  What are some of the 'good' things you learned during and after being a Jehovah's Witness?

  my problems with the wtbs have always been their doctrine and their absolute control of the rank and file, not the principles that they and most mainstream religions teach.

  i grew up in a predominantly black urban metropolitan area that had a high crime rate and drug usage.

  when i go back to my old neighborhood, i always hear about how some of my peers are drug addicts, incarcerated or dead.

  I learned from my good friends on the old JWD that Crisis of Conscience was a good book. I picked up a hard copy of an older edition at the Used book store for only $6. I have ordered one on Amazon in the soft cover. I am still learning how to make real friends that you can trust. I am also looking forward to making some contacts with some older friends. I will find out what is important in life to me. In the dubs learned some things about the bible that really don't matter. Need to take a look at that book again someday. Wonder how long I will live? Will I have cake at my birthday this year? Those are the things I learned to think about now.

  i don't know the talk # but the most boring talk title ever had to be "who are qualified as ministers of god?".

  next came "parents - are you building with fire-resistant materials".

  There were at least four ugly houses in the paintings. I would think there should be more than that. I never believed we would live like this, I would miss the city, the Wal-Mart, and entertainment besides the Kidding Melodies. I need to barf.

  Prince Valiant ?

  picked up the comics off the coffee table this afternoon and "prince valient " caught my eye.. does anyone follow this comic strip?.

  what's with this story line?.

  too long have val....been far from camelot...... val's first business is to announce a wonderous envoy.... ...while nathan & gawain introduce nudder,bup,& ig to a group of leery knights.

  I love the comics. I have been familiar with Prince Valiant since I was too little to read. My mom would read it to me and my sister. Not sure what is going on now with the weed guys. Don't remember anything like this before happening but then there have been many adventures at sea. Many narrow escapes and all kinds of mishaps with his wife, kids, and buds.

  Building new friendships

  on the thread about 'moving on after leaving the witnesses', it brought to mind how hard it is to build new friendships .. for me i have been out for a little over three years .

  i knew before i quit that it would be important to fill the void that would be left when old "friends" began dropping us .

  lucky for me i worked with some very fun out going people at my job .

  As I have said before I have joined up with local Meet ups.com online. I belong to a Dining out group that does all kinds of fun things. I joined a green movement group that has environmental things as well as hikes. Sierra Club and a polical group that helped me get involved with the local elections as well as the Presidential. You can meet lots of people at these events. Even, my divorce support group is good now everyone wants to come to my meet ups. We are going to a movie & lunch this Sunday, sure beats going to meeting then in field circus.

  "Gift" Of Singleness?

  this has to be the biggest piece of s*** i have heard of within the religion.

  the last i know, they called marriage a "gift" from god, itself stupid.

  if you are not married, you are single--and they are calling that a "gift" too?

  Even though I am not married now, I do know how to be married. I believe it was a gift for many years. It takes two people who love each other and want to be together. I don't consider being single a gift. My marriage was taken from me by divorce. How am I to be happy with that? I wonder if I will ever get to the point when I can look at it as a gift of singleness. Wizard I am with you on this one! Either marriage is a gift or singleness the gift. You are to be content with you situation, hope one day I will stop being sad. Haven't gotten there this week, yet but still working on it. Having fun finding out who I am and what I want out of life. Still pissed off sometimes but then, it hasn't even been a year yet. Would like to find someone to grow old with, too.

  hi im from italy.

  im new here i would like know new friends.. my english is very poor.. but few few i read and understand.. i have discovered a lot of things that i was in the dark on wts.. i am reading book crisis of conscience.

  if someone recommends me to read anything other in italian language i will be very happy.. i was jw after ex jw and now are jw , have come back because my children and wife are jw and friends of my children are all wj.. so hard left all.

  Keep you eyes open at meetings, too. You will see things that you didn't notice before going on. I can see you are trying to with your family to stay in for them. That is difficult we feel your pain. Let us know how it is going.
