  so as not to hijack another thread i decided that a thread on culture could be useful.

  i'd like to provide a safe place for people to talk about cultural norms or abnormals.

  you don't want to learn that you've done or said the wrong thing by gettin' a fist in the face, know what i'm saying?.

  I'm so glad you quoted the Apostle Paul on this one. Then look how you ended it with your words afterwards. Just because you can say the "N" word and think others (non-black) can't, doesn't mean you should.

  Now lets look at something else the Apostle Paul said in Romans 2:21,22 and see if we can apply it to this situation;

  do you, however, the one teaching someone else, not teach yourself? You, the one preaching “Do not steal,” do you steal? You, the one saying “Do not commit adultery,” do you commit adultery?

  Now lets use this same principle that Paul stated here and apply it to this situation. Do you the one saying to others do not use "the N word," do you use the N word?

  Imagine going near a woman who said she hated being called a bitch and saying she felt that word was very repulsive and offensive and yet the next day you overhear her calling another woman a bitch. Or maybe she refers to her girlfriends she hangs with as her fellow bitches in jest. Would you think the word really bothered her that much? Would you think she was being hypocritical?

  1. Bullshit....thats like telling your kids not to cuss/obscene language then cussing like a sailor. The word Hypocrite springs to mind here.

  Chris Rock doesn't impress me in the slightest , so I won't be taking any cues from him on what is appropriate or not.

  If you don't want others to use a word then do the world a favor...don't use them yourself...even in jest.

  2.Don't touch anybodies hair; black,white,hispanic, etc. without asking. Could get your fingers broke by any of them.

  3.Seems like common courtesy not to mess with anyones food....do you assume white folks love to poke in each others food?

  4.Most monkey references on this board seem to be to Shamus..with his kiss the monkey and other such stuff.

  NOTE: I have no clue what the thread is and haven't read it yet so might be out on a limb here but when I first read this opening post it hit me the wrong way. I'm sick of all these people trying to tell others what they can and can not say or do or think.

  I left my parents a long time back and don't need no one else trying to fill their shoes....my RANT for the day.

  You're going to give those Elder's a heart attack trying to figure out what to do with you. LOL

  Surely you jest with this comparison. Paul was automatically born as a Roman citizen. No different than me being born in the U.S.A. and automatically being a citizen. The WT Society wasn't born into the NGO/U.N. They willingly chose it and had to sign the documentation to be approved.

  If you consider yourself a debator(debater)you have to know that you would be laughed off the stage/platform for trying to draw that parallel.

  One doesn't require any action at all to be a part, while the other takes significant effort and a willingness to be part of.

  If you're not sure of Paul being born as a Roman citizen then check out Acts 22:28

  i have just seen the hottest girl ever on facebook and turns out she's a jw.

  i swear i'm so close to make a temporary return just to have a chance with this girl.

  due to privacy i won't link her picture, but all i can cay is ddddaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  I say go for it Blue Grass.

  I see this as a win/win situation. If she is as "hot" as you say, then no doubt many others are already trying to sweep her off of her feet.

  If for some reason you are able to pass all these others up and work to the head of the line, that in and of itself is one win.

  Then if you work real hard for the organization,enough to garner her attention/affection to agree to marry you then chalk one more up on the win column. No longer a 24 year virgin.

  Then as time marches on, in a few years her looks might not be as stunning as they once were and you have gotten older and realized you gave some of the best years of your life to the organization. But hey you at least scored with a real beauty.

  Then as more time passes maybe you two have some kids. No birthday parties, X-mas presents, getting to hang out with other kids like them at the school football games etc. But hey a lot of witness kids have to endure that so what, right. Who cares about the emotional and mental trauma this may cause the kids. Cause you know why? It don't matter you scored with their mother when she was a real hottie.

  Then after many years on down the road when your kids grow up and are pioneering instead of going to college like other kids their age, and still telling people of the world how close we are to the end, your wife can have a big beaming smile knowing they are pleasing Jah and not just selling books and gathering money for the org.

  Then much later, when and if you get tired of all the Pro-WT,Pro-Organization hoopla, you can always come back to a forum like this and tell them something similar to what sd-7 is telling you now. That would be a win for the board at the time because many of us will by that time have moved on with our lives or have died by then. So maybe some will listen to your tale at that time but others will not. Still it will be an interesting story for the ones who read it.

  Remember it is better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all.

  But....count the cost ahead of time and think if you are willing to pay the price that will affect your family. That is if you can't show her the errors of her ways.

  Anyways whatever your decision, wishing you the best.

  OK my son stumped me with a thought provoking question about the Oil spill and I would like your help to formulate an answer

  we had been talking about the massive oil spill and who all should be held accountable, when my son asked a question.

  that i had not given any consideration to.. he asked,"since all that oil was underground to begin with and offshore, what would have happened if there was no oil rig out there but yet a massive earthquake hit out there miles under the sea and oceanfloor, right where that oil deposit was located, and the earth opened a crack all the way up to the ocean above, what would happen to that oil?

  who would be responsible for the clean-up then?.

  Caedes that was a very impressive diagram in your link you provided. Kinda puts it in perspective of how far they are actually drilling in thousands of feet, compared to the highest mountains and lowest dwelling sea creatures as well as what depths the subs are capable of attaining.

  Thanks for that link. This has all proved very informative to me. I like to research, especially things I've never really gave much thought to in the past.

  Thank all of you for your responses so far.

  Black Sheep, it's funny you mentioned tectonic plates because thats the very thing my son was saying and focusing on.

  From what coffee_black posted above, it seems this is a naturally occuring thing with oil being sent into the ocean periodically.

  I enjoyed that article.

  Marvin I must not be understanding what you typed above correctly. Are you suggesting that Earthquakes don't ever leave cracks or holes behind? I understand the part about earthquakes moves ground.

  I will quote you then post some pics and tell me what you mean.
