My JW gf and her friends/family

so i've been going out with a jw awhile now, and it's gotten to the point where she would be willing to 'convert'/switch to my religion.

the only problem is that she says she doesn't want to lose her friends/family.

the big one is her family since she lives with her mother/sister who are both jw and she doesn't want them 'shun' her.

I really don't know what to say to her about this. If anyone can help me, thanks.

PS. She has around 20+ other family in the area that is Catholic. It's only her, her sister, and mother.

I'm back again..We've been hanging out more and more, and she says the only that's really stopping her is that she's going to lose all her friends and her mother and sister won't be able to talk to her anymore since she was baptized as a JW. Is there anything I can tell her to try and convince her? I've tried telling her that there's always going to be more to people to meet, but the problem is with her sister and mother which she lives with.

Any help? thanks!

How do you two manage to advance your relationship with such a major language barrier?

It was more just because of all the specific words used in bible that she and I never use in normal conversations. We usually get along fine with no problems, other than here and there where we usually figure out what we're trying to say.

Alright, I'm back.

It wasn't very successful. There was a 'major' language barrier between us yesterday that didn't help at all. I knew what I wanted to say, I just didn't know how to say what I wanted in Spanish. I wish she knew more English or I knew more Spanish. But she says she's going to have a friend (who's not a JW) to help translate between us so we can figure it all out.'

I guess I'll have more time to do some research because of this, too. Also, if anyone can suggest some Spanish websites/books, that'd be great! Thanks for the help.

Thanks for all the responses. I didn't think I'd be getting as many as there are. I've been reading through all the responses and doing some research. I do want to know some examples of things to talk/question about, though. Obviously some of their history and their failed 'predictions' and such, but what else? Anything really specific or more general I need to go into?

Also, are there any good Spanish websites/books relating to the JW's? She's Spanish and can't read English very well, and I can't read Spanish that great right now (in school for it though!).

If she is open to researching the faith, provide her with the books Crisis of Conscience and In Search of Christian Freedom by Raymond Franz. It just doesn't get better than those books. You can even get them as e-books at CommentaryPress.com.

Since I'm going to be talking to her tomorrow about it (most likely), I just bought the ebook and have been skimming through it, and from what I've read it's pretty great. Thanks!

You don't mention how old you are, so I'm not sure what your situation is, although you do say your friend is living with her mom. Are you both teenagers, or adults? Is she baptized? The best way to proceed will vary somewhat, depending on your individual circumstances.

I'm 20, and she's 22. She seems more controlled by her sister than anything (who's 27) since she makes all the decisions of the house. I think that's more a cultural thing, though, even though I've been trying to convince her that she should be making her own decisions about living life, etc. Also she's not been baptized as a JW. She said she was baptized as a baby when she was Catholic, though.

I do have a question, though. Since the only people in her family are her, her sister, and her mother, why do they not 'shun' the rest of their family for not being JW's? For example, they all get together almost every weekend for big family stuff, usually involving 20+ people total and always talk to each other and have fun while being two different religions (Catholic, JW). Just wondering.

I've been 'going out' with a beautiful girl and we have a great time together. We have a lot of similar interests and always have stuff to talk/do. The problem is that she's a JW, and I know there is no way I'm going to become a JW. I've already told her that. She's been a JW for 3 years, and lives with her mom and sister who are also JW. No one else in her family is.
We talk a lot about the differences in our religion/beliefs, but she always comes up with an excuse of how I 'could' be wrong and I can never have a counter-argument against her. And if I do, it's pretty weak. Example: I've been researching a lot on the internet about the JW. She says that anyone could write stuff on the internet that's a lie. Example: The books I read about JW. She asks who wrote it, and how do I if know it's really true.
Right now, she's confused about what she wants to do. Be with me or stay with her religion. Now, I need your help. In a few days, she's agreed to look at some of the info I've been looking at, and comparing my bible against hers to see what's different. I want to know some of the more important things to show her and try and explain to her how it's wrong. Thanks
