JW STYLE COMEDY.
by whereami inmore emails making the rounds.. .
the district conventions are right around the corner.
85-90 percent of "all scouting" done is done here.

All I remember of the conventions as a teenager in the '70s was the drunkenness and debauchery that went on after and sometimes during the program. Elders' kids were the wildest. It's probably worse now for all I know.
There's something about conventions, I don't care if it's shriners, JWs, navy pilots, or what, they just make people go bonkers.

Witness fear of demons why?
by donny induring my ten year sojourn through the watchtower, i was always amazed at the witnesses fear and fascination with demons.
occasionally at gatherings, they would exchange "demon" stories, which were just a jw way of telling ghost stories, and you would usually hear a few "uhhs" and "oh my's" as the story was told.
although i had heard folks of other denominations mention demons, it was never with the "shock and awe" the witnesses put into it.

I agree with Dogpatch, it's a mind control thing. The WT has the dubs convinced that if they leave, the demons will pounce on them and do.....something. There are plenty of real-life things to worry about without cowering in the corner thinking that some spirit is out to get you.
When I was a kid I grew up watching the old gothic horror movies.......vampires, good vs evil type films and loved them. When I was a witness, it was something I really missed. Now I watch the scary shows, and no, the TV doesn't levitate or anything like that. -

Too bad Jesus wasn't at any of these meetings or assemblies, he could have saved these people. Must have been busy elsewhere. Sway

Jerry Bergman on JWs destroying library books
by Dogpatch inthe number of my books in academic libraries.
i have authored several scholarly books and monographs about the jehovahs witnesses.
my books and articles on the watchtower and related topics are found in hundreds of university, college and other libraries, and have also been translated into 12 languages.

I never heard of any organized program to vandalize or destroy library books, but it doesn't surprise me that it happens. I've known plenty of over-the-edge witnesses doing some pretty strange things. I remember in the pre-internet days, I looked over some witness books in a public library in Minnesota. Someone had scribbled the word "lies" on the pages. I always found it ironic that the WT puts out publication after publication totally smearing other religions, but when it comes to anyone else criticizing the WT, well, that material should be destroyed.

What is your strangest "supernatural" JW story?
by donny ini had just became a witness and a guy i worked with, who was also a jw, told me a story that actually made me laugh and i think it upset him a bit.
the storys were almost always in the third person.
it went as follows.. this brothers wife and him were sitting at the kingdom hall on the end seats of the row next to the back of the room.

I used to live in a house where if you didn't shut the front door completely, the wind would blow it open. It would look like the door opened by itself, but it was just air pressure. Anyway, when I first started studying with the JWs, this brother (who was deathly afraid of demons), was studying one one of the books with me in the living room. The front door opened with no one near it. I didn't pay it any attention because it happened so often but he turned white as a ghost and thought a demon had just come in the door. I tried to explain to him that the door just does that sometimes, but he was really freaked out and didn't believe me. That same brother told me he knew of a witness who decided to play around with a Oujia board--when they found him in the morning, every bone in his body was broken. I knew one brother who bought the Alice Cooper album "Billion Dollar Babies" (yes, a vinyl record, long time ago). He claimed he heard babies crying every night until he threw away the record. But the guy smoked a lot of pot so who knows what he was hearing.

I think I made "The List"
by RR inso jehovah's witnesses came to our door, this is about the fifth time, i always miss them, but they talk to my wife, this time i was home due to the holiday season, the man was an elder, he came with a newbie, thought he would show her "how's its done"), the young women sat there with mouth wide open, as she watched me beat up her elder with his own bible.
well after discussing the scriptures for about 2 hours, (subjects included: salvation, ransom, permission of evil, god's organization), she looked at me and said "amazing, i've never heard it explained quite that way before.".
the elder asked me what religious affiliations i had, i told him, "i am with the associated bible students.

Man, that is pretty rude of that elder. I mean, he was the one that came to your door, not the other way around. To call someone the Antichrist just because you have some scriptural differences is way out of line. But knowing the JWs, it doesn't surprise me. Also, the Antichrist has already been identified--it's that Damien kid from those Omen movies.

I guess now the study articles are top secret "for your eyes only" material. What always got me was how they made a point of saying that certain releases were for baptized publishers only. For example that goofy WT library CD they put out, they always made it clear that it was not to be given out to non-witnesses or copied. I thought "who cares?" If the material is so great, you'd think they'd want everyone in the world to have a copy.
