somebody who's become a friend is an ex catholic....pretty knowledgeable on all the mainstream christian doctrines and history etc....now into wicca beliefs....not a actual member, but in tune with the ideas....mediation, incense, being close to the earth yada yada.

not real wound up with it, not pushing it on me.....and theres no way i would ever go there.....just not my style, and think i am over any organized religion at this point.. a good friend, good person.....he cant really explain why he's into all that except it feels good....but i'm a little uncomfortable.....sad to say i think it's a holdover from the jw fear and loathing of anything remotely "demonic"......i'm a good researcher, and in 15-20 minutes on the internet i know i could dig up all the lowdown on wicca beliefs/practices/history etc.....and i know without looking it up that its all just a made-up job like so many other groups we know.....but i hold back because i'm afraid if i knew more i'd feel really uncomfortable with my friend.....i know, i know that's so lame....lol.

just wondering if any of you have any experience with the wicca thing, and what you think about all that.

I know a bit about it. From what I understand there are a few people here who walk in the way of the goddess so I do hope that my thoughts do not offend.

I find it difficult to accept something which has been, as someone else put it, 'made up'. I understand that wicca and wicca related practices have been around for thousands of years. However, there is no actual lineage from the ancients to the modern subscribers. There is no textual transmission, there is no line of direct communication through the ages.

I would love to have a go at a re-enactment of Greek rituals for the purposes of research, but I know that a re-enactment is all that is possible. We could go through the exact rituals, say exactly the same words etc, but that doesn't mean that it is a Greek ritual. It can only ever be re-enactment, and in the case of Greek ritual - we have a lot of ancient sources upon which such a re-creation could be based. With Wicca we simply do not.

In the end, it has to be a question of each to their own, as long as the 'each' of the 'own' is respectful and considerate of others.

she rattles off a huge list of wrong things, like dress better when going out {wear a jacket?

007 - it's a very crappy situation you are in. It's great that you can de-brief and get some perspective by posting here. Proabably a good idea not to let yourself get too isolated while you are going through this.

Please get a legal-eagle on the case. I'm not sure if you are aware of legislation in Australia about restraining orders and apprehended violence orders..... - it's pretty darn scary if you are the man on the receiving end of one of these. Police have to take any report seriously and unfortunately you don't get to prove your innocence until a court date - and while you are waiting for that to happen a lot of things can be done without you being able to intervene on your own behalf. Honestly, I had a friend in a similiar situation when he and his wife decided to seperate - it destroyed him.

Protect yourself - not just the financial stuff, but protect yourself legally so that she can't pull a nasty stunt on you. Lawyers and police tend to advice women of these options so please be cautious.

she doesn't want to work thru it.

lately and for awhile she has been amazingly aggressive to me.....and pretty much everyone else she knows.

many of us have had our ups and downs in relationships.

that being said, from what i've noticed people tend to put more effort and emphasis in picking a career or employment and being choosy about that - than putting the time into meeting and getting to know what kind of person they would like to have a relationship with.

so many people leave it up to random selection - not much thought - then they wonder down the road why they are getting burned !

I have learnt that one thing which is important to me in a partner is that they have a strong ethical and moral framework which is not determinedor governed by an institution.

By that I mean I look for someone who has actually given some thought as to how to be a human (or whatever we are).

Hi Bee Rose - I haven't had the chance to say hello to you yet, I've not been around for a few days so I missed your first post. So...hello.

There is a lot of emotion involved with this forum, but I don't think I would go so far as to say that it is evidence of hatred.

From the tragic story of your background (I went back to check your post) it is clear that you have been hurt terribly, and no doubt you too feel a lot of emotion when discussing these issues.

I am sure no one here will be offended by your comment. We all have our moments, don't we?

All we can do here is respect each other - which is a two way street - and suspend judgement until we are sure we have all of the information. In this way we can all learn, grow and ... well, .... live happy and fulfilled lives*.

I do hope you are able to stick around and gradually soak up the ambience of this forum. All the best.
