@ reniaa does the true doctrine of the 'faithful and discreet' slave being appointed in 1919 and growing into a billion dollar publishing corporation stand up to "close examination of original translations"? Just curious. After-all, you need to accept that doctrine in order to survive Armageddon.

WANTED ! JW Apologist
by wobble inthis must have been mentioned before, but now reniaa is back it could be fun.. if jw's are even part way to the truth, and all other religions are false, then they must have a doctrine that is unique to them, given by holy spirit, but plainly taught in the bible, without resorting to fancifull exegesis and bouncing around from verse to verse out of context etc.. what is that doctrine?.
love.

now he has da'd himself and is defending the scriptures, not jw's.. this is the first time ever that i actually am starting to think/beleive that jesus and jehovah are the same thing.

"The Elders"
by minimus inwhen i think back of how the elders were viewed, even when i was a kid, i recognize that many people were deathly afraid of the elders.
my brother had been appointed in the 70s shortly after the elder arrangement was put into effect.
so my family always had an "in" because of our theocratic connections----not that my brother was very forceful.

Reniaa, if you posted less, would your posts have less spelling mistakes? Would they make more sense? Just wondering.
Anyway, the pressure elders and their families are put under, both before appointment - ie. when you're being 'considered for appointment' - and afterwards is great. But, as they say, where much is given much is expected in return.
Sadly, though, being an elder has little to do with scripturally and spiritually shepherding the flock and more to do with making sure the flock stays in line with Watch Tower Society rules, oftentimes as interpreted by one or two 'big personality' elders.

So the logical question to ask how 'how does Jesus appoint them?'

@Number1Anarchist - I'm not saying I've found the truth. I have a belief system, as do you.
So, let's say you were an alien, how would you describe yourself to us humans? What if we couldn't grasp everything about your being? Should we just disregard you and start viewing you - or anyone who tried to get a handle on you - as retarded? Now, be careful, you could easily start drifting into an ad hominem attack. I won't take offense if you do, though, because you are an anarchist, and the number 1 anarchist at that, so it should be expected.

@Number1Anarchist;
If there is a God you don't know what he is..... he didn't give you enough information to tell what he is now move on already!
As a human being, who are you? Explain who you are succinctly please and don't leave any gaps whereby we'd need to use our cognitive powers or else your explanation will come across as retarded.

My parents adopted my brother when he was a few weeks old. Like me, he was raised as a witness. By 17 years of age he'd been DFd twiced (first time was quashed by appeal). He was, for sure, lied about at the second JC, with the elders doing a 'witch-hunt' against him, asking virtually everyone in the congregation if they 'knew anything about him'. My dad, who was an elder at the time, had made himself pretty unpopular for one reason or another. They couldn't get at my dad, so they got at him through my brother.
My parents still gave him a roof over his head and tried their best with him after he was DFd. However, because he was no longer allowed any association with his friends, he made new friends 'in the world', got in with a bad crowd, later with a very bad crowd and before long left my parents' home.
In 15 years I've spoken to him a couple of times. We've made contact, briefly, this year after he heard I was no longer a JW. His life is a bit of a mess, TBH, and it's been so long since we had a relationship that I don't know him/him me. I feel pretty guilty about that.
So, he was rejected by his birth-parents, adopted by JWs, baptised into a religion that 'kills it's young' whenever they step out of line and effectively lost his adoptive family too.

FS chatter: Abrahamic Convenant Length (the end is nigh)
by yknot inokay so today was my day to take three very sweet and lovable older sisters out in early morning fs.. our territory was to visit those in nursing homes who had showed interest or were in need of 'encouragement' (by request only of course).
it is here that an interesting conversation occurred between the sisters and a very old (nearly 100) oldtimer jw.. he was very discouraged but yet encouraged with the generations change but wanted to discuss covenants.. specifically the abrahamic coventant and how it was 2000 or so years from then to christ and how we should be encouraged to ponder the fulfillment of christ's return either in 2030-2033.......... he referenced da judges "jehovah" book as confirmation that the slave had once touched on the subject....... none of the sisters objected to his musings nor remarked deeper once we left.. this is the first i have heard such talk in the jw world....... is anyone else hearing this kinda rationale?.
opinions..... .

I'm not into this sort of stuff, but I can totally imagine the WTS wrestling with it right now. Surely they need something to pin their future hopes on and it would fit in with the 120 years for Noah/2034 'teaching'.

Snapped. It just occurred to me that I REALLY hate my life. Mostly all of it.
by easyreader1970 inhere lately, i have just been wishing that i could just fast-forward through my remaining years on earth and just die to get this nonsense all over with.. i have only myself to blame.
if i had gone through with my attempt to leave this hokey religion about sixteen years ago when i attempted to--before i got married and had kids--then maybe i wouldn't be teetering on the very slippery edge of sanity.
instead i punked out, buckled under the threats of shunning and guilt of abandoning family members, and so here i am--looking into the mirror every morning wondering when the nightmare is going to end.

My wife now admits that nothing I ever did in "the truth" was ever good enough, even when I was an elder and we were visiting other congregations while I gave the PT on Sundays.
I'm not sure if you noticed what you wrote in your OP, but you said her mind shuts down when anything anti-Org comes up. But you also said that she isn't happy about the BSG ending. If she's allowing herself to feel some sort of negative emotion about something the Org has down - i.e. drop the BSG - then you may have the beginnings of a crack appearing.
I was troubled by the BSG decision and I told my wife I was really unsettled by it. She was very resistant to what I had to say at first. I felt bad about that, so I threw myself into 'doing more', once again. One of the things we started doing was proper family Bible reading. Once we started doing that SHE started noticing things in the Bible that were contrary to what the Org teaches.
Eventually it was my wife - whom I'd thought would throw me out if I voiced any serious concerns about the Org - who was pointing stuff out to ME.
Can you get your wife to talk about the BSG being dropped, the flimsy reason the Org has given for doing it? Can you get her to think about how she feels about their decision and the impact it's having on the lives of some JWs?
I'm really sorry to read how you're feeling.
