just thinking back on my own family that started with the jws in the early 50's, .
both of my parents came from different religious backgrounds one was catholic and the other a anglican.. what probably sparked my mother's attention, who was the first to be in contact with a jws, .
was of course the destruction of the system of things and a new paradise for those that god approved.. and i'm guessing that this what catches most peoples attention just as it did to my mother.. i'm also assuming that this is most likely what grabs other people as well.......any comments ?.
I guess I fall into the hippie catagory, since the dubs seemed to be outside the other churches. It was radical enough to believe in God without believing the traditional religious beliefs and no rituals. Hated giving up drugs. Had all ready quit smoking cigs but weed was difficult to leave. Missed it. The things you do for paradise that never came! Remember it is still just around the corner!

near the end of my marriage to a jw husband, choking me was his favorite form of recreation and my worst form of terror.
although i left 20 years ago, this article really shook me.
Sweet Jamie, it is so brave of you to tell your story. I never had to face anything like this while I was married but have heard from many friends about the abuse they put up with from dub husbands. I think the worst thing is that the elders don't believe you when you tell them. They just stick their heads in the sand and df you! That is so wrong. Glad you are here with us, I know you are doing better now, huh?

im new here i would like know new friends.. my english is very poor.. but few few i read and understand.. i have discovered a lot of things that i was in the dark on wts.. i am reading book crisis of conscience.
if someone recommends me to read anything other in italian language i will be very happy.. i was jw after ex jw and now are jw , have come back because my children and wife are jw and friends of my children are all wj.. so hard left all.
Welcome Marco, my last name is Italian but I don't tell anyone that on here. We hope you continue to post don't worry about us understanding you we all are just trying our best to get along. Are you going to meetings now? I stopped in 2005 right about this time before the memorial. No family that are jw's. That is different with you. Ray's book Crisis is wonderful. We all thank him for that.

i was methodist.
i was horrified when attending my first jw meeting and hearing the simple piano music over the speakers ... compared to the live orchestra performed at the methodist church.
Sacolton, I was also a Methodist. I can still remember writing the little church I went to as a child and asking them to take my name off their role book. Isn't that wild? Do you still believe in an Almighty? I do and I am trying hard to keep that.

The Fox & the Hound was lots of fun. 25 showed up many new ones for the first time so they got a real treat. They had 23 oz. beers. The pool tables were on fire. Made some new friends hope they come to the next ones, too. We must have a meet up at this place again. It was great! Still ready to take the trip LouBelle those leftovers sound so tasty!

knowing what you know now, are you embarrassed that you ever believed in the jehovah's witness religion?.
The whole package of paradise on earth, knowing what the outcome of the final war would be, the feeling you were serving a loving Father, the love bombing of the people when you are new...it really turns my stomach I can remember all of this when I think about it. I wish I had never gotten baptized. I had many doubts in the beginning but they would always talk me back into it. We felt like we were doing something special. I was so sucked in by the cult. Then, I was a hippie and wanted to find a place to fit in since it was all going away with people getting into the hard drugs and really losing it.
