Yes I did. I rationalized the "day or the hour" scripture not with the "year or the month" response but with the counterargument that Jesus was speaking in the present tense and his statement did not necessarily apply in the future when the "signs" would be obvious.

i know there was a thread started not that long ago about what book you are reading but i really wanted to start a thread about this particular book and it's subject.. i am about 2/3 the way through a book i got for my birthday called world war z by max brooks.
apparently it is going to be film sometime soon.. anyway the book is about a world crisis....zombies....please don't give up on this thread yet........the book is written as fact like a history book where a man is collating evidence for future generations so as to prevent another such crisis but is told to leave out all the humanity.....this results in the man writing his own book called "world war z" as he feels that future generations can only really learn from the humanity side of things as they will be able to relate to experiences rather than just facts.. throughout the book the man interviews survivor after survivor who relates their own experience and how it influenced or was influenced by the crisis.
now the man who actually wrote this book ...max brooks also wrote another book called "the zombie survival guide" and apparently it is a book which is encouraged reading for people in positions where they may be faced with any kind of crisis like this......effecting a large number of people, etc.. .

Rosey, I developed a fascination with doomsday movies before, during and after my being in the Witnesses. The first one I saw was Omega Man, starring Charleston Heston. I saw it as an impressionable child. After watching that movie I told myself that I wanted to survive "the end". That plus a later curiosity I developed for the Bible eventually led to my becoming a Witness.
Right now I have a small collection of doomsday books. Among Madmen by Jim Starling and Daina Graziunas is the best "Zombie" book I've ever read.
Another good one- though not a zombie theme-is Greybeard by Brian Aldiss which is a story of what happens when there are no more children being born.

i've decided that i'm going to write about my life as a jw and how i broke free of the organisation.
i've approached a magazine with regards to doing a monthly story on my walk to freedom.
this is in no way meant as payback, but rather as a means to educate people about this faith and what it does to those trapped in.. i may be calling on some of you (if you don't mind) for clarification on doctrine as i have become a bit fuzzy as to what is what.

pretty interesting read so far, though i'm only about 90 pages into it.
it's about a man who is arrested, but no one will tell him what he's been charged with, or give him any information at all.
I am reading Wednesday is Indigo Blue, a book about synesthesia. Synesthesia describes a neurological condition where two or more senses are connected. A person with synesthesia might see colors when s/he reads black print and or when they hear sounds. They tend to have fantastic memories and higher IQs than the rest of us less colorful folks.
hubby says this site is making me obsessed, in a way that's making me angrier and angrier about jw's.
it's been almost every single day that i read a thread that seriously gets under my skin or makes me sick about them.
he's right, there's a lot on here that will only fuel my fire and help me to go into an angry spiral instead of bettering my life and forgetting about all the stuff i hate about the witnesses.
After thirty years of being out of The Lie.....well yes, it makes me angrier.

these are couples that i know personally.. a brother i know married a sister 36 years older than him.
he was 35, she was 71. they are still married 5 years later.
they do not get along, and they make that known to the entire hall.. a brother that has been married twice and is 50 years old recently married a 19-year old.
Not to move off topic but I suspect that some of these bizarre marriages are motivated by a lack of suitable male mates. I know that sisters outnumber brothers but does anyone know the ratio of sisters to brothers in the congregations?

I asked a member of the anointed that very question in the late 1970s and he said he had no idea.
