Stacy, thank you for that candid look at Oompa. I have a very dear friend also that is mentally ill, and I KNOW the time and love and patience it takes to have such a friendship. I'm sure you gave him everything in your power to give and it's comforting to me to know that he did indeed have friends in the flesh who cared so much about him. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Stories you've heard from what makes one believe they are 'anointed'.
by EndofMysteries init's funny, how the bible describes it is far different from those i had spoken with or heard about.
let's all start listing the many different stories.
i'll start.

One elderly man who had been "anointed" for years explained, "It's just like how you know if you're a boy or if you're a girl!"
Somehow, that didn't clear things up for me...

New sad song: 0940 Our Spiritual Mother
by 9.40am inyou might like our new song on you tube titled '0940 our spiritual mother' about the experience her 'children' have had as jehovah's witnesses.
it's a reworded version of mother (pink floyd) set to new and historic watchtower images.. some who've already seen it have been kind enough to describe it as 'incredibly sad', 'powerful' and even 'poignant'.

Thought Reform and the Psychology of the 'Safeguard Your Heart!' 2012 Convention
by breakfast of champions into make attendance at my second district convention "mentally out" both a little more bearable and meaningful, i decided to take some notes of key points as if i were an outsider studying the thought reform methods of jehovah's witnesses.
at first, i was only going to share these notes with my therapist, but inspired by the "parsing the watchtower double-speak" thread, i figured i would share my amateur analysis with everyone.
here are some of the highlights:.

Brilliant definition, figurative heart=self-concept. Thank you very much for that!

Sleep Paralysis
by NewChapter inthis subject has come up on several different threads, and i thought it might make an interesting topic.
i've experienced sleep paralysis since i was quite little, but didn't know what it was until i was in my 30's.
since this is often mistaken for demons or alien visits, it sometimes soothes people to know that others experience it and there is a scientific explanation.. when it happens, it is extremely real.

Berengaria, not sure if it's the same as night terrors. One of my daughters had night terrors as a young child, but she would have no recollection of them at all the next day—not even of having had a bad dream. This sleep paralysis seems to be something people recall quite vividly, sometimes for years after.

I experienced this quite a lot when I was an older teenager. I'd come home from work and/or pioneering in the afternoon and be so exhausted I just had to sleep for a while. It would always happen during these nap times. I'd come to consciousness, but couldn't open my eyes or move or breathe. I felt like if I didn't open my eyes or move in some way I was going to die...literally. I'd have to summon up every ounce of strength and force my eyes open. The feeling would be gone instantly, but sometimes I'd fall back to sleep (probably never really woke up at all!) and the whole cycle would start over. I've also had teeth grinding problems, and dreaming that my top front teeth were locked behind the bottom teeth and I couldn't resist the urge to keep pushing until I thought I was going to break them. But I experienced those dreams as a separate issue from the sleep paralysis. For some reason, I never thought it was demons, and never experienced a "presence". I'm sure I would have been freaked out of my mind if I had!

The THIRST for the Totalitarian......for ALL
by Terry intotal anything is everything.. total control of you is totalitarianism.
it controls everything about you.. .
why do some crave to be thus controlled?

Excellent post Terry. "When men who judge you cannot be judged the problem consumes all." This is one reason many of us feel a sense of exhileration when the legal system investigates any part of the organization. It's the one entity that they still must answer to, and hope springs eternal that they'll finally be judged as they themselves judge.
