When the sisters were first given assignments back in the 50's, mine was from the dark green book, I think it was called "JW's in the Divine Purpose" I was relating the experience from someone in Madgeburg, Germany probably during WWII. Since my mom's name was Madge I pronounced the city "Madge burg". When I was finished, the brother was fast to tell me, and the audience, that the pronounciation of the city is Mag-de-burg. They laughed. I wanted to crawl under the seats.

Embarrassing Moments on the Platform
by HintOfLime ini was thinking the other day about a potential answer to the frequent party question 'what was your most embarrassing moment?'.
immediately my mind went to my last experience on the theocratic school.
as an aspiring ms, i volunteered at the last minute to give a #4 talk on a particular individual (ignorant of what i was about to get myself into).

Not too much has been said about the other bros and sis of MJ. A number of years ago I was working, non-paid, for a huge tribute to Ray Charles at the HOB in Hollywood. I was checking in the guests and giving them their credentials. Bonnie Raitts' father came up to the desk, said I'm checking in, John Raitt, I gave him is ID. Then Germaine J. came up and said he was checking in. Very low key, very soft voice, unassuming, never would have known or recognized him. Seemed very normal, nice guy.

Still have nightmares where I am saying or dreaming in my sleep "Jehovah" "Jehovah" -- supposed to get rid of them immediately. Sometimes wake up in a cold sweat, trembling, and I am 62 years old! This is crazy. I am seeing a specialist about this. Is it guilt because I no longer go to meetings? Super head trip or brain washed, if you will.

FIRST AID at the DCs
by tresdecu inthe thread about the old woman who died at the assembly got me thinking about how first aid is run at the conventions.
for many years i worked as an attendant, we were always instructed that, if there is a medical emergency to contact first aid and not to call an ambulance directly from the location.
in the age of cell phones it made much more sense to me to call 911 right away (for serious emergencies) , if it's a stroke or heart attack time is critical.

If all the good Dubs followed the direction about no higher learning, pretty soon there would be nobody left with any training. What would they do then?

Missing School Functions
by WTWizard ini know that the witlesses are not supposed to go to many school activities.
these include after-school sports and competitions, scouting, and other extra-curricular activities and class trips that may last beyond school hours.
the most cited excuses (flimsy they may be) are bad associations, the money, time, and the possibility of compromise.. now, i wonder how many people have missed field trips that happened during normal school hours because of being witlesses.

Such a shame -- missing out on field trips such as performing arts centers, concerts and plays, museums, etc. Cultural things that these kids might otherwise never experience. When I was a child my mother allowed me to attend field trips. I remember hearing the Cleveland Orchestra, visiting the Cleveland Art Museum, a working farm, Western Reserve Historical Society, etc. My grandchildren have visited the Getty, the Getty Villa, LA Museum of Art, etc. Very enriching and educational. I get furious when I think about this subject!!! Not participating in back to school night, open house and field trips is wrong, wrong, wrong. I wonder what the school thinks of such hands-off negligent parents? They may view them as uneducated, low-life losers who are not very interested in their child's growth and development.

by Gram inwe were there last night and wondered if/how aretha would acknowledge or pay tribute to his death.
about 1/2 way into the show, she acknowledged some people in the audience, among them being jesse jackson.

She said something about the loss of a brilliant musician and to have a moment of silence. You could have heard a pin drop. I thought it was handled very well, short, sweet and appropriate.

"I couldn't have said it better myself"
"Sxxt for brains"
"snap"
"dang"
ending a sentence with "huh?" Not quite a question, rather a statement at the end like saying "right"

I am so so sorry for your loss. We had to put Mr. Meow to sleep last summer. He looked so peaceful and out of pain afterwards that we knew we had made the right decision. He was 17 yrs. old and had outlived my grandson and major moves from So. Cal to No. Cal and back to So. Cal. He was a kitten found in a dumpster that my daughter rescued and he became one of the greatest cats ever. We had him cremated and his cremains are on a shelf with the fine china and my grandsons' cremated leg.
Life does go on and we now have 2 stray rescued cats. In time, you may wish to rescue a stray or abandoned kitty.
In tears and empathy on your loss.
