  Has anyone on this forum ever made a funny phonecall

  Hi there Badboy. I have made a few...im assuming your talking prank phone calls?

  Go back a few years to when i was about 13. Me and my buddy went on a tear of prank phone calls to amuse ourselves. We chose a family in our hall that we thought my fall for it and had some fun with it. The sister who answered was about 50 at the time, and thinking back to it still makes me laugh...

  We called and it was my turn to take this one. Putting on the deepest voice i could at the time, it went something like this.

  Ring Ring ring....

  Her: " Hello? "

  Me: : "Good afternoon maam, this is (insert name here) your local telephone company calling"

  Her : " Yes? "

  Me : " Maam, we are calling to let you know that locally, we are doing some work on your telephone lines. It is important to let you know, that in the event that your phone rings over the next hour or so, you should at all costs avoid answering it as our technicans run the risk of electrocution while exposed to working on the lines."

  Her : " Why yes, of course, thank you for calling."

  Me : "thank you maam and have a great day."

  So that was it, all set up. Now all we had to do was wait a few minutes. We waited and called back, letting it ring and ring. No answer. We carried on for I don't know how long, but to no avail. FINALLY, after a LOT of calling, and numerous rings over the span of about 20 minutes...

  Her : "HELLO?"

  Me : "ouch ouch ouch ahhhhhhh!"

  To this day I wonder why she never unplugged her phone from the wall...but boy did we have a good laugh at the time! We tried to call back for quite a while after that too, only to get busy signals. Made us laugh even harder thinking she must have called the telephone company. We never did get nailed for that one...lol

  do you know how big the ark was?

  maybe someone should try to bring 2 animals of each kind in the ark to see if it is possible.

  Dear Cameo. Perhaps you can bear with my ignorance in asking a question or two, especially considering that I really don't know you like others apparently do.

  Is this the way that you actually feel at present, or do you ask it trying to seek? I'm most curious about this. Does your heart match the likes of your head? You often come across as dismissive to me. You ask questions, and many of them. Some folks " not in the know" want to engage and sometimes it seems like your on a mission. Are you looking for answers? Perhaps better put, do you see yourself as a modern day "fisher of (wo)men"? I mean really, what's in a name? One definition of cameo is "A brief vivid portrayal or depiction". While you have many questions, you also have very strong opinions on some things. More often than not, you present your opinions WITH questions, all the while making your thoughts presented even more obscured to the average joe like myself.

  What GIVES JW's CONFIDENCE?

  all of us on this forum know that jw org is just another cultic group..... we all know how confident and sure they feel about their org being the only one recognised by god (jehovah).. can anyone tell us what's behind their arrogance?....holy spirit?

  ( well i know that will be their answer) i don't believe that because it can't be proven.. don't tell us it's jehovah...... what gives the gb so much power to deceive so many people?.

  sometimes i just wonder if maybe jw org is the truth, perhaps i should just swallow my pride and go to the elders and ask them to pray for me and get jehovah's forgiveness and undeserved kindness...... am i being naive or what?.

  GB Member. I'm asking you to please see through my ignorance here, and know that I am really asking this out of sincerity. Are you for real? Your posts that I have read in the past, seem to have been less than "wanting to know", and have been presented in a way that " you know already". Are you trolling, or are you conflicted? ( no offense meant at all )

  Nark- I appreciate the effort in commenting and trying to make sense of such things. I am beating around the bush a little bit with my question, and I never meant it to be in a metaphorical way whatsover.

  Have you ever heard of a "state" in which one can "communicate" with ones heart directly? Would it be enlightenment which could produce such an effect, if at all possible?

  i recently met a woman here at work (a contractor) and discovered she is an ex-jw.

  eventually we got around to telling why each of us left the religion.

  she said the main reason for her was not doctrines, but because she was tired of the physical and emotional abuse she received.

  I'm over it now, but imagine people who go through much worse things....it could take a lifetime and scars could still be left upon the victim's soul.

  I posted my experiences for lurkers and people thinking of joining the jws. Please get away while you still can!

  This thread and experiences related have moved me to want to comment. It's sad that so many can relate all too well to this thread. Rebel8 I can relate to many things you decide to share, thanks for that. I myself was a victim of a abuse at the hands of my father in particular, in some terribly sick ways. Humiliation IS the theme, subjection is the goal.

  Fark. You are very right. After all, you do have it all laid out in black and white, and there is no denying, discipline was encouraged and enforcement followed.

  I want to state for the record here, that I am not defending the borg with my following comments. I also don't want to make this thread about myself either, it's just a conclusion that I have drawn with regards the subject matter.

  Many of us are victims, and for that we have every right to express our dismay however we see fit. My old man beat me, and I refuse to "blame" the society for it. Its not strictly a "JW" thing, like the blood issue for example. While the subject matter presented by Farkel is blatently out of touch with today, I don't think it is way out of line for the 50's. Times have changed, and are changing, no matter what religion you are part of.

  Im not a dub, but my sister is. Just because she chooses to be a witness, does NOT mean she will beat her children. While I do not condone my fathers misgivings, I do forgive him. He was f@cked up, plain and simple. As hard as my family had it, I am sure that my father it it very hard in his family...perhaps i never got it as bad as he did. As bad as my father got it, perhaps HIS father got it even worse. I mean shit, even though the cult is a terrible place to be most of the time, I really think my father would or could have been worse. Maybe not, but my guts think so.

  One other thing that kinda put some things in perspective for me, fairly recently, was a movie. Changeling. Way back when, ADULTS didn't generally question authority, and that in time has changed. Things have taken a while, but they ARE working their way down the road...and sadly, that road has been harder and more enduring for some than others.

  If i DO blame the society for anything, it's for not letting people use their heads to actually THINK.

  I received a lot of spankings as a kid. In "hind" sight they were pretty dang pathetic. Grown up and looking back on them, they weren't right. It boils down to fear once again, like so many things in religion. "Genesis" spankings though, that is a really messed up concept. The terribly sad part here, is that the spankings were most likey a concept that were instilled in the parents, by someone else. The great news is that this girl stopped the cycle of abuse. Good on her. I wonder how her siblings dealt with it? Would ya know by chance Donny?
