I think Jesus was only talking to his immediate followers when he instructed them to 'keep doing this in remembrance of me'. I doubt he was even thinking that millions of people far in the future would be partaking. So I see no real sense in the Witnesses even celebrating the Memorial. I'd rather they volunteered in homeless shelters, hospitals & orphanages, etc. That would be a REAL 'memorial' to honor Jesus.

How many Kingdom Halls are being built/closed?
by navytownroger indoes anyone have any idea how many kingdom halls were built in the us during the last decade versus how many were closed?
what is the ratio in the area you live in?
with so many teenagers deserting the jws, i'd think that soon they'll be closing more khs than they are building, at least in the us and western europe.

I started with a small, simple tattoo just to get my feet wet. I liked it so much that I then added more to it & eventually had quite a few tats. So starting kinda small might be a good idea----just my opinion. Do what feels best to you!

"If you are Christian you are definately Trinitarian"
by Sirona inmy jw mother thinks that all christians (non jws who call themselves christian) are all trinitarian.. i tried to point out that there are certain groups who are not trinitarian, but she seemed to think that all christian groups in babylon the great believe in the trinity.. is it true that only fringe groups reject the trinity?.
sorry for my ignorance but i don't know much about mainstream christianity.. i would like to email her (my mum) a list of religions which reject the trinity but are also christian.
i also heard of groups who believe and preach about jehovah as gods name.. sirona.

I once worshipped at a United Pentecostal church, and they definitely reject the Trinity doctrine. They call themselves 'Oneness' Pentecostals.

Limiting comments by kids during WT Study
by navytownroger ini was told recently by a ministerial servant that the word had come down from above that from now on only two comments by children will be allowed during the wt study.
the reason: the meetings are geared to adults, not children.
has anyone else heard of this policy??

Won't this cause even more kids to eventually abandon the JW religion when they reach 18?

Will the WTBTS ever become mainstream like the WWCG?
by donny inback during the 80's and 90's, i occasionally heard statements lumping the society in with the likes of the worldwide church of god who had very similar teachings and even believed in 1975 as being a year that god would act (1975 in prophecy!
by herbert w. armstrong).
clearly the roots of the wwcg were from the same as the societys and both groups were viewed as cults.

I don't think the Witnesses have ANY intention of becoming more mainstream. They are too invested in being different & 'not part of the World'. They may change a bit around the edges for legal reasons or to update their failed predictions (1914) but I don't foresee any big effort to appeal to the masses. All the better for them to withdraw more deeply into an air-tight box divorced from reality. Hopefully more & more members will get fed up with it all & drop out.

Name something that JWs believe in that isn't in the Bible
by Awakened at Gilead inmy favorites are:.
"paradise earth": not in the bible.
"great crowd" of "other sheep" - two unrelated texts... put them together, and voila!, you just changed the destiny of millions!.

WHERE in the Bible does it say Jesus is the mediator for ONLY the 144,000??? WHERE in the Bible does it say the Greek Scriptures are written ONLY for the 144,000?? WHERE in the Bible does it say ONLY the Annointed can take the emblems at the Memorial?? WHERE in the Bible does it say to ONLY observe the 'Last Supper' once a year?? WHERE in the Bible does it say the FDS are God's exclusive channel?? WHERE in the Bible does it say ONLY the Watchtower Society can interpret Scripture correctly? WHERE in the Bible does it say NOT to pray to Jesus Christ? WHERE in the Bible does it forbid the congregation to hold 'large social gatherings"?? WHERE in the Bble does it forbid giving money/assistance to charities?? Inquiring minds want to know-----

Adam unfairly treated?
by MacHislopp ina friend of mine confronted me with this :.
adam : a perfect man - with a free-will - disobeyed god, was punished with .
death, no appeal, no attenuating circumstances and the sentence.

The way I see it, the entire Adam & Eve story is just made-up nonsense. The was no Adam or Eve, nor was there a Satan, a 'snake' or an angry Jehovah. Why in the world people still buy into this silly stuff is a mystery to me. If JWs want to believe it's true, fine. But I really don't believe ANY of it.

Do JWs need the BoE as substitute father-figures??
by navytownroger inwhat in the world really attracts new people to the jws??
most new ones don't know or understand the complicated theology, so i doubt it's that.
is it the love-bombing & friendliness?

What in the world REALLY attracts new people to the JWs?? Most new ones don't know or understand the complicated theology, so I doubt it's that. Is it the love-bombing & friendliness? The promise of 'living forever' on Paradise Earth? I wonder if people who were raised by parents who were very strict & who enforced rigid family rules would be equally attracted to the authoritarian rules of the WTBTS. Maybe they're hoping to recreate the family dynamics they grew up with: A big 'super-parent' telling them how to live & what to think. Any opinions are welcome.

When Cults Collapse---
by navytownroger ini was in a los angeles cult in the 70s (unrelated to jw) and finally at one point most of the cult members 'woke up' simultaneously & saw that the leaders had been emotionally abusive and oppressive.
once everyone woke up, the entire cult collapsed within days.
a similar thing happened in the communist countries----everyone suddenly got tired of being oppressed.

Once everyone woke up, the entire cult collapsed within days. A similar thing happened in the Communist countries----everyone suddenly got tired of being oppressed. What will it take to get a majority of JWs to similarly 'wake up' & leave the cult? What will be the factor that pushes people over the edge? If any current JWs are reading this, I'd definitely appreciate your views on this. But everybody's comments are welcome.
