  Amputations and Phantom Pain

  has anyone known of a person who has had a limb amputated?

  and then experienced what they call phantom pain?.

  i have seen this first hand and it is quite incredible.

  I have seen this first hand and it is quite incredible. The person still feels pain, heat, cold, itching, etc. after the limb is gone.

  I have also seen a "healing touch therapist" in the hospital message the absent limb and even go to a specific part of the missing limb that was itching to scratch it. The patient directed the therapist, lower, higher, left, right, until she found just the right spot to scratch. As she did, the patient responded, yes, that's it, Oh, it feels so good.

  I was quite blown away. Any thoughts, comments, experiences?

  Anyone heard of Richard Sohl? Pianist. Died. I think he was with Patti Smith's group? Anyone know what became of his sisters and brother, Steve? They lived in Flusing Meadows, NY.

  PO reads a special letter tonight...

  our po...who is really full of himself....reckons that he is reading a special letter tonight, he says he isn't allowed to tell fellow elders before the public reading.

  just a word of caution....our po...is one who loves all the mystery and secrets, so my inkling is that it will be a crock of crap.

  however it may prove to be interesting...i will tell you after meeting tonight.

  What a great business move. They can collect a commission for the bookings, as well as create a tidy database of those who attend, along with their credit card numbers. Brilliant! Don't forget the comp'd rooms that come along with the large block reservations so that the speakers sent from NY get free rooms.

  FIRST BORN

  My son, my love, my beautiful little boy. My friend, my hero, my ultimate joy. My confidant, my companion, I the parent, yet he my teacher. How I adore his every feature. My world, my life, my moon, my star. Death can not separate us , from me he’ll never be far. This system we live in is but a temporary phase, And into his eyes, I will once again gaze.   Funerals

  hi all, yes it's been a while since i have posted.

  mostly traveling ok, with normal stresses and strains.

  so have a question about funerals.

  Most of the ones I attended did not have a coffin or cremains present....it was actually a "memorial service" and the "talk" was an outline pretty much adhered to by the society. Not that much was mentioned about the person themself, but more about the person's hope and a "come to the hall and learn more" type of talk.

  On the other hand, I have attended many Catholic funerals where people are encouraged to get up and say something about the person. That really lends a more intimate insight into the person and who they were. Which, by the way, I see the transparency of the witnesses declaring that a persons death is more important that their birth....again about Birthdays....BUT, why at the funeral/memorial service don't they talk about the person, who they were, their life, etc. etc. if they really believed that their death is more important their their birth. This makes no sense to me. Sort of hypocritical. Any comments?

  Why don't JW's have their own school for young people?

  this is something that i have been asked several times and have wondered myself.

  it would alleviate all of the uncomfortable situations involved with flag saluting, birthday parties, etc...

  You are correct about the school in Long Beach, California. My grandchildren went there year before last. It has since closed. It was a terrible experience, little or no homework, and what can you learn/be taught in a 3 hour school day? It was from K through 12th grade. So many days off you can't believe...when the Seniors had field trips, etc. the rest of the school closed because there were only 7 "teachers'. We believe that only 1 was fully accredited...I could go on and on. One of the favorite "teachers" quit and he emailed and/or phoned the students to reveal the inner politics and to undermine the authority of the Principal, even going so far as calling her "a bitch" in front of the students during a class. The students did not act like Witnesses, the clothing was inappropriate, they bullied people, made fun of people, and there was a lot of gossip and name-calling. Although the open house looked impressive, the projects were all assigned and due one week before the open house. This year-long experience contributed to one of the reasons why they are no longer going to meetings.

  The level of education was grossly sub-standard. The reason given for closing the school was due to financial reasons and the decline in enrollment. I wonder why?!?

  Where are these kids now? My grandchildren are in public school doing well. The others, maybe being homeschooled?

  i have a few which still either anger me, make me sad or just make me grateful that i am no longer one of them.

  1 - "well, everyone is going to die anyway, so if it at armageddon then ce la vie" 2 - "the disater today at the world trade centre is sad, but exciting" 3 - (an elder) "when armageddon happens, i want to be at a window, watching it all".

  Told by a MS who was a co-worker back in the late 1960's that my husband and I would be welcome at his home, AFTER my husband was a dedicated and baptised Witness. This was a man who smoked at work and hid his cigarette under his desk, as if I didn't see the smoke coming out.
