I did my first Secret Santa all wrong. Waited too long to send it, didn't wrap it first, and it's not exactly what I wanted to send but I ran out of time because what I really wanted to find is rare and I just couldn't! I won't know if he got it unless he posts here either.
OH! Looks like he posted on the page prior! Yay!
St. Ann, were YOU my Secret Santa? Somehow I suspect you were, based on your card and what you posted here! THANK YOU!! I started a thread earlier that got buried, so I'll say it again, I LOVE IT!!!!!

Are you still considered an outcast because of your JW past?
by Quirky1 ineven though i no longer proclaim being a jw it seems to have tarnished my relationship with others, including family and even co-workers.
.
i feel as tho i am still treated differently than others..

I don't think I'm considered an outcast because of my JW past, because most don't know about it. But I definitely feel like I am an outcast because I don't really know how to behave, somehow. Maybe I'm not jaded enough, I think I come across as too naive and open, or who knows, maybe I'm still nosy, or bossy, or trusting, or maddeningly insecure, or child-like, or something. I don't really know. All I know is that I only have one close friend, and she's a bit of an outcast as well.

A cracker looks an awful lot like a giant Jolly Rancher, only not see-through.

Jehovah's Witnessees and the Truth vs the Lie
by AllTimeJeff inthere are several places on the internet where the hypocrisy of jehovah's witnesses is on full display.
what i am about to write is not new, but it is on my mind, so i thought i would write about it.
(disclaimer, i am an agnostic writing this, using the bible against jw lies.

It's always struck me as odd that people would have to be admonished to "keep a positive, spiritual view of what we read in our books, magazines, and other publications and of what we hear at our meetings and from the elders." Nobody EVER had to admonish me to "keep a positive view" of anything I learned in college. Most of it was supported so well with evidence that there was no reason to feel negatively towards it. Where something felt false, it was challenged with lively discussion.

Metro Sexual
by Sparkplug inso...i was speaking with a friend that is still in.
(long story) anyhow, he told me that there was an article against metro sexual males.
something along the lines of over adornment and too much primping.

The last JW teens I've seen looked like skateboarders in ill-fitting rumpled suits.

Going back to school. Need acceptance.
by Sparkplug inso i am trying to go back to college for my masters.
i had referrals, but due situations, i did not have any professional endorsements.
so finally after being told to update my references, i went back to the drawing board and found my dean from my bs degree.

My mom scolded me for being too "vain" when I was an emerging teenager, curling my hair and all. It really affected me, and I became the kind of person who doesn't really think much about how I look. Which is a bad thing.

Utopia, millenium, nationalism and socialism ...
by halcyon inthis timeline reveals prevalent thinking from the 1700s on, that sounds a lot like fertile ground for an apocalyptic, socialist religion to set roots in: .

Anyone have anything to add to this? This stuff fascinates me, especially 1700-1800 stuff. Where did we come from, etc. -

I can't believe what I did.
by reneeisorym inso yesterday i was watching the news and i saw something about secret santa.
there is this movement of people who hand random strangers $100 bills at places like laundry mats and thrift stores.
so i was "moved" and decided to give it a shot.

for heaven's sake ... I can just hear what the OP was thinking just before she did it ...
"Hmm. I heard this story about a good deed ... it makes me feel like doing the same thing ... There's a woman who looks like she could use $100 ... I have $100 ... naaah, I'm not going to do it. It's easier to just keep my money, heck I worked hard for it, why should I give it away to someone else when I don't even know how they'll spend it? Nobody is worthy enough to take MY money. I have to reserve judgement on how she'll use it, besides. What if she spends it wrongly? Gosh, no, I can't do it. ... Wait, no, but if I give this lady the $100, then think about all the people I can tell about what a good thing I did! And they will praise me, and laud me, and I will look SO good to all of them! Okay, I'll do it!"
Ya think?
NOT!
There's way too much judgment in this world. -

The first post was gibberish to some of us. Just a massive block of code. Thank you for clarifying. It was most enlightening to some of us newbies here.
