what I've never understood is why animals die (Adamic death?) in the first place. It doesn't fit the format.

No Resurrection for Fluffy!
by cameo-d inone of the meanest stories put forth by watchtower psychos is telling children that their beloved pets will never come back resurrected.. not only must the child deal with the trauma of confronting death, the grief of losing a love, and the inability to reason why this happens.... but adults offer no real words of comfort and instead cause more psychological trauma by telling the kid that they can have a pet lion instead.. poor kid doesn't want a pet lion.
he wants fluffy back.
what kind of psych-ops crap is this?

Questions about video/audio recording of meetings
by DT ini was thinking it might be beneficial for people who are facing disfellowshipping or disassociation to get some kind of recording of the announcement that they are no longer one of jehovah's witnesses.
it could possibly be used as evidence in a lawsuit.
(i know that's next to impossible in the current legal climate, but that could change in the future.

I was at the DC today and the program opened with the announcement that recordings should only be made for personal use, not any sort of "mass market." I'm thinking unflattering youtube clips, but I still wonder about any recording made without everybody's consent. I've had people actually ask me before I've delivered a public talk whether it would be all right to record it.
But I don't think it could hurt anything to have in your possession the tape of your disfellowshipping, if for no other reason than to keep in your family album!

that's true, cameo. the spin that the fds puts on that is that is an indicator that Armageddon will not be fought in any physical location, but rather a spiritual and global one.

hi everybody and my story
by inbetween inas mentioned in my very first port here, i will now give my story and some thoughts i have so far.. i ve been lurking here for about a month, before i registered.
well, a few months ago something like that would be unthinkable for me.. i was raised as a jw, and serve currently as an elder in a congregation.
i have family, also jws.

inbetween, I can relate to your being in a tough place. And you're right about "making a list" to weigh out the pros and cons. I'm in pretty much the same place as you, the Witnesses do offer a decent way of life and some solid thinking on a good many biblical issues. On the flip side there is some real unreasonableness and hard-nosed positions that just don't hold up.
This has been a good place to go to get my balance. I'm still in, but with a few adjustments I think I could find my stride without the heavy hand of the Society involving itself in every facet of my life. Jehovah knows who each of us are, we do our best, we use our minds and really, what about those millions of people out there who are doing that WITHOUT the lockstep marching that we have to do with this organization? There is joy outside of the "truth," I feel certain. But we all have to sort it out for ourselves.
There are some good people here, some studious, some funny, some astute, some undecided, like you and I are. But how it can be WRONG to just listen, ask questions, and ponder the replies is beyond me...so here I am.
Welcome.

How many in your cong. became JW out of door-to-door preaching?
by Albert Einstein indoor to door is an essential way of preaching among jw, you cannot get baptized unles you join in door-to-door service, ..... but how many converts in your congregation in past 20 years came out of door-to-door preaching?
please deduct mentally handicaped and weirdos.. number for your congregation?.
mine could be 2, (mother with a teenage son), but they da shortly after baptism.. albert .

it really does seem like a waste of time. I know that there are other benefits, like association, "doing the right thing," being obedient to God. But really, does God want us to waste our precious time? Noah was a preacher of righteousness, right? AND he built the ark, like he had all of this time available?! Maybe just living by righteous principles IS a manner of preaching about it...without being preachy.
Maybe the fringe benefits are just "conditioning."

it stresses me to see that elders have become cops and task-masters rather than shepherds. As my name suggests, I'm still in, though, in large part because my wife is so dependant on her involvement with her religion. I have been involved, too...for more than 30 years! But a husband who cherishes divine law is what I vowed to be and I will try to be supportive for my wife and keep my end of the deal. I also have to keep my head screwed on straight. Filling it with one-sided propaganda will only blind a person, how much good will I be to her when she realizes the ugly truth behind this religion? I don't want to stumble her, but I want to catch her if she falls.
In the meantime, this site is exploding with interesting people who will actually say what they think. Now, THAT'S refreshing!
