Good points.
I think it's important to remember that the Watch Tower Society was only supposed to be around for 40 years.
when examining a complex situation, i often find it useful to consider what isn't being said and what isn't being done - and why.. there are some major things that the watchtower hasn't bothered to do.
1) many congregations are full of ex-elders and ms's - almost to a point i would find embarrassing, if i were them but they don't seem to have any approach to getting these brothers back in the saddle.
neither do they seem interested in why these brothers quit and what could be done to prevent it.. 2) since the emergence of the internet and its challenges, they haven't made any deep or concerted effort at a witchhunt to clean disloyal brothers out of the organization.
Good points.

it seems to me that most of the borgs growth now is from 3rd world countries and from uneducated, poorer people.
i don't believe this was the case years ago.
and, there are a lot in that are stuck in.
I was always amazed at how little the congregation we were in donated. The wealthy ones were putting in around £10 per week via gift aid. Sometimes we were barely left with a surplus after donating £150 to the Society.
personally i hate bible ping-pong.
i don't think it ever gets anywhere, i don't think it solves anything and i don't think the participants ever make any head room.
however i will say in this case, i have been proven wrong.
Reniaa, when do you get time to prepare for meetings, have a meaningful share in the door-to-door ministry, study with your children (you have 3, right, one of whom is but a baby?), attend meetings, clean your home, earn a living etc etc? You really are a marvel. A single-mother of 3 young children with such time, dedication and Biblical knowledge to help all of us.

Reniaa, don't you have 3 kids to get breakfast for?
the search function here isn't what it used to be.. can anyone direct me to a reference that shows christianity grew to more than 144,000 converts by 98 ce?.
intuitively it seems like a no-brainer, but something better than gut instinct would be helpful.. om.
.
I was told that just because they died for their faith doesn't mean that they'd died faithfully....which is incredible logic when think about it. What more do you need to do for the Governing Body before they decide you're worthy of life?

These scholars arguing against the Trinity and flexing their considerable scriptural dexterity reminds me of the thousands of scholars who repeatedly write dissertations, hold conferences, lobby the physics establishment etc etc because they've 'proved' e=mc2 to be wrong.
these things are extemely popular.
they seem to share the common ingredients of taurine and caffiene, flavorings, and either an artificial sweentener or sugar.. my youngest son has invested in a distributor deal for one of the up and coming brands that is concentrated and sold in a little 2 swallow bottle, rather than a big 12 or 16oz can.
he has vending machines and counter displays.
Red Bull makes me feel ill, especially the sugared variety. I've been drinking a sugar-free supermarket own brand for several months and it's actually very good. Nice gentle lift and no headachey aftermath.
Great posts, Besty.
this is podcast 8 in the death or obedience series.. this was recorded on christmas day 2008.. after our last visit from two local elders my wife felt she could no longer be known as a jehovah's witness and had chosen to disassociate herself in november 2008.. we had been on a family holiday and had returned to find that one of the local elders who had visited us had warned off my mother-in-law from having anything to do with my wife - her daughter.
he also made false statements about one of my children.. i decided to confront this elder at the kingdom hall.
this podcast is the recording of our conversation.. notice how he denies making such statements to my mother-in-law and falsely accuses me of teaching her beliefs contrary to jehovah's witnesses.. i ask whether it's a sin to no longer be a jehovah's witness?.
It is the same person. He's in his early 60s now.
since leaving the borg i have becom a total telly addict......we have a tv in the living room, the bedroom and one in the office and at least one of those is on throughout the day......it doesn't stop me doing things.......it's more like background sometimes but i do find that i watch a lot more than anyone else i know.. now i'm not interested in soaps at all........i do however like series and films and although i actually hate it i will be addicted to bb now that it is on.. once i find a series i like i watch it "religiously" (haha) from beginning to end...... such as........star trek voyager, stargate sg-1, stargate atlantis, medium, supernatural, grey's anatomy, ghost whisperer, 24, west wing, chuck, csi (all 3), criminal minds, big bang theory, curb your enthusiasm, er, desperate housewives, lost, nip/tuck, house, deadliest catch, brothers and sisters, .................i could go on and on but i think you get the picture.. the thing is i make no apologies for watching so much telly......i love it after having times when i was young when my parents would put the tv away for weeks to try and encourage us to study more and spend more time playing games...... how much telly do you watch........what do you watch and why?.
rose x.
We bought a nice big LCD TV last year, but we hardly watch it. I've conditioned myself over the past few years to get my entertainment from the 'net and Bittorrent.
