What is the reason that the WTS uses for not celebrating Thanksgiving
by insearchoftruth inwell i overheard my wife last night on the phone telling someone she does not celebrate thanksgiving, i have asked her in the past why and she gave the stock answer about how holidays are rooted in paganism.
well from what i know, there is nothing pagan about the thanksgiving celebration, what is the official reason that is given for not celebrating this?

When in doubt, the JW can pull out the Catch-All excuse: "We are no part of the world."
Thanksgiving is a worldy holiday.

Little by little, hubby is doing less and less as a JW...
by cognac infirst he dropped studing, then it was field service... now he has asked me if i feel like going to the meeting tonight because he doesn't really want to and so we are staying home.
this is the 2nd time this week he has done that.
his best friend got demoted from his ms position and got privately reproved.

Encouraging news! The more he stays away from the meetings (indoctrination sessions), the easier it will become for him to think for himself.

Deceptive or just wrong?
by johnnyc ini have been virtually non-stop studying everything i can get my hands on with regards the wtbts, and "apostate" literature and information.
in all honesty, 80% at least is non-sense and over critical.
however, i do find about 20% (if i have to create a percentage reference) is appropriate in its line of reasoning and questioning.

Recommended Reading:
Thus Saith Jehovah's Witnesses by Randall Waters
Captives of a Concept by Don Cameron
These two books do an excellent job of 'connecting the dots' in a concise manner.

The problem with much of what I read is the conclusion which the information is trying to promote - namely, the WTBTS is deceptive or fraudulent in its claims.
JWs can be deceptive and fraudulent, even if they are 100% certain they have the truth and 100% sincere in their motives.
When something is not true, it's not true. The core doctrine is that they alone are God's Organization and that being a member of their religion is a requirement for everlasting life. As this is demonstrably false, the WTBTS is, by definition, both deceptive and fraudulent.

We may disagree on the definition of a "False Prophet". However, the most important question, in my mind, is "Are Jehovah's Witnesses God's Organization?". Does "Salvation" exist, only through the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses?
Have you read either of Franz's books? If not, I cannot recommend them strongly enough. Less than 20% of Ray's material can be described as concerning Bitterness or Dates. You may them to be quite fascinating.
You may enjoy a few of these points, as well:
