And starting at 1:37 on that video above, now that I'm older I can see how some could say he was referring to something else other than a normal feline. I used to hear this song when I was younger and never caught that part. All I can say is WOW.

if you recall, i have shared with you that virtually every time i've gone through a fairly grueling "battle" for our lord... i receive a "reward".

The thing I'd like to focus on from the opening post is the Ellipsis (the ...) after 1 Tim.2:15 is partially quoted.

When you see that in a quote it means something was intentionally left out, sometimes changing the meaning of the original context by not appearing in complete form.

The Watchtower has done this many times and I always like to go back and read the original documentation if at all possible.

But getting back to the opening post lets look at why the reasoning that is given is not supported in the scriptures that are cited when read in complete form. I'm going to quote that one verse from a number of translations in its entirety to compare what is said to what is meant.

(In each case notice the qualifying word that I underline in each quote and notice how it applies to the over-all scripture)

1 Tim. 2:15 [New World Translation] However, she will be kept safe through childbearing, provided they continue in faith and love and sanctification along with soundness of mind.

1 Tim. 2:15 [New International Version] But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

1 Tim. 2:15 [King James Version] Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

1 Tim. 2:15[Young's Literal translation] and she shall be saved through the child-bearing, if they remain in faith, and love, and sanctification, with sobriety.

End of 1 Tim. 2:15 bible quotes.

So notice how it does go on in that scipture to qualify how the woman would be safe not just through the act of child-bearing as brought out in the opening post but it would be dependant on continuing in faith,love, holiness etc.

That is why I can't buy into the argument of what is initially presenting by AGuest in the opening post in this thread.

Her reference to Exodus chapter 21 is totally independent (and I see no correlation at all) of 1 Tim. 2:15 in that Exodus is talking about the "consequences" of what would befall someone that harmed a pregnant woman, and Timothy is dealing with not just pregnancy but the act of child-bearing and continuing on and remaining faithful etc.

Let's compare this to modern day. I'm going to make-up a scripture and you see how it changes by just leaving out the part where "if" is in the verse.

StoneWall 2:15 "And StoneWall decided to give AGuest one thousand dollars, if she traveled around the world two times by sailboat."

Now in view of that imaginary scripture, what if AGuest made the claim that StoneWall was going to give her $1000 dollars?

While not totally a false-hood, it would actually be misleading due to the fact that it is dependant on her satisfying the qualifying part of "if she traveled around the world two times by sailboat."

(because of jw's), then add 2012 (because of mayan calendar) you come to the date of 4926 c.e.. but bear with me just a bit cause this is not the "end" as of yet because we still have to factor in the mileage between miami and tampa.

So if you take the principle of a year for a mile and a mile for a year that would be another 273 years to tack onto the end.

So that would total 4926+273=5199 C.E.

I know this may be hard for some of you "unbelievers" to fathom but it all kind of makes sense if you squint your eyes at the date and rub your belly while drinking Bud Light. (or any beer that you can say gives you "New Light")

their publishing empire........,their millions of tracts,magazines ,books,bibles,pamphlets printed in hundreds of languages around the earth are a testament to their failed prophecy,expectations of things hoped for,their declaration that they alone are being used by god almighty to bring truth to every nation on earth as a witness of jehovah gods unfailing prophecys regarding this earth,which none have been fullfilled in over 125 years of such declarations.

because they have been so prolific in their publishing,congress of libraries,internet, encyclopeadias,etc.are all testament to what has been written by the wtb&ts in times past,and they have been weighed in the scales and found wanting,as far as anything they have predicted to coming true.. and their defence ?

Imagine using that kinda reasoning in a real courtroom!

He most certainly, "evidently" has to be innocent this time. (or telling the truth,or right or what have you)

To sustain the interest of today's TV saturated youths, comics have had all but to ignore their "codes" and give readers large doses of violence. One issue of Daredevil comics (about a blind superhero who wears a devil costume) was found to be violent in 53 percent of its panels

It would have been so interesting back then if one of the kids in the Kingdom Hall raised their hands and said," this comic about DareDevil and the violence in it reminds me SO much of the bible. Especially where like Samson had his eyes gored out or where David Slayed Goliath and then proceeded to decapitate him.
Wonder how much blood was around his head when he CHOPPED it off?"

1 Sam 17:51 [NWT] And David continued running and got to stand over the Phi·lis′tine. Then he took his sword and pulled it out of its sheath and definitely put him to death when he cut his head off with it. And the Phi·lis′tines got to see that their mighty one had died, and they took to flight.

Yep that sounds like a story I'd like to read to my kids every night before they went to sleep so they could have pleasant dreams...NOT!!!

I personally think the DareDevil comic in question would pale in comparison to that dandy violent story.

I really appreciate the responses to this verse and would like to say thanks yet I really feel most misunderstood what I was asking and the point I'm making.

Sure in this verse it could be argued that God changed his/her mind about destroying the Israelites on this occasion and in light of how it's worded that would be a valid concern.

But what I was really after is why did so many translations in this verse use the word "evil" in reference to what God was going to do, instead of other words like calamity,destruction etc.?

In other words as JW's we were taught that God=good and Satan=Evil. That this was all revolving around a battle between Good versus Evil.

Battle between the forces of Light versus the forces of darkness so to speak.

So if God doesn't do evil things, what prompted the word evil to be inserted in so many translations in this case?

Also if you go up a few preceding verses and read them, it seems Jehovah has reached a judgement(decision) as regards these unfaithful Israelites and yet Moses was able to get God to change his mind on his judgement call. What the heck is that about?

So Jehovah can reach a decision/judgement on his people, and HE is suppose to be perfect in all his ways and yet a mere imperfect mortal can cause him to change his "perfect" judgement. Something doesn't add up.
