"So why do some athiests want to convert?" -
Wait!!, What!!
How exactly atheists do that?
Ismael
i am now an athiest myself, but i think being an athiest its a bit like having a faith.
some get very hooked on it and "preash" others (like me) simply get with with there lifes.
i am sure that some athiests like to have discussions about the non existence of " god" in a similar way that "thisists" do about the existence of god.

i first posted here on 3rd june 2008. at the time i was an elder, appointed the previous october, i was 36 and i was a born-in.
at the time i'd become disillusioned with the society due to the governing body's letter explaining why the book study in private homes was being abolished.
april 2008 saw me start questioning this decision, privately of course, and this eventually led me to this site, to jwfacts and to many youtube videos, all of which began to errode my faith in the leaders of the organisation.. in july 2008, having discussed my doubts with my wife, i attended the district convention, deciding to give the society one last chance to convince me it was the truth.
Thanks
matthew 20:28 - "just as the son of man came, not to be ministered to, but to minister and to give his life as a ransom in exchange of many".
the word "many" here means :.
4183 polys many (high in number); multitudinous, plenteous, "much"; "great" in amount (extent).. 4183 /polys ("much in number") emphasizes the quantity involved.
"700,000 BCE? Sapians? I doubt it.... Erectus was still ruling Asia 90,000 years ago." -HTBWC
That's a good catch, remember that evolution is the change in the inherited characteristics of biological populations over successive generations. Changes and features are decidedly undramatic because they differ so little from previous stages.
He mentioned human population, so I assumed modern humans and excluded humanoids. Fixing a time when the human race actually came into existence is very complicated. Various ancestors of Homo sapiens seem to have appeared at least as early as 700,000 B.C. Hominids walked the Earth as early as several million years ago.
The set of specific characteristics that define a "human" is a matter of definition, and it is open to debate which members of early Homo sapiens and earlier or related species of Homo
Modern Homo sapiens may have appeared about 50,000 B.C.
So, yes 700,000 B.C. is an honest estimate.

"Has any one else researched World Population figures, or the word "polýs"?" -
I don't know where you got those number, but it a lot of people. Human population have been calculated by anthropologist and geneticist for decades, thru the manifestation of inbreeding and it effects on population.
Humans evolved in groups, thru the interchange of genes. We can trace our ancestry back to one man and one woman, but they lived at different times and different places.
Human population expand according to the resources that are available to fuel the explanation. Millennia ago, Hunters/Gathers (that's us) has few population because the land couldn't support a large population.
With the invention of farming and agriculture, the population expanded because, the same land, supported more people.
You have to add the mass extinction events thru-out history that at some point, cripple the human population, at some point just 100,000 +/-.
I don't think that many people lived on earth over the past 7,000 years. Well, if you count the various ancestors of Homo sapiens that have appeared at least as early as 700,000 B.C., over 100 billion.
Respectfully,
Ismael

i am a middle-aged man with many decades of being a witness of jehovah god in england.. this important letter is personally to you, just as many of the bible's 88 letters are to be taken personal by you the reader.
i am writing to you to urge you to take stock of your life, think what your future holds for you.

"When Jehovah sentenced Adam and Eve to death,He said they would return to the dust.He did not say they would go to a place called "Hell" and be tormented for eternity. Death is being in the state you was before you were born..ie pitch black. No feelings. No sound. NOTHING.
Your Heavenly father Jehovah is a God of intense love: to help you see this, try to imagine." -
Isn't this a contradiction?

i wad thinking how certain quotes and sayings have such a positive effect on our life.
so i thought a quotes and sayings thread could be very inspirational.it would be nice if the saying or quote isn't origional to quote the author.. "not untill we are lost do we begin to understand ourselfs" henry david thoreau.. " better to never start, once started better finnish" the way of the peaceful warrior.. " health is wealth" source a friend once said.. .

1) take meds for your megalomania and delusions of grandeur.. .
suggestions welcome.. .

Both parties are free to restate their views as often as they like, silly beliefs will no doubt be ridiculed, but if you are going to hold silly, unprovable beliefs, which I equate to delusion, then expect derision, ridicule, lampooning etc for those beliefs, any "attack" is on those beliefs, not the person.
I would suggest, if anyone is so unsure that they cannot take their beliefs being held up to the spotlight, they keep them to themselves.
Yes and Yes.

when people willfully believe something without evidence, or contrary to evidence, are they neglecting thier moral responsibility?
so many people say faith is a virtue but i just can't comprehend why anyone would think that.

"How some have the results of 'discrediting Jesus of Nazareth' research seemingly 'on hand' and take such pains to 'prove' there was no God-man Jesus Christ - but still INSIST to others that He be absolutely maligned, insulted and ultimately rejected! Priceless." - abba
Sadly, it's because the apologetics bring the same arguments over and over again. Just look at my previous posts. These days I just copy/paste the replies either from my previous posts or my phone.
In addition, this is part of my personal research. As I stated before, I am an atheist, antitheis, not by choice.
One more thing, your logical fallacy is called, tu quoque. You avoided having to engage with criticism by turning it back on the accuser, you answered criticism with criticism.
I fail to see what bearing it has on the issues being debated. (Jesus historical evidence)
Can you please provide us with some good evidence.

"If Jesus of history existed -I think there probably is was a man behind the myth - then he was an itinerant preacher who was just another of many." -
This comment is very interesting. "early christians", the ones closest to the "critical mass event" never agreed to how/what, Yeshua was:
Ebionites were very Jewish Christians. They believed in 1 god, but, they believed Jesus was completely human and not divine. They also believe Paul was an arch heretic. http://ebionite.org/ – Claim to be modern Ebionites.
Marcionites were Gentiles who claimed Jewish practice was harmful for a relationship with god. They were followers or Marcion, a real person in the 2nd century. They believed in two gods, one Jewish and one Christian. They believed Jesus was completely divine and not human. They believed Paul was the one true apostle of Christ.
Marcion (a real person considered a heretic by Proto-Orthodox Christianity) created the 1st Christian NT Canon around 144 CE. It contained a version of the gospel of Luke and 10 of the 13 letters of Paul, namely Romans, 1st & 2nd Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1st & 2nd Thessalonians, and Philemon.
Gnostics Very spiritual and many widely varying subsets. Believed Jesus was a spirit and did not suffer, but only appeared to suffer. They believed in salvation through mysterious knowledge. This world is full of ignorance and suffering; salvation comes not by making it better but by escaping it.
