hi i was wondering, what was it like living during the 1973 oil embargo?i need some links to some websites for a paper that i am doing.some experiences during the embargo are welcome.please do tell thanks.
I wasn't driving at the time but I remember the odd/even car's license plate arrangement also.
The only thing that stood out in my mind-and I don't remember if it was actually in 1973 or years after-was seeing a cartoon with an American Marine pointing a rifle at a prostate Arab and yelling, "How much does the oil cost now!"

like most people reading this, i was convinced that by 2014 the new system would 'definitely' have been operating for at least a decade.
now that i know this is not going to be the case i am going to have to think of some way to recognise 100 years of wts let downs and failed predictions.
there is no point fretting over the past so i think it will be a good time to celebrate.

I've forgotten the details, but I believe that it's the end of the ancient Hebrew calendar by JW reckoning.
However, a Jewish source says:
"Although the Jewish New Year is on the first of the Jewish month Tishrei (around September), the Torah refers to the Jewish months as beginning from Nissan (around March), the month in which the Jewish people left Egypt. So here they are beginning from Nissan..."

I haven't read this thread so if I'm repeating something someone else mentioned, sorry.
First, brotherdan, the burden of proof is on someone making the statement. Certain absurd things, like the existence of fairies, cannot be disproven. The Biblical account of a global flood can be disproven but it requires a broad knowledge of Geology. So if a Creationist claims that there was such a flood, he should set forth the claims of evidence and then it can be either verified or nullified.
An excellent book to read on the subject of Creationism from a scientific point of view is the book Science and Earth History: The Evolution/Creation Controversy.
This book has over 500 oversize, small print pages dealing with every aspect of the subject including Noah's Flood.
As far as men's "theories" changing, correction is a necessary part of all scientific endeavor. First the basics and then the details have to be ironed out as new facts come to light. The basics of Evolution haven't changed since Darwin, with the exception of his Gradualism versus Stephen Gould's Punctuated Equilibria.
If the basic teachings were never to change, all scientific progress would come to a permanent halt. Keep in mind that it is the so called changing theories of man that have allowed for all the technological gadgets we have. The Bible, on the other hand, is not supposed to change (At least in the past 1800 years.) but that does not make it true.

this is, i believe, is the 4th year in a row, that the witnesses had the highest growth rate.
roman catholics grew by less than 1%, as did most of the other churches listed.

The more miserable people are, the more they are attracted to apocalyptic religions like the Jehovah's Witnesses.
Based on that, I expect that their numbers will start increasing in the United States a decade or so from now due to impoverished socioeconomic conditions that I foresee.
The only thing that could counteract their growth would be what I call the saturation effect. For every active member there must be several inactive ones. If they were to increase in numbers, say to 10% of the US population, there could easily be an astonishing 30%+ percentage of the population who were former Witnesses. A sizeable portion of them would be disfellowshipped.
I live in a large apartment complex, of over 100 units, where about 80%+ are or were at one time JWs. I calculate that about 15% are disfellowshipped, the result of the average tenancy here being about 25 years. Quite a few of those are never going back. At a !% disfellowshipping rate per year, even taking into account those who return, you can figure out how many non returning JWs will accumulate in a lifetime.
Those ex-JWs who accumulate in the general population would provide a counter weight against further JW growth.
