The Civil Defense has just announced there has been 17 fatalities so far. What a tragedy. So sad these people at work doing their jobs when it struck.

i guess the witnesses are rejoicing over the death and destruction of the latest earthquake in n.z.as proof of the imminent coming of armageddon, and their deliverance into the "new world system of things" i can just see it now ,the kh`s in nz will be filled to overflowing in the next month,......then in six months later it will be back to the status quo.. p.s when jesus said their would be" earthquakes in one place after another" couldn`t he have identified these areas for the faithfull ?
so at least beleivers would have been spared the trauma ?
of course non beleivers would have suffered the consequences, but why should beleivers suffer also ?.

Hope all our New Zealand posters are ok - some of those office buildings are completely destroyed.
Watching live footage of it now - what a mess.

brisbane, australia.
temp: 32c = 89.6f with very high humidity.. moving from an airconditioned room to the outside is like crashing into a solid wall, ok ok not as bad as that.. had to get changed 3 times due to the perspiration.. tonite 7:05pm electrical storms now arrived, powers gone out & i've only got a led torch & my laptop (only 4 hours left on battery) for entertainment.
so glad i cooked dinner early tonight as i normally cook abit later in the evening.. hows the weather at your place?.
Like yours. What a stinker of a day. So hot and humid. Felt heat stroked most of the day. Couldn't stand it anymore at 2pm and went in to one of our airconditioned rooms and cooled off for a while. Then we had some quite ferocious storms late this afternoon. Thankfully when the power went out it came back on again straight away. At least it's much cooler now.

ps - I don't think we live too far from your area fsp
i'm sure i'm the very last person to notice the day shift / night shift groups of posters but i kinda think it's funny when i pop in on an evening and discover posters i've never seen, but who have 10,000 posts.. that's all.
carry on.
situation "normal".. edit: hi, night crew, i'm on the day crew, btw..
Mmmm Pavlova. Used to make a lot of them in my JW days - cong bbq's, supper nights, family get togethers etc. Topped with lashings of cream, strawberries, kiwi fruit and passionfruit. Dessert heaven.
Haven't made one in a while. Our social life went to almost zero after we faded and are now being shunned by family as well. Have to come up with an excuse to make one I think.

born a dub.
never dated while in because i "wasn't ready for marriage", haven't dated since fade because i really don't want to burden my girlfriend with the bull@#% of dating me while i still have to put up a facade of being "just inactive" to my family so they won't shun me.. this sucks.
i want to be happy.
Hi Searching. My husband and I left the org together so I haven't been through an exact situation like yours. But I have lost my family because we faded and my now 20 year old son has also lost the company of all his JW cousins and friends. (We've been shunned for over two years now) I have asked my son a few times if he would rather that we stayed JWs so he could see his family and he says no way, he's so glad we left. And while it has been painful for me to lose my sister, brother and father, I feel that it was their choice to cut me off and their loss. I would never ever think of going back to being a JW just to have that kind of conditional love shown to me.
So Searching the only advice I can offer you is this. With each year that passes you realise just how short this life really is. You also begin to realise that you can't be really happy by living your life a certain way just to keep others happy. It's your life and you deserve the freedom to make your own choices as to how you want to live it. And if others (especially those who are supposed to love and support you the most) would rather show loyalty to a religious cult/organisation than their own flesh and blood then it is their choice and their loss.
Wishing you all the best in this difficult situation

.
or is tofu your bag?.
coco ambivalent.
If the meat is succulent and tender roast leg of lamb and the potatoes are perfectly roasted - soft on the inside and crispy crunchy on the outside, along with roast pumpkin, roast sweet potato and minted peas all served with a delicious rich gravy sweetend just a little with redcurrant jelly. Just had this last Sunday. Very typical Australian roast dinner.
Now I'm off to make dinner and alas it's not roast lamb tonight.

i would assume that some or a good number of us here as normal humans in this society - consider " lawless " actions to include murder , robbery, extortion, rape, child abuse, war , terrorism, etc.
the wt society has their own definition of what's considered " lawless ".
anything that's considered a disfellowshipping offense in the jehovah's witnesses is now considered " lawless ".
No doubt my (elder) father will feel very vindicated when he attends this study. Two years ago when he told me he was cutting me out of his life because I no longer wanted to be a JW he called me satanic and demonised.
This kind of evil crap in the WT will make those self righteous JWs who shun their own family feel even more justified in their actions.
How absolutely crazy and very sad.

i just heard the sad news that a very loving and kind elder for the congregation that i belonged to for 15 years just died from a heart attack.
he was someone that i had great admiration and deep respect for, even now that i'm out from the jws.
he was my mentor and an inspiration to me as an elder, and in many ways he showed me the contradictions of the wts, he was a breath of fresh air within a cult.
Tasting this is a tough decision that only you and your wife can really make.
If you do decide to go I like the idea that others have put forth about taking a 'worldly' friend or workmate.
However while attending may seem the right thing to do it could also turn into a negative and sad experience for you both.
Some other ways around this could be to send his wife a lovely card with a personal note of sympathy, expressing your gratitude for the friendship her husband showed you and your family and how much you miss his company and what a good, kind person he was. And maybe send some lovely flowers to her home.
And then maybe you and your family could hold your own little 'memorial' service for him in your home or at a nice place. Maybe light a candle, play some of his favourite music, look through some photos and express your gratitude for having known him and acknowledge your sorrow at his passing. Just my thoughts on handling this difficult situation.
Thinking of you and your family at this sad time for you

i see people saying this online.
my parents made us tell people tha we got gifts throughout the year and that we probably got more presents than kids get on birthdays and christmas.
however, it was a complete lie.
Yep that was the standard line us kids had to say when asked about xmas. How I used to dread being asked by other kids what I got for christmas - I usually resorted to inventing something just to not feel so embarrassed. My parents turned their wedding anniversary into our 'present day' and while it was nice it's not the same.
I still clearly remember the last christmas we had when I was a 5 year old child. My parents were studying with the jws and told us this would be our last christmas. As time went on even though I 'knew' all about christmas being pagan and part of false religion, deep inside as a child it felt shameful being on the outer at xmas time.
As an adult though the brainwashing was more ingrained and the self righteousness of the jw cult took over and it felt 'right' not being part of christmas. For a while anyway. Then after I had my own child, somewhere deep inside me this longing to take part in the rituals and traditions of christmas started surfacing and never went away.
Now we have been out for nearly 5 years and this is the first real christmas my husband and I and son are doing. We have put up our first xmas tree and under it are presents for my son. The only thing is he is now 20 but I figure it's still not too late to do christmas for our child.
Happy xmas from Australia
