@ besty - Ruddafud said that the WTBTS were not the FDS, Russell was (even though he was wrapped in a toga and living in a wooden box). Obviously Ruddafud later binned that teaching and replaced it with the WTBTS being the FDS. Obviously he pulled all the strings at Bethel.

"Jehovah Provides Direction to the Slave"
by passwordprotected infeb 15th 2009 wt pgs 24,25. .
par 4 - subheading "jehovah trusts the slave".
after quoting ps32:8 (ot)"i shall certainly make you have insight..", the paragraph claims that jehovah provides direction to the slave, stating "we can therefore have full confidence in the scriptural insight, understanding and guidance that we receive from the slave.".

The last discussion my dad and I had a couple of months ago (the last time he spoke to me) he said the FDS is the Governing Body. So, for him the doctrine change won't require much brain-re-wiring.

When the NWT says that Jesus would receive a name above every [other] name, is that name Michael?

The Best Advice You Can Give
by AllTimeJeff inthe best advice you can give.
jehovah's witnesses (jw's), and other religions like them are at the forefront of advice giving.
you will frequently hear them talk about the value of experience, common sense, but especially the "widsom from above".

First "Big Meeting" for our hall was tonight
by Iwonder17 inso we hadour first big meeting tonigh ( bookstudy, ministry school and service meeting ) here are my observations:.
1) even though it is the same amount of time, it seemed verrrrry long.
2) it seemed like a circus.....too many parts that did not relate to the others....seemed like a crossword puzzel with 6 different languages.

Thanks for the info on the new meeting arrangement, I was wondering how it was going to be handled.
Re. the kids, that's genuinely sad. The meeting is already long and boring enough for kids, the only little flashes of excitement kids can get during a meeting is to participate.
One of the churches we attend on Sundays allows the kids to participate fully in the service. One time they invited all the kids up to the front during the worship songs and they had a big box of musical instruments, little drums etc and the kids could all 'play' along with the singing. They also have several big flags in purple and red and yellow and orange that the kids are allowed to go up to the front and wave back and forth. My wife and I love talking about the time our 8 year old son Cameron was stood at the front of the church during worship, waving a big flag wearing a huge smile on his face.
What a contrast to when we used to make him wear a suit, shirt and tie and sit through 2 hours of JW non-worship at the Kingdom Hall.
Jesus loved children, he gave them his time and attention. You can imagine him loving to hear them express themselves. Shame the Governing Body has other plans. -

I started to wake up, mentally, around the middle of April 2008. I stopped attending meetings on 21st July 2008. DAd on the 19th October 2008, IIRC.

@sbf - did you, as a JW - perhaps even still - believe that an elite group would rule over the earth, the rest of humanity working and toiling to turn the earth into a paradise-like state. The elite group would enjoy immortality in self-perpetuating, incorruptible bodies, ruling over the lives of the workers.
If you did believe that then you also believed what the 'elite' often talked about in 'conspiracy theories' intend for themselves. If the 'conspiracy theories' are crap, then it's safe to say the WTS teachings are crap.
You wonder if we'd all be better off back at the meetings. Yes, but only if we desire to have our lives controlled by an elite group of men living in America.
Good luck to you. -

Did you know? Jah and Jesus are present invisibly at the meetings.
by Trevor Scott inlooking for thoughts on this statement.
given that wt doctrine holds that jah is not omnipresent, and jesus is of course just a lowly angel who doesn't even have "holy spirit" at his disposal let alone omnipresence, how can it be said they are "present invisibly" at the meetings?.
since they are not omnipresent and can't be at every meeting, how can it be said that by not attending meetings jws are "snubbing them"?.

They wouldn't need to admit that Jesus and Jehovah are omnipresent if they were to admit that the Holy Spirit is God. If the Holy Spirit is God and it dwells among all Christians, then God would be among all worshipers at all times, even in JW meetings.

Just to chip in a bit further, Christ said he'd be with two or more believers who are gathered in his, not Jehovah's, name.
He promised he'd send, from the Father, the Holy Spirit. So, if the WTS wanted to, it could call on these promised to cite that God is in their midst at the meetings. However, that would throw up two problems;
- they'd have to admit that Jesus is God
- they'd have to admit that the Holy Spirit is God
It would also give them further problems in that they say only the anointed Christians can have the Holy Spirit, and while the number of memorial partakers is increasing, it isn't at the point where there's an anointed JW in every congregation around the planet, thus allowing Jehovah, via the presence of the Holy Spirit, to be there.
So, by their own teachings - and by their own refusal to accept scriptural truth - no, Jehovah and Jesus are most certainly not at their meetings.
