Poor old fellow, I felt sorry for him, all shriveled up and bent over with arthritis....age 80 something.....but he had such a hard nosed personality, not a lovable old cuss at all, just an ol cuss....sad.
Anyway, back on topic.....wondered if any others remember the integration period and if your congo experienced any problems/tensions over it. oh yeah just remembered, the justification for not being integrated up to that point was "it might stumble someone"....i.e., local white people who would be upset having to sit in a KH with black people. Yeah that was still the way it was in the South of my childhood all thru the sixties....believe it or not.....ugh. And dubs in the South didnt question it at all.

The songs just went along with the teachings.....not much of a brainwashing effect I think.....because I never remember anyone singing them outside of meetings.
I only remember 2.....the one about the Shulammite maiden was the prettiest melody in the songbook....though of course by the time I got there, 1970, nobody knew what the hell a shulammite was.....think that was an "old light" teaching that was allowed to quietly dissipate, except for the words of the song.
Also remember the one about myriads on myriads of brothers.....was rather thrilling to sing at district assemblies when you could look over the stadium and literally see myriads of fellow dubs at one time and place.
OMG come to think of it.....dork me, I actually ordered the whole set of kingdom songs on LP.....and I must still have them somewhere in a box here with all my other old LPs.....no record player anymore to play them on....but too sentimental to just dump them all in the trash. The "worldly" albums I mean....not the KS!! lol

That's what I did, and nobody ever called or knocked on my door, the JC never came after me. But--it finally occurs to me after all these years--there was nothing to be gained by them coming after me with threats and penalties, etc.
Because I had no family in the borg at all. Thus, there was no one else they could CONTROL by beating me over the head.
I used to feel sorry for myself and wish i had a nice theocratic family like everybody else. Soooo glad I didn't now.....missed out on a lot of heartaches other people have had to go through when they left.

howdy all, i just happened to be in your neighborhood and thought i'd ring your doorbell to tell you the good news about jehovah's kingdom, and if you don't believe every damn word of it you're going to die a horrible death real soon m*th*rf*ck*r thought i'd say howdy.. like it says on my profile, i wasted my vulnerable teen years in the watchtower bible and crap society, and it nearly killed me.
funny thing is, i wasnt coerced into it by my family, they were all worldly (well except for a very eccentric old great uncle that nobody liked or visited) and thought i was out of my fucking mind to join up with that jw shit.. which i was.
understandably, because my parents drank too much, there were truly horrible fights every night at home, a very bitter divorce when i was 10, and only child me was trapped in the middle of all that with no one to turn to.
You are quite right Mouthy, there is a huge prejudice against "fat" people and i should have simply left the fat reference out of my remarks; and I apologize to anyone who felt offended.
It really is so stupid and so cruel how we all tend to marginalize people who look, think, act, different from us: thats the evil in our human nature, always wanting to feel superior to someone we can look down on; self-righteousness. The dubs are experts at that, but it's all over the place.
But I will say that at 200 lbs now, I too feel "fat" and in later years have occasionally been the subject of little stinging comments from coworkers. Which pisses me off big time, the sheer snobbery of it; but on the other hand its a bit humorous too, as I was always such a beanpole in my youth; now I look quite substantial! lol
