An older woman who was in my former book study told me she asked the others after one Revelation chapter: 'Is this making sense to anybody??' I wish I had been there to see the reaction.

Do JWs miss having large parties, pot-lucks, etc?
by navytownroger inas has been stated before, large congregational get-togethers, cook-outs, baseball games, etc are now greatly discouraged by the society.
back in the 80s in san diego we had parties, night-time beach bonfires, pool parties and frequent restaurant meals with 10+ people.
do current jws seem to miss these sorts of social activities??

If individual JWs just got together quietly & decided to once more start having big social get-togethers, what could the higher-ups really do about it? What 'official' Biblical reasons could the Elders give to discourage it? But the R & F should just do it anyway. Where does it say in the Bible that 'fun' & socializing is not allowed??

Are any such activities still going on? I recently heard of a large group of single JWs in California going on a Caribbean cruise. Are they the rare exception?

The end of the gentile times....
by digderidoo ini have been having a serious dicussion on another site with a jw.
so far i think i have got my point across regarding 1914 and how the date wasn't actually predicted.
whereas he has come back and said that they did in fact predict "the end of the gentile times".. to a point he is right, russell and his associates did say this.

'The end of the Gentile Times'???? Sorry, I hate to break the news to your JW friend, but there ARE no 'Gentile Times'. It's all a crazy delusion dreamed up by Russell, Ruherford, et al. So the 'end' of the so-called Gentile Times will never happen because it's just a figment of someone's fervid imagination. The world will continue to proceed merrily along it's path for centuries to come, totally disregarding the JWs crack-pot theories.

Is this fair?
by nbernat inthis is my take on the whole inherited sin thing:.
let's say your parents committed a crime and were sentenced to life in prison, let's say 140 years.
now, they died 90 years short of their sentence.

When Eve took a bite out of the forbidden fruit, it was only a 'fraction' of the fruit. Per the JWs new blood policy that would be perfectly OK, right? Eve should have used that argument: 'Hey Jehovah, I only ate a fruit FRACTION!'

Are JWs allowed to declare bankruptcy??
by navytownroger inhas anyone known or heard of baptized jws declaring bankruptcy?
if so, wouldn't that amount to 'stealing' from the businesses or persons they owe money to?
when you incur a debt, isn't there a legally-binding 'promise' that you will pay back what you owe?

Thanks for all the great comments. I agree that there can be legitimate reasons for people to file for bankruptcy, Chapter 11, etc, But I can't see why the WTBTS allows Witnesses to do so. The fact remains, the creditors loan money in good faith, expecting it to be repaid. Regardless of the 'personal circuumstances', when a Witness declares bankruptcy, the creditors get stiffed. Their money has been legally 'stolen'. How do Witnesses justify legalized stealing when they are always bragging about being much more honest than Worldly people? I'd like to see them explain their hypocricy.

Why do many JWs neglect their health conditions?
by navytownroger inmy former bible study conductor has heart problems and very high blood pressure, but doesn't seem concerned about it.
another witness i knew had heart problems but never went to doctors, & eventually dropped dead suddenly.
given that cigarette smoking is a disfellowshipping offense, why aren't jws reprimanded when they otherwise neglect & jeopardize their health?

Why such boring & canned answers at the WT Study?
by navytownroger inback in th 1980s, the answers at the watchtower study & the book study seemed much more interesting.
more personal experiences that somehow related to the question being asked.
nowadays it seems all answers are just repeated from the text, or consist of reading a bible verse.

Nowadays it seems all answers are just repeated from the text, or consist of reading a Bible verse. Has the FDS officially cracked down on original, interesting answers? Also, I was told by a MS recently that the new policy is to only call on 2 children during the Watchtower Study. Supposedly this is because 'the meetings are for adults'. Anyone else aware of this?

Dropped from my Bible Study like a hot potato
by navytownroger ini had a bible study with a jehovah's witness for the past year and a half.
i was also attending meetings, but never went out in field service.
during a recent study, i told the conductor that i didn't believe in the 'annointed' & didn't believe the fds had a 'hotline' to jehovah.

I had a Bible Study with a Jehovah's Witness for the past year and a half. I was also attending meetings, but never went out in field service. During a recent study, I told the conductor that I didn't believe in the 'Annointed' & didn't believe the FDS had a 'hotline' to Jehovah. I also said why should we believe what the Watchtower says since it will change in a few years, and why do people give canned answers during the Watchtower study. I objected to people not thinking for themselves. I said I felt that Jesus is the mediator for ALL people, not just the 144,000. He really had no answers to my comments, but thanked me for bringing it up. Then the next few weeks he didn't call or show up for the Bible Study. Once he & a CO dropped by to invite me to the CO's talk (which I didn't go to). He said something about having 'health problems'. Then the following week no call about Bible Study. Apparently I was dropped like a hot potato when I started asking hard questions about the Organization & the doctrines. Has anyone else had a similar experience or heard of a similar occurance?
