The only reason that we know the name 'Timothy McVeigh'...
...is that he is/was...the outlier, not the rule.

I like the advice all or nothing and OTWO gave...
Leave behind the JW life and just see how much better life feels for both of you - without all the unnecessary stress.
Moving is a great opportunity to get out of the cult, either cold turkey or a rapid fade. Wish you the best and better, brighter days ahead. -

If the Gov. where you live outlawed the JWs would you turn in your family?
by blownaway ini guess it would depend for me.
some of my family i would take out bill boards pointing to them.
many of the elders it would be he is over there and set off a neon sign.

No, I could never directly cause a negative law enforcement encounter in such a paradigm.
In fact, I'd hope such a situation would cause my insane cult family to take a step back, and ease up on the strident cultiness.
If they stupidly persisted in their religious behaviour and caused their own law enforcement encounter - well, that's on them. I'd loathe living in such a society, anyways - and I would never rat and cause someone to lose their liberty for shitty reasons. -

Encouraging the nasty angels of our nature
by Lee Elder ini see stories like this one, and think we are losing our way as a nation.
reverting to tribalism and racism.
i wonder if its always been there lurking beneath the surface, and it just took someone to encourage it a bit.. https://edition.cnn.com/2018/06/26/us/woman-berates-man-viral-rant-don-lemon-cnntv/index.html?utm_medium=social&utm_content=2018-06-26t08%3a30%3a04&utm_term=link&utm_source=fbcnn.

Obama spent two decades of his life attending Jeremiah Wright's church where he railed on and on about how evil white people are.
And when questioned about it, said he never heard Wright's racially divisive message.
Went to the church for 20 years. Never heard it.
Very credible. Yes a paragon of virtue. The drone-striked Arab children agree.

'It's just ridiculous watching people take advantage'
Agree. And it's ridiculous to expect anything different. People respond to incentives. -

Are we losing our way a bit at JWN?
by nicolaou infirstly, i want to be crystal clear how grateful i am for jwn.
it's been my place of support for over seventeen years and it's the first online space i direct anyone to if they are taking steps out of the cult.
i am not bashing jwn - i love this place and appreciate the hard work and expense simon puts in to keep it going.

I think this board has been, and will continue to be a treasure.
I recall the politics getting heated after Obama was elected. Didn't mean too much then - good discussions were had, and I doubt that the heat over Trump will be different.
I think the connections we 'enjoy' via the JW experience, can serve to overwhelm any other frictions. Hope so, anyways. Love you all. And good job, Simon, et. al. -

Cult mentality is applying a spurious label to a source:
* Satan's world
* False religion
and then proceeding to discard all arguments from that source, based on the label. Kinda like you have done.
Hassan is indeed a recognized authority on cults. He is not infallible. Therefore, all his arguments are, and must continue to be, scrutinized for validity. This is the case with all rational, scientific endeavors. Name calling doesn't cut it.
You have been invited to watch the video, dispute the data and/or conclusions, and present your findings to this discussion board. I await your robust critique.
