As far as I know, the KH in Canada are deeded to the society. Where some are in close vicinity to others, I can see them being sold , the monies going to the society -but we paid for the renos of course, a new larger hall being built at our expense for the 3 congs which again, we will have to pay for and have the societys name on the deed, and travel farther to get to the new hall... Just waitin.. as we were hit the other night with more renos to come after we just remodeled a few years ago... I am not giving anything...

Can the Borg close down a Kingdom Hall because of low attendance?
by Heartofaboy inthe land for our hall was given to the congregation by a local brother.. the contribution box was overflowing with gifts of money from the brothers & sisters in the congregation when they knew we were going to have our 'own' hall at last.. we built it ourselves with help from brothers & sisters that donated their time & skills.
we had a small loan from the borg to help us finish the project & this was paid off very quickly.. that must be 25 years ago now.. we were told by circuit overseers we would be blessed if we had our own hall & that the fine witness would bring many people in to the 'truth'.. it didn't.. we were never a big congregation, however when attendance went down to below 30 a couple of years ago, the circuit overseers wanted to close the hall down.. the elders protested & the hall is still being used.. can the borg close down a kingdom hall they haven't built & keep the proceeds?.
why doesn't it belong to the people that paid for it?.

Maybe this has been covered but you said she kicked you out of the house? How did that happen? In Canada that would be desertion even under stressful conditions. She may need the house for the kids, but you are the bread winner I would suspect and is your name on the mortage?
Do you support her and the kids monetarily, and keeping the mortgage up to date.. Did you visit the lawyer and get a court date to prove you are supporting her and the kids and you want visitation 50/50? Does she work too? If so you have as much right to the kids as she does. You have not committed a crime against the kids, only left your faith system... in the eyes of the law, I dont think they recognize that, or should not as the state and religion should not mix..

My new worries about my mom-Suicide?
by JWdaughter ini love my jw mom.
we have had issues and struggles, but she loves me, i love her and we tolerate a lot of things we differ about because of that love.. you may remember my dad died a little over 11 years ago, and my mom took to a lot of drinking and she was very depressed.
i thought she would just die of despair or drink herself dead or drive drunk.. she has calmed down on the depression and i i know she still drinks too much, but i think it is a little more ocntained.

JWDaughter:
Dont despair too early. Over the time since your dad died, there has been a great change in how they are treating lung cancer.
I personally have an aunt who had her left lung operated on and that was 7 years ago, she is still with us, her oxygen levels are less but she stills shops, enjoys company, good food...the lung was removed.
ANother cousin again had his lung removed.. he has gone on to up north, returned home, working, that was 8 years ago
So its not all bad, just the shock, something like PTSD -- tell mom to look at all avenues and not to worry about the biopsy... it is uncomfortable but they have to know what type it is to treat it... time have changed dramatically in the cancer field. Her actions right now could probably be due to the fact she is so depressed, she will need some help thru that -the dr should be giving her something to help her but not in a great quantity, should she really want to commit suicide. Probably 10 pills every 10 days or so..

In one of the dramas I think it was this year -- my memory is not too good as I dont listen half time but during the Family study portion a sister was wearing slacks, pants, whatever which kind of took me back.. apparently its ok then, but not for the meetings where we are to show respect?? I dont really mind that as it is a time to dress up and use clothes I dont normally use - mostly I am in slacks, shorts, etc... so when I get a chance to doll up, thats what I do anyway and NO you cant win this one -- harken back to recent WT's where the mom is in an apron in the kitchen.... make me gag and then another pict where the father is studying with their two boys and she again is in the background, in the kitchen with an apron on-- I thought that was representing a Family study - yet the mother was not in the study???
There is no bending on this as far as I can see... its a shame, she should just go as an interested person, yet down the road things will definitely change...
Lonliness can cause a lot of heartache and as you get older, there is no one to turn too... even if she came back, she would still be alone, even if she wore a skirt... a single woman without a man on her arm is just not " worthy" unless she has pioneered all her life... Thats the facts. Just ask any single mother, widow, woman...

Is Today's Jehovah's Witness Religion The Same As It Was When You Were A Member?
by minimus inin my day, you were proud to be a jw!
you knew you'd get "persecution" and it was all good.
when you abstained from blood, you read the ingredients of a candy bar!

Altho I am not commenting much, I have to totally agree with Balsamass and Ynot to the point of tears almost. They have touched on a lot of points re changes.
Those were the days when you visited on sundays for lunch or dinners with folks, sat around the table and openly discussed various points of the talk or the tower and didn't have any fear of someone looking sideways to lable you as spiritually sick or humm, close to apostate material.
The assemblies with the meals, everyone pitching in and having a great time, trucking in the portable kitchen materials, servers - yes, it was a lot of work and they used the excuse to get rid of it all so we could all sit in the auditoriums and hear the programs. This at the time they always had speakers placed accordingly to all to hear, kitchen prep- areas... We all knew it was a massive effort but hey, the US Army would visit just to see how good JW's were at feeding thousands in 2 hours!!! At least we set some examples...and there was good fun doing it!
there were the picnics by a lake where the kids had a good time with their parents - forget the technology - visits all the time by everyone, seems like today, no one gets a call unless they are away from meetings for months.. could be dead by that time- nowadays, its get togethers at wedding and funerals...
I was proud to be a JW, and for that paid with most of my family as they were not in the truth, now they are gone and we are standing on an island waiting..... for the next shoe to drop- for more changes to be made, for what some men in NY will direct who have taken the place of Jesus and made themselves our mediator cause we are not of the world that Jesus said he was dying for...to know that the word generation means there could be no end to this system in our time, yet be told that its "here" --"just around the corner"- I am not a doubter that something is coming, and soon it will be 100 years in earthtime that Jesus is supposed to have been ruling from the heavens - a date that was bumped up from 1874 when his rule was to have begun -- but I truly believe that as the world continues to hang on by its fingertips, it could be a long time yet
The perceived stability is gone and replaced with unknowing instability that borders on insanity- and when you throw in a belief system with it, we are still captured
Oh there is so much more but it has all been beaten to death -the only thing is it is good to get it off your chest once in awhile..
