I could have written the first half of undercover's post. Unlike him, though, I spent a little time over a few nights (maybe weeks), then couldn't handle the fear and left. At that time I wasn't on "your" side ... I wasn't exactly on "their" side either (meaning, I wasn't one of those who would come here to argue) ... I was mostly just looking for a religion that had the same basic doctrine as JW (no trinity, etc) but without the parts I felt were wrong, like disfellowshipping. Never found it. But I was hoping someone on a site like this might be able to point me to that religion.
It was important to me to base my decision on FACTS, and to be able to tell my relatives, if they ever questioned me, that I had come to this conclusion on my own and was NOT influenced into it.
When I returned, this past summer, I had gone through half a decade of figuring my own mind out, and coming to peace with myself. So when I came here again, and started reading what y'all were saying, it utterly shocked me that the conclusions I had come to on my own were not unique. All of you have uttered exactly what I have thought.
So now, if I'm questioned, it may LOOK like I've been influenced by you, but I haven't.
I still tilt the computer screen away from the window, and put a password lock on my browser, and try to avoid leaving the computer with a JWD window up, though. *Just In Case* my computer is seen.

The Horrors of Resurrection
by cameo-d ini have always heard it said that satan has an imitation for everything the creator has in mind.
i hope there is a resurrection such as jesus proclaimed.
if not, then i will just cease to exist and that's ok. i do not want satan's jehovah's resurrection.

Sept '98 (I think) WT study article on "Do Not Put A Fence Around The Law."
The article bashed the Pharisees for things like making God's name unspeakable just in case someone was going to take it in vain, etc. It was basically all about how true religion doesn't need to put up "fences" in order to keep its members pure.
And I sat there with my jaw on the floor, thinking about ALLLLLL the "fences" that the WT puts up. "Don't even allow something to LOOK improper! Even if you're not sinning, don't get anywhere even close to looking like you're anywhere in the vicinity of sin, or you will face sanctions."
Can someone post that article? It's really hard to explain ... -

I can speak Photoshop but I know not what you speak of in those movies, as I have never seen them. And therefore would have no frame of reference on which pictures to put where.
Provide two pictures that you would like to combine, and I'll see what I can do ... but not until after 1 Jan .... -

Meetings: Are They Morons?
by metatron inso, the new arrangement for meetings includes a jam-packed ministry school/service meeting and book study that ends at 8:45pm in many halls - unless they go overtime!.
these geniuses tried to create a family night because they realize witness families are falling apart so they created an awfully long meeting instead that will often take place on a thursday night - just prior to friday when countless kids have tests in school scheduled!.
good for them!

I remember the intermissions! I remember when they ended, too. It was weird, and I missed them. Intermission felt (to a kid) just like lunch break at the assemblies. You got to stand up and walk around and talk to your friends! We were little cliques of tweenagers, as I remember. I would always sit back down for the Wt. study feeling refreshed enough to sit through another hour. When the intermissions went away, sure the meetings got shorter, but in a way they felt longer.

Jehovah's Witnessees and the Truth vs the Lie
by AllTimeJeff inthere are several places on the internet where the hypocrisy of jehovah's witnesses is on full display.
what i am about to write is not new, but it is on my mind, so i thought i would write about it.
(disclaimer, i am an agnostic writing this, using the bible against jw lies.

One of the first *really big* hypocritical things that caused me to step away from the org was the study of the Greatest Man book, when Pharisees were vilified for their "ridiculous regulations." I thought, uh, wait a minute....

This one is sooo obvious:
"You need to read MY literature, but I won't read yours."
"You must let me pray for you, but I will not let you pray for me." -

Why I suspect most people do not really believe in god
by Elsewhere ingrowing up as a jw i never really believed in god.
i thought everyone else didn't really believe either.
when some sort of religious activity or speak was going on i was just pretending and i thought everyone else was pretending too.

OP, you've obviously not seen a personal sex tape then ... (lol)
When I was older and decided to break nearly every "rule" just to get myself past the fear of the rules, I finally discovered the true consequences of my actions. It wasn't about other people catching me. It was about how I felt about myself inside. What a freeing (and sobering) discovery!
I fully believe in God though. I don't claim to understand what He is, but I surrender myself to Him, in the way a good-natured domestic house pet trusts its master. I take control of my daily life, but entrust that which is out of my control to Him. -

The Last Choice
by cameo-d inif you had to choose between wearing a magic dog collar that would allow you to live forever, or dying a natural death and perhaps having a hope of resurrection, what would you choose?.
here is the story.
please humor me and read before answering.. suppose you were told that all disease is caused by an electromagnetic imbalance.
