be spouted by the gaping-mouthed masses. I'm tempted to answer in par.1, drawing attention to Matt 28:19...
Thankfully for my still-in family I won't, but my wife is going to be there, so I can get all the news from her.

"Accept Jehovah's Authority" - Study Article 24th Aug
by passwordprotected inwhat space does that leave for jehovah?
the theme text is 1 john 5:3 which refers to the un-burdensome commandments of god.
quite what that scripture has to do with authority is puzzling, as it talks about the love of god not jehovah's authority.

It's really rather remarkable that the title of this Sunday's study article is "Accept Jehovah's Authority" when you consider Jesus' words in Matt 28:19, where he said he had been given all authority in heaven and on earth. What space does that leave for Jehovah?
The theme text is 1 John 5:3 which refers to the un-burdensome commandments of God. Quite what that scripture has to do with authority is puzzling, as it talks about the love of God not Jehovah's authority.
Considering Jesus' words re. having all authority in heaven and on earth you'd imagine that the FDS in their wisdom would linger on Jesus' role in all things on heaven and on earth. You know, seeing as how he said he'd been given authority in those domains.
Yet, the FDS pull off a corker; not only is Jesus mentioned only once in the whole article - par. 16 (and even then he's only mentioned in one sentence as the head of the congregation) - but they've managed to insert themselves into this notion of accepting (not Jesus' but) Jehovah's authority 4 times.
They also roll out the old classic - John 6; "to whom should we go away to?" They assert that it's through the FDS that God (not Jesus) is caring for his people today. Therefore, we should not go away from the FDS.
Another striking evidence of self-aggrandizing is in par.14 where they state;
"For example, the faithful and discreet slave has been admonishing us to "stay awake and keep our senses." (1 Thess. 5:6"
Very cleverly they - once again (this is a pattern most weeks at the WT study) - quote themselves as being the ones who said something from the Bible. In other words, God's inspired words come from them and vice versa.
All in all, this article is an abomination. Not only do they remove Jesus completely from the picture, they deny his own words where he stated that he had been given all authority, but they - once again - slip themselves into the role that Jesus said he and the Holy Spirit would have, that of aiding and directing Christians on earth -

The growth from within - more focus on youth coming soon
by passwordprotected inwith the wts blatantly 'stealing' the lds practice of family worship (home) evening (see previous thread), i foresee them going even further.
it's going to become about keeping the youth.
think about it, asides from 3rd world countries, there's little growth happening from the door knocking.

@Paul - I have Sept 2008's KM and the QB features this new 'provision' to allow both parents to count 4 hours per month.

With the WTS blatantly 'stealing' the LDS practice of Family Worship (Home) Evening (see previous thread), I foresee them going even further.
It's going to become about keeping the youth. Think about it, asides from 3rd world countries, there's little growth happening from the door knocking. They've already shown in the past few weeks that they're looking to boost the appearance of the annual report by allowing both husbands and wives to put 4 hours on the report slip for the 'family study'. But that doesn't solve the low growth figures.
We all know that an even more intense and meaningful family study via the Family Worship Evening isn't going to make the blind bit of difference to your average youth in the truth (that rhymes, cool). The next step will be to steal more LDS ideas. Youth 'churches', youth clubs, Sunday school-style Bible classes, youth initiatives, and so on.
I've heard tell of a CO advocating appointing MS at 17. Why? It's a good way to keep them in. But in order to get a boy to qualify to be an MS at 17 they're going to have to radically overhaul the way they involve their youth.
They must see that with their impotent public ministry (door knocking on Saturdays with colorful magazines masking a crumbling 1914 doctrine) that if they've to have any future growth it'll come from within. -

Immediately after their alleged appointment in 1919 Rutherford embarked on the shambles that was 'Millions Now Living Will Never Die'. Another false prophecy. They certainly lived up to their credentials in 1919.

One possible explanation for the change to CBS (& maybe other changes?)
by sir82 inas has been noted on this forum and elsewhere, recent years have seen a flurry of changes coming to the jw organization, at blinding speed (at least, as compared to their usual glacial pace).. here's a thought that occurred to me as to why all these changes, all of a sudden.. 2 or so years ago, the gb had 11 members.
since then, sydlik & barber have died.
the votes for "drop the book study" were probably either 6-5 or 7-4 in favor - a majority, but not the required 2/3 majority.. now they're down to 9 members, and probably the most recent vote to drop the book study was 6-3. voila!

I can see where sir is coming from. And he's right, elders tend to vote and act in groups. The GB would surely be no different. There are always agendas, sometimes personal ones, and if you can get enough fellow elders on your site you can push a matter through the vote. With the young bloods taking over the GB, it could be the case that they're finally pushing their agendas through.

Will the Book Study ever be dropped from the weekly meetings?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inthe book study is one of the most useless meetings.
the same books have been studied 3 or 4 times.the meeting takes only an hour but takes up most of your evening.
and, it is one of the least attended meetings.. why haven't they combined the watchtower study with just question and answer and then follow with the book study with just question and answer?

I've dug out the Aug 2007 KM and there it is on page 8 - "How the Congregation Book Study Arrangement Helps Us".
Note how it's referred to as an arrangement. It was never just another meeting for the WTS. It was part and parcel of their control techniques as were plainly laid out in this article;
- the BSO can get to 'know' the flock better
- the BSO can better keep his eye on the FS of the flock under his care
The last paragraph states the following;
"What a blessing the Congregation Book Study is! This loving arrangement from Jehovah helps us maintain our sure spiritual footing during the challenging times in which we live."
Compare that statement with paragraph 2 of the April 14t letter from the GB;
"Like the first-century governing body, we wish to add no further burden to you, except what is necessary."
In the space of 6 months this 'loving arrangement from Jehovah" had become an unnecessary burden. -
