The first post was gibberish to some of us. Just a massive block of code. Thank you for clarifying. It was most enlightening to some of us newbies here.

i am sending my messenger, and he must clear up a way before me.

Name JW Things That You'd Like To Give a 1 Fingered Salute To
by minimus innow that we're mentally and spiritually out of the jehovah's witness darkness, what things would you like to say about the religion that you wished you had said long ago?.
a few of my complaints: .
the blood doctrine.

So much emphasis on the OT law (rather, the "pick-and-choose" parts of it). Jesus fulfilled it!
All the metaphorical classes and modern day fulfillments. UGH!!!!
The "duty" to mind other people's business. Feeling watched all the time. Living a shallow, surface life because it "looks good." Feeling like a perpetual child.
No meaningful celebrations! -

What happens to JWs who read horoscopes?
by cameo-d indo you think they secretly "peek" once in a while?.

I think I've got horoscopes kinda figured out. It seems the sun signs indicate something vague, like "communication," "rising," "secular," and the horoscope interpreters put some scenario together into story form that makes sense to them. like one might write, "you will get a positive review at work today." Another might say, "Be chatty with the person behind you at the store. You just might find you have something in common." And a third might say, "Be careful that your spiritual values don't slip to the background, as people around you will be preoccupied with secular gossip."
I find some more accurate than others, and by looking at horoscopes through the above understanding, find them overall to be pretty decent. Except for the one-liner newspaper ones. They're pretty much just a joke.
It also seems that I am just a bit ahead of my horoscope ... today's horoscope almost always describes something that happened yesterday. Which does me no good, really, but is highly entertaining.
I figure horoscopes have been around for millenia and haven't gone away, so there must be something to them. Are they inspired by demons? I'm not so sure. I guess I've come to the belief that there are natural forces around us that we simply cannot understand. -

How to (a) write a public talk and (b) write an Awake! article
by JimmyPage inevery public talk ever given goes like this.... pick a subject, whether it's "god's government or man's?
" or whatever.... open by talking about how bad world conditions are,.
go on about how bad morals today are,.

I used to write my son's talks. I used exactly that formula. Threw in a couple inspiring (read: heavy handed) "we should"s and "wouldn't we want to"s at the end, and got the kid an ovation SEVEN times!!!

If "the time left is reduced" ...
by halcyon in... and that was written 2000 years ago ... .
.
what possible meaningful value could that phrase have anymore?

I'm thinking, y'know, like they say the sun is going to burn out someday. So the time left (for the sun to stay burning) is reduced. BUT, does that affect me in my daily life?
When you think about it, everything dies or decays. The moment after something is created, the time left for that thing is reduced. -

I can't believe what I did.
by reneeisorym inso yesterday i was watching the news and i saw something about secret santa.
there is this movement of people who hand random strangers $100 bills at places like laundry mats and thrift stores.
so i was "moved" and decided to give it a shot.

As JWs we felt it was our "duty" to point out how others could do better.
I retch at the thought, now. Renee, there's nothing crazy about what you did. You have that feeling inside you because it's so different from how others act ... suppose you had cut her off in the parking lot, would you feel crazy inside? No, because that's such common behavior. Generosity is not so uncommon, It's just the Protestant ethic to keep one's good deeds to oneself. Gotta stay humble at all costs, y'know! So that's why the world seems so bad, because we trumpet all the bad deeds but keep the good deeds silent. -

secret santa thank you thread
by halcyon ini did my first secret santa all wrong ... didn't wrap the gift before sending it (duh!
but i'm not used to this kind of thing), and then waited too long before sending it so i got caught up in the mad pre-christmas-weekend rush to get things sent out, and then shipping cost more than the gift!
i'm so sorry to my recipient for not making it a little more ... "special" ... .
