Why all the masculine names???????? Why not Mother, Godess of Nature, Gramma???? personally It think trying to label god as male or female is just plain sexist! why dose god need to one or the other????
The thread is addressed to Christians so the answers will come from people who follow Christ. Christ instructed us to pray to our Father in heaven.

when we were a young child full of wonder at the world, so new, so innocent, we believed what ever mommy and daddy told us, if they said there was a tooth fairy why we believed it until we got older(hopefully) especially when we get our permanent teeth.. santa was probably discarded around the same time as the tooth fairy give or take a few years depending on gullibility or lack of it.. well lets face it we probably figured out the easter bunny first for the simple reason you only got some eggs,, which you can have any day of the week and you get to eat a lot of chocolate bunnies ears off not very pious mind you, nor do you fear the bunny might seek revenge for the impious act in some way like god might do remembering: the ark and ussa or wassa or something.
that definately should be considered as a contributing factor as to why and what order they get debuncked tooth fairy danta the benifit factor need to be brought in.. god too has to go in time, eventually, just like not all at once and for everybody.

If children are the ones who tend to believe in Santa etc, why do so many adults - some of them are even intelligent - chose to believe in God?

I'll say it again, Christianity is almost 2000 years old. It should have died out. The Bible contains literature that is much older. Surely it should have been reduced to a mere footnote in the evolution of mankind. Yet for some reason the story of Jesus and the cross is still shaping and changing lives around the world. That, to me, is absolutely incredible. I've experiened the change that speaking to Christ, inviting him to come into my life has had on me as a person and the life I live. Rather than living with any sort of fear, as many claim Christianity is about, I'm living a life where I fear nothing. I speak to Christ and he speaks back, either through the Bible or through circumstances beyond my control or through the tangible, answer to prayers. Incredibly millions of people believe God has and is speaking to them, just as millions believe he doesn't. God, we were told by Nietzsche, was dead. Frustratingly for the atheists he continues to live.
As for there being some sort of fuss over whether Christians worship in exactly the same way as they did 1700 years ago, my reply is to ask, is Jesus front and centre of any Chrisitan worship? Anyone claiming to be a Christian should always have Jesus font and centre in their worship. That's how it was in the 1st C. and that's all that really matters.

i will totally leave names out, as many get all huffy about that.
it's also possible that i am wrong, though i doubt it.. it's just that some trolls seem to deliberately be terrible spellers to make themselves look more naive and when they leave here for whatever reason, some new bad speller comes along in less than a week with an impossible problem or a complicated love situation with a jw or they are a firm believer with questions.

Evangelical, born again Christian, but I've rejected any fundy beliefs and actively pursue the knowledge of how to understand and interpret the Bible according the genre of the book in question (the Bible is a collection of 66 individual books covering a variety of genres, so it's important to identify what genre the book you're reading is and interpret it accordingly. "Understanding the Bible" by John Stott is highly recommended to anyone who is interested in getting a handle on the Bible).
