i just read this in our local newspaper this morning and thought it is very interesting.
this law is aimed at door to door marketing by companies but i am wondering if this may end up including religious 'sales persons'.
the comments below the story are worth reading as jw's and religious callers are definitely who many people want stopped under this new law.. .

Here's some of the article:
ANNOYING door-to-door salespeople will soon be stopped from hounding householders.
Under new laws to take effect mid-year, a simple "Do Not Knock'' sticker will be enough to prevent marketers from entering a property and pestering the occupants. Salespeople who ignore the signs will face prosecution, a range of fines and other penalties.
The stickers are already available from the Queensland Government and consumer groups, but there is uncertainty over their legal force...............
.......... Whatever the outcome, all doubt will be removed by July 1 - the target date for states to implement the new National Energy Customer Framework which includes greater consumer protections.
Queensland Consumers' Association spokesman Ian Jarratt said the new legislation strengthened existing Queensland codes by stating clearly that marketers must obey the stickers.
Pressure is also growing for a national "Do Not Knock'' register similar to the existing "Do Not Call'' register which prevents unsolicited telephone marketing.
New research shows 85 per cent of people support the idea of such a national register.

this is a sugestion i have to all members of this board ,members from all over the world, to let the victorian government in australia know that the world is concerned about protecting the children of victoria ,and theirby setting a precedent for the rest of the world, who are interested in the outcome of the criminal charges against the religion of jehovah`s witnesses in refusing to abide by the legislation to get "working with children checks"when required to do so.correct me if i`m wrong but i think if all of us sent letters to the newspapers here in australia ,the different members of parliment here,we would demonstate that the victorian judicial system here is under scrutiny to do the right thing in the eyes of the world.. we all complain that the wtb&ts/jehovahs witnesses is a cult religion that sucks, destroying family relationships, here is a chance to do something about it.
whether you agree with steven unthank or not, here is an opportunity to stick up for the children of jehovah`s witnesses and every other child that a witness calls on in their door to door ministry.. what do you think ?.
smiddy.
Smiddy just some more on Kate Langbroek. Her parents are no longer JWs - here is a link to her father's story Langbroek Family .
Kate's brother John is a politician and was actually the Leader of the Opposition here in Qld.

here's the corny joke thread.
post your favorite corny joke thread.
that means no quality jokes!
Did you hear about the magician who walked down the road and turned into a driveway.
i had a dream last night that i went to a meeting.
the speaker announced we were going to sing the "we're jehovah's witnesses" song, to which i said an audible "dear god" which got a bunch of dirty looks from other people sitting by me.
so now i'm awake, sipping my coffee, and i have "we're jehovah's witnesses" stuck in my head.
After reading Jeff's thread, that stupid Let's Watch How we Walk song has been going through my head all weekend! I never liked that song when I was in and after this weekend I positively hate it.

i am a registered teacher in western australia and i have a working with children's card, as is mandatory for all who work with children in most australian states, i.e.
victoria, new south wales, queensland, and western australia.. the wwc is more strict than the national criminal history check which many employers in australia now insist on.
the wwc considers not just convictions for child-related crimes, but also allegations, acquittals and spent convictions (where one is found guilty but no penalty is imposed).
A few months ago I was employed as a Teacher Aide in a school in Queensland (Aust) and on my first day of employment I was required to apply for a Working With Children Card. I also had to do a course in Child Protection as my position requires that I have a certificate in Student Protection Training. As part of that course we learnt that any form of abuse such as mentioned by JesusisYHWH in the above post must be reported. It was emphasized many times that even if you just have a suspicion that a child has been abused in any form or is at risk of any abuse you must act on that suspicion.
With so many eyes and ears watching out for kids today it will be harder and harder for the WTS to cover up and hide abuse of JW children.

I read this article in our local newspaper (online) tonight and thought what the ombudsman said about Scientology's use of 'volunteer' workers was very interesting. I feel many of the statements made in the report could also apply to the WTS.
Here's the article. I have highlighted the parts I personally feel relate to the WTS.
THE industrial umpire has told the Church of Scientology to hire an external expert to review its work practices after an 18-month probe into whether church workers were paid properly.
The Fair Work Ombudsman investigation was sparked by an ABC Four Corners program in March 2010, which raised allegations about the mistreatment and exploitation of some of the church's most loyal members.
A number of allegations made by witnesses came outside the statutory time limit for consideration, so they could not be pursued, the ombudsman's final report released today said.
Other allegations fell outside the ombudsman's jurisdiction and needed to be referred to other authorities, the report said.
The ombudsman called on the church to conduct a comprehensive audit to ensure all parts of the organisation complied with the Fair Work Act and to redress any cases where workers had been been underpaid.
"It would be prudent for the Church of Scientology to proactively undertake this self-audit process at the earliest opportunity," the report said.
The church was directed to hire an external consultant to undertake an audit into whether its employees were underpaid and to rectify any shortfalls.
A draft report released by the ombudsman earlier this week found some workers were paid as little as $10 a week by the church, despite it earning more than $17 million in 2009.
It also found the church had incorrectly classified as volunteers or voluntary workers, people who were entitled to be classified as employees.
The church described the payments as "a small amount to enable (workers) to perform their duties by covering the cost of travel, babysitters, food and other expenses ... not a reward for services rendered", but the ombudsman's investigation found otherwise.
"However, the investigation found several features of the arrangements within the (Church of Scientology) were not consistent with volunteer or voluntary work," the ombudsman said in a statement.
"In particular, witness evidence indicates that significant hours of work were imposed on workers."
Further evidence indicated a significant level of control and direction was applied to workers by more senior church members who held positions of authority, he added.
The investigation found the Church of Scientology was "a bureaucratised organisation"which "appeared to have imported practices and procedures into Australia with little thought to workplace relations laws".
However, the church said it had been vindicated by the report.
"Staff of Scientology churches signed agreements to work as volunteers and are doing so freely, wishing to help their church and the wider community," its Australian president Vicki Dunstan said.
Asked if the church intended to hire an external consultant to review its workplace practices, a spokesman referred AAP to the ombudsman's full report.
In the report, the ombudsman said workers for religious or other organisations who believed they were subjected to intimidation or other illegal pressure to provide their labour should contact police.

last week i attended my father's funeral in hobart.
i was the first time i have been in a kingdom hall in several years, and many years since i had attended the hall of my childhood, but felt like it was just yesterday.
the funeral talk was quite a departure from normal, so worth writing about.
Paul I'm very sorry to hear of your father's passing but glad that you were able to find some comfort in the funeral service.
It is truly awful that instead of being able to go through the normal rituals and grieving processes that come with the death of a loved one, exjw's have to go through all this disgusting shunning, awkwardness, feeling left out etc on top of the terrible grief they are dealing with. It is so very wrong.
I remember when my mom died of cancer 6 1/2 years ago I was left out of much of the planning for the funeral service (and I was still a JW at the time but becoming inactive). It really hurt me, and the funeral service itself, while attended by over 400 JWs, was to me so impersonal about my mum. Just the usual JW service with a few minutes talk about mum and using her beliefs as a sales talk to the audience. I felt like shouting out "this service is supposed to be about my mum". That funeral service really sped up my desire to get out of that horrible cult.
My sincere condolences on your loss Paul and I hope you find comfort in the lovely memories you have of your dad.
Best wishes

here's one of mine .... .
he is dead.
stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,.
These are two of my favourites:
WHEN YOU ARE OLD
by William Butler Yeats
When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim Soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face
And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.
