  allright my first post messed up and i lost it some kind of way.

  haven't posted on here in along time, obviously don't know how to anymore.. trying again.. so i was raised a jw, da for over a decade, of course estranged from parents and jw family, have a teenage son from a previous relationship.. anyways, i wanted to see what someone who had no first hand knowledge of the jws would think.

  so i showed my non-jw girlfriend the obey jehovah (go sparlock!

  It's funny how so many people think its a spoof when they see the video. I basically showed it to my girlfriend to see what she thought, because I know that even after years away from the JWs my views on things can be a little different from people not affected by them. I was totally not expecting the reaction I got. Sounds like you got some similar reactions, I hope the JWs start distributing the videos to the public, they may get a different reaction than they would think also.

  Thanks for sharing the reaction that your wife had to the cartoon. Its interesting how different people view it. Probably is related to upbringing and cultural views unrelated to being a JW or not also. I should have mentioned that, although I have been with my girlfriend for years, we live in a different state from my JW parents. So she has never met them in person. She might have had a different reaction if they had a chance to lovebomb her and try to indoctrinate her prior to this.

  Trying again.

  So I was raised a JW, DA for over a decade, of course estranged from parents and JW family, have a teenage son from a previous relationship.

  Anyways, I wanted to see what someone who had no first hand knowledge of the JWs would think. So I showed my non-JW girlfriend the Obey Jehovah (Go Sparlock!) video.

  She watched it,, then I asked what she thought about it. She said she did not think the JWs made this video. I asked her to elaborate, and she said that it was obviously made by someone trying to make the JWs look bad, because getting all worked up over a plastic toy is ridiculous, and the video must have been made to make the religion look ridiculous.

  I tried for like 5 minutes to convince her that the video was real. And she continued to refuse to believe that I knew what I was talking about. For proof I showed her the member of the Governing Body's introduction to the cartoon series. She watched that and when it went off - She just stared at the screen for a moment after it was over and then said in a deadpan voice:

  "Our children will never be left alone with your parents."

  I had to try so hard not to burst out laughing, because I knew she was very very serious.

  Just thought I would share!

  I went to an amway meeting many years ago back when I was JW. They are just like the JW's in recruitment and indoctrination methods. Or the JW's are just like them, take your pick.

  I agree on one level that there are other religions that are just as controlling and manipulative as the JW's. However, as an ex-jw, I will say that my radar works pretty well on detecting them and just wouldn't join them.
  
  Most charitable organizations have board members and employees that are earning a living or better off of the charity, so every person should investigate before they give their money to someone else. In other words, some charities are using a greater percentage of their contiributions for true charity than others. So as an ex-JW I use my own judgment in who I contribute to. And would never make a blanket statement that other religions are better just because they "give to charity"
  
  On the other hand I think its a shame that the JW organization doesn't even make a real attempt to make this world a better place through charitable works.

  anyway, they went on and on nonstop about how we should all be grateful and how we are a bunch of spoiled brats and how it personally offends god if we are not grateful.

  i couldn't help but chuckle.

  It has been very enlightening to me, a person raised as a JW, to get out listen to other religions , and realize that JW's are not the only ones with the crazies.

  Santa Claus

  i was thinking about if i should start telling my 2 year old about santa claus.

  after realizing that i've been lied to my whole life from all the jw bullcrap should i lie to my child about santa claus?

  do you think its ok to say, "be good or santa wont bring you any toys this christmas.

  I personally didn't go the Santa Claus route with my son. Because I think my JW parents would use it against me, like "see your dad tells you things that aren't true, and we have the 'real truth'." So if your child still has dealings with JW relatives I would advise against it. Otherwise, it would be great fun for your child to believe in Santa Claus for a while. Wish I had gotten a chance to be a real child myself.
