It's funny you mention the "man in uniform" thing...

When he and I first met I didn't know he was military. Blame it on my JW upbringing...I was attracted to him due to his "clean cut, good boy" appearance. LOL A month into dating he pulled out his ID and I immediately noticed something was amiss. I snatched it from him, looked at it, and realized he was Navy. Before that he had only told me he "worked with computers". I guess it was well-known that most women didn't want to date the Navy boys in my town so he felt he needed to keep it from me...silly boy. Obviously, the rest is history. :D

i just thought i'd briefly introduce myself.

my name is april, i am a navy wife and mother of six children, will be 30 next month, and have been disfellowshipped for almost 12 years.

i was also reproved two years prior to that.

You all are so uplifting, it is like a breath of fresh air! I have had many wonderful people come into my life in the last 12 years but it means a little bit more coming from those who have actually been through and can understand what I have.

I'm glad I am liked here...I'm very friendly, open, and honest (sometimes too much so). Over the years I have taken the mentality that I do not wish to hide myself for fear of not being accepted. I will say who I am and if someone doesn't like it then they don't have to converse with me!

As for being too smart to fall for the teachings I was raised in...darn right! Once I reached the "age of reason", built enough self-esteem and righteous anger, and summoned up some guts I was OUT OF THERE!!! :D Didn't handle it in the best way but given what I was working with I'd say it could have been much worse.

Dawg, it took me SO long to realize the problem wasn't me, it was THEM (religious leaders and my believing parents)! Even now I struggle with low self-esteem, mostly when I'm interacting with my parents. They have taken everything I did after I left the religion (the drinking, drugs, sexual promiscuity, etc.) and tried to use it to prove that I am a horrible person and mother. The funny thing is, in raising my oldest daughter for the last 8 years they have changed SO MUCH...allowing her more independance, free-thinking, and the opportunity to be a CHILD...none of which I ever had. So if I'm the one doing everything wrong and they are so damn perfect then why did they change their child-raising techniques? Because they KNOW they were wrong and are using my child to try and correct the mistakes they made. :mad: Except in doing so they can't help but remain the control freaks they've always been. Thanks to their alternate approach to raising her, however, she has no problem seeing through them and recognizing that they are effed up. hahaha

One more thing I will mention (that I probably wouldn't if it weren't for my having a few drinks tonight). My story is a little longer than I originally expressed. It actually starts when I was around 13 months old and my Dad and natural mother separated/divorced. My mother left me with my father and he felt he could not fully take care of my brother and me by himself, so he enlisted the help of the state. We were both put in a foster home (same one) and remained there for 3 1/2 years. The foster father was a pedophile and suffice to say when I left the home to go back to my Dad at 4 1/2 years old I was no longer a virgin. By that time my Dad was already studying with JWs so I went from one mind-altering household to another. The combination was terrible and contributes to a lot of my during and post-JW actions. I admit with no regret that I have seen my share of therapists over the years...each has heard my story and stared at me in wonder at how calmly I can talk about my past and how unusually "normal" I have turned out after the fact. I guess I take a little pride in that. :)

Yay! I'm so glad everyone can see the pictures now. That only took half the evening...lol.

I actually really struggle with the energy issue as I have fibromyalgia. I make do, however, and certainly enjoy being surrounded by youthful energy. :D Given my medical condition my husband's military status is extra difficult for me, as he is gone a lot of the time. Thankfully this is about to change come September when he will have shore duty (not leaving) for at least the next three years. Hopefully he'll either get out or not have to go back to a ship after that! Here's a picture of our first Homecoming (of two)...he had been gone nearly seven months and missed the birth of our last child.

Banned from my sisters wedding

i'm feeling rejected and hurt because i've just been informed that i am not invited to my little sisters wedding.

first, here's a little background story on my relationship with her: she and i are three years apart.

when we were younger we were very close (i was in the "truth" back then).

I've seen some signers at conventions, still-fading, and like you said they always had the head covering. To RELAY information from the male speaker...are you KIDDING ME??? I was a pretty involved kid (or is that "kiss-ass" LOL) and led a few prayers in my day. I, also, was made to wear the head covering. :mad:

I am amazed at how deep the "don't talk to DFed people, including relatives" goes in people. After 12 years I recently started a "Tagged" account and accidentally invited all of the people in my Hotmail contacts list. Much to my surprise, WHO responds and opens his own account? My DAD!!! I was shocked, as this man (who I was really close to as a child) has not had more than a handful of conversations with me throughout the years, even though he himself hasn't attended KH (except for a few Memorials) since shortly after I left. He and my stepmom are still convinced I'm spawn of the Devil (wonder what that makes my Dad? LOL). Actually I think it's mostly my stepmom but he kisses her ass to keep the peace in his house. I get messages from him in the wee hours of the morning, now, when she's either sleeping or on her paper route. Pretty sad that a 52 year old man has to sneak talking to his own DAUGHTER.

Here's a picture of the witch and my Dad (who normally doesn't have a beard but grew one at the time because my oldest daughter wanted to see what he looked like).

Thank you Rose! I have one stepdaughter so technically that brings me to seven kids, but aside from paying child support we rarely hear about her. :( My oldest daughter's father has 6 children besides her and another one on the way so she has LOTS of siblings!

I bet things are hectic at your house, I know they are in mine and I only have five kids currently living with me!!!

AND since my post limit is close to being up I figured I'd post a couple more pictures...

Oh boy the stories I have...lol. All in good time! As for still being alive...I almost wasn't (already talked about that in another thread...I bled internally for two and a half days after my tubal ligation and ended up needing a blood transfusion and another surgery to save my life...the doctor told me if I'd gone to sleep that night I would not have woken up) but thankfully it all worked out. :D

Does the first picture show up??? I'll change the others if it does.

Billy, that whole "headship" thing used to burn me up even when I was a kid! I'd watch the headcovering practice with women and think, "What makes us less than MEN?" Don't get me wrong, I don't think women are better either...I think we're different but equally important and certainly good enough to lead a study or say a freaking prayer the same as any guy. :mad: I wanted to take the headcoverings and shove them down the Elders' throats! I was a secretly angry child...lol.
