Jookbeard, great story, especially the fact that you survived it! Would also love to hear how you won the appeal.

I love how the WTS is perpetuating the falsehood that Proverbs 8:22 is talking about Jesus when even the quickest glance at the context shows that Proverbs 8 is about wisdom. I mean, come on...And adding [ ] doesn't make something fact. It's just you trying to fool 7 million people.
Open your eyes.

Johnny Appleseed was a Borgian (Borg cult est. 1792)
by cameo-d inswedenborgians.
founded in north america in 1792 as the church of the new jerusalem, the swedenborgian church was organized as a national body in 1817 and incorporated in illinois in 1861. its biblically based theology is derived from the spiritual, or mystical, experiences and biblical studies of the swedish scientist and philosopher emanuel swedenborg (1688-1772).. ....all who live a life of charity and good works, no matter their religion, have a place in heaven.. swedenborgians reject some traditional christian doctrine such as original sin, the trinity, the last judgment and jesus' atonement for all sin.. .

From the New Church site;
In order to bring the light of truth to the world, God came again. However, this time He did not appear in human form. He came as a new body of revelation given to us through the works of Emanuel Swedenborg, an eighteenth century scientist and theologian. A New Christianity was established in response to these truths, helping to spread God's teachings to people on earth. The New Church is one of many organizations dedicated to Swedenborg Theology.
Why is the Bible never enough for cultists?

Good news ,My son has researched the witnesses on his own !
by troubled mind inover the past three years i have dropped a few points about why i am no longer attending meetings .
nothing in depth .. i did stress alot of it was due to never feeling good enough , the emotional pressure to follow organizational rules over my own conscience and my personal objection of how education is discouraged .
i also have shared with my kids their whole life that when i was raised ,armegeddon fears were rammed down my throat ,something i refused to do to them .. i have worried excessivly how my older two sons would respond to me once they realized i am never going back .. well my son came home for a visit to go out and celebrate my birthday this weekend !

Luke 21:8 and the latest 2008 WT Library
by civicsi00 ini was perusing the latest 2008 wt library and i ran a search for luke 21:8 (one of the worst texts you could read to a jw).
when i first ran the search, the library only popped up with one article from 11/1/64 wt and a reference to some book called the kingdom of god is nigh (published by the wt in 1944, but is not found on the cd.
i did find it on the internet, though.).

Either the search facility isn't as good as they claim it is or they're being deliberately deceitful.
Can you paste in the content of the articles from 90, 94 and 08 please?

JWs & Atheists - Great (Cultic) Minds Think Alike
by Perry injws & atheists - great (cultic) minds think alike.
in the jehovahs witness religion, there is a ceremony known in those circles as the memorial of christs death, or just the memorial for short.
it is claimed and believed among members that jehovahs witnesses observe the exact same ceremony that is more widely known as the lords supper among christians.

@ Mastadon;
Not being a sucker for Fairy Tales, for one. :)
Being able to think freely
Being able to take resposibility for my own actions
Not condemning people to 'hell'/destruction because they don't 'believe' as I do
Being free from Bible/Religion induced fears and superstitions
Not butting into people's lives to tell them how to live their lives
Being able to see and appreciate people without the distorting lense of the Scriptures
Helping and loving people because I want to, not because an archaic book tells me I HAVE to
Wow. You could be describing me. And I'm a Bible reading Christian.

Had two mormons knock the door this morning
by digderidoo intwo young guys knocked my door this morning, kind of reminded me of my younger pioneer days.. anyway i told them i have a book of mormon and they wanted me to pray to god to ask him whether it was his word.
i asked them how god had answered them that it was, they said the holy spirit, but didn't elaborate.. i said to them i didn't think an organised religion is an exclusive way to god.
that certainly the first century christians weren't organised in such a way.

Ex-Elders, how did you resign?
by dismayed inthis issue is coming up for me soon, the resignation.
a physical move is out of the question.

It's very tricky to resign as the BOE need to send a form to the Society who may, in turn, request further probing into your reasons for resigning. Can you cite stress, depression, additional work requirements? Even doing this doesn't guarantee the BOE will readily accept your resignation; they may offer to 'lighten your load'.
Personally speaking, I resigned citing family commitments; we'd just found out we were expecting our third child.
After putting in my letter of resignation - and the PO asked me to wait a week before actually putting it in (I'd told him verbally I was coming off) - I stopped attending the meetings a week later.
Coming off as an elder is incredibly tricky; you'll lose face to matter what, you'll be seen as being weak, selfish etc. You'll be scrutinised and watched closely. There's no way to come off and keep your dignity long-term, I'm afraid.
