I strongly disagree that Michael Jackson would have been better of in the JWs in exchange for his drug problem. That's like saying that it's better to be a Nazi than an alcoholic. Which is worse, the admitedly demoralizing problems of drug addiction or being clean and a member of a psychopathic and genocidal religion?

to provide a little background of myself i was not raised as a witness but started studying when i was 19 and got baptized at age 21. a few months after i was baptized i left due to the constant worship of the faithful and discreet slave and the lack of emphasis on christ.
for reasons i'm not sure about yet i decided to attend the district convention last week.
By the way, I forgot to mention, read up all you can on the JWs. I highly recommend books like Crisis of Conscience by Ray Franz as well as his other book In Search of Christian Freedom. Also The Gentile Times Reconsidered by Carl Jonsson and Apocalypse Delayed by James Penton. These books will help convince you to stay out for the sake of your conscience and spirituality.

Blue Grass: The organization still worships itself more than ever. If you are still Christian you can try other churches and maybe find a keeper as far as women are concerned. I definitely would not suggest returning to the JWs. You sound like you miss them but realize that even though they may have made a good first impression on you that they are nonetheless false and evil-spiritual Nazis.
I left for the same reason you did, that pathological self worship of theirs. Follow your initial gut instinct, stay out!

Will the real Ten Commandments please stand up?
We begin with Exodus 20:1-17 then, later on they get broken. Afterwards they get recopied in Exodus 34:1-27. Even though the second set is clearly stated to be like the first set in verse 1 it is obvious that they are not. It seems like we have competing priesthoods or something rewriting the commandments for their own agenda.
last year, i listened to a talk on cd from a member of the governing body, brother losch.
he says the dead bodies will be all over the place and we will have to bury them.
it has been mentioned on this forum many times.. so i knew that my family had not heard the talk, or else they would definitely have talked about it.
I was at the home of a JW couple who owned a copy of The Finished Mystery book and were proudly showing it off. As soon as I held it in my hands my curiosity caused me to open the book and actually read the page it was open to. As soon as I did that they both started yelling and waving their arms saying: "No!, no! It's different!". So I gave the book back after barely glimpsing something about locomotives.
I couldn't get over the fact that they were proud to show the outside of that book but terrified to show the inside.

last week was finals week at the college.
as i was studying for one of my tests i noticed this one guy (early 20s, muscular, four day beard, average college student looking) getting on the elevator next to where i was sitting.
then i noticed he had a rather unusual tattoo.
It seems to go against the spirit of Leviticus 19:28 (NIV) which says: "Do not . . . put tattoo marks upon yourself. I am the LORD (Yahweh)."

there have been 3 rumors i read about him recently.
one states that close to his death he was trying to be re-instated, but the society refused him.
Kenneson, I heard, about thirty years ago directly from Edmund Gruss (author of Apostles of Denial and We left Jehovah's Witnesses) that William Schnell died at a convalescent hospital. He showed me documentation of the fact since he stated that the Witnesses were falsely claiming that he died at a mental institution.
