The one exception I'd say to your point about "10s with 10s, etc" is in the case of money. Frequently women that are 10s will marry/reproduce with men that are, at most, a 4 but have a ton of money.

I'm not saying all women are like this, but enough of them are that it needs to be factored in. Of course, this could easily be explained in evolutionary terms of needed a provider while they are pregnant.

I've seen stats that claim as many as 1 in 10 children are not related to their "dad" and that they are the product of one of your illicit meetings with an alpha male. I have no idea how accurate that is, but DNA testing should be standard on all live births IMO.

i was reading in the queer as folk thread and it was mentioned about how women can be oppressed sexually.

well this play is about how women should not be oppressed and how we should be comfortable with all parts of our bodies.

i recommend that every woman see this play.

I think that the double standard is as much from women as from men. I know way more women that talk shit about other women, than men. Hardly ever do I hear a guy say that some woman is a slut, or if he does it doesn't really mean anything very negative, just that she likes to have sex. However, when a woman calls another woman a slut it's usually much more hateful than when a man does it and the women means to slander the person she is talking about.

This could in part be the crowds I run in, I don't hang out with fundy types and most of my friends tend to be fairly progressive about sex (they have no problem with gays, they don't mind sexually aggressive women, etc).

Heh. No, we're very open about this sort of thing. We don't actually do anything about it, but admitting that marriages sometimes take work to keep going is not bad. I mean, if we were biologically programmed to mate for life we would.

There are several biological items that make me believe that we are not "supposed" to pair up for life. These include

Three kinds of sperm, one that actively seeks out and kills sperm that is from a different donor than itself
High divorce rate. Were we genetically programmed to be lifelong partners, there would be no divorces.
Lifespan. We live way longer than nature needs us for reproduction and therefore tend to "outlive" relationships.

Had a conversation with the wife about this last night as a matter of fact.

LOL, Spidey-sense. I totally have it. It's pretty easy to spot them if you have been one I think, especially when they are just getting done with service (about when I'm in town having my lunch).

Spotted an Awake on a co-worker's desk the other day, it didn't have the tell tale "three-fold" look (that they get when they are mailed) to it so I'm not sure if he's a witness or not, but I've been trying to test my JWDar and on him.

Do they even mail the mags out anymore? I used to remeber in the hall it was a mark of shame if you didn't have a thrice-folded magazine, it meant you really weren't studying. What a joke!

just curious...after a long discussion with my mother on her 34 year career as a faithful jw, i asked her how many people she brought in, not counting my sister, myself, my father?

4 in 34 years.

since i started going door to door at age 5 until age 18, i never had a bible study with anyone.

That's the thing I noticed, whenever I talked to someone at the door that was really into it they always knew the bible better than I did. I generally felt pretty stupid trying to talk to them about it when it was clear they knew it better than me. Of course at the time I had convinced myself that I still knew "the Truth" while they were blinded by Satan blah blah blah you know how it goes when we justify something to ourselves.

Now that I'm out I can see that they actually did read the bible, I just read the Watchtower.

What things are pagan in origin?

i read someone's commment about the pagan origins of pretzels, which i didn't know.

i'd like to share with my kids other items or customs that are also pagan in origin, like wedding rings and the wedding cake.

i want them to see that christmas isn't the only tradition with roots in pagan religion that have changed meaning over the years.. any others out there?

so is it pagan to not celebrate Christ?

The pagan weren't celebrating Christ, then again neither is a Christmas tree, Frosty the Snowman or just about anything else that is done at Christmas.

Humans have had mid-winter and winter-solstice celebrations for a lot longer than Christianity has been around.

who live in the western caprivi area of namibia had the oldest 'male lines' in the world(119,000 years approxiametly).. compare that to the approxiametly 6,000 years claimed by watchtower!.

Heh, I was just in a discussion with a Christian that was upset that Christmas had been "hijacked by the liberals" and was losing its true meaning. I pointed out that Christmas had been hijacked by the Christians already, and that the pagans must be saying the same thing he was.

Guess I did learn something usefull in the Hall after all.
